Gods of Evil

Some might argue that evil itself was not intended to be part of the creative order. Although mortals were intended to work, toil, grow and mature over time – murder, terror, hatred, suffering, pestilence, plague and the destruction of creation was not part of The Vision. Those of darkness are thus viewed as fallen gods who have stepped out of the light of The Source and instead grow in strength by feeding like vampires off of negative energy as it is created in the world. They draw their strength from decay and wickedness. The deities of darkness seek domination within their own pantheon and over the entire Created Order. Ethical concerns are non-existent although some orders, particularly lawful ones, still stand somewhat against the consuming powers of The Void and have a semblance of ethics and honor where they can be used as tools to further their own needs. Maugrim Bauglier embodies this corruption in that he was born of the left hand of The Source, before the count of days, and intended to rule co-eval with Daeus over all creation, and safeguard it from the hungering maw of the Void. This was not enough for the Tyrant of Gods and instead he ultimately sought to claim Daeus' birthright for his own, triggering a civil war that colors world history to this day. Maugrim is considered the de-facto benefactor and patron of the God's of Darkness and such a role is both written into the Loom of Creation and into the Books of Ea, but in recent eras his wife, Taara, has risen to great prominence and power and Maugrim has waned. In a bid to circumvent the non manifestation pact - an agreement following the War of the Gods that the gods would not manifest their presence in full upon Gaea again and rule from forms of flesh, Taara ushered in a new era of chaos that saw her dominance and influence in the world rise higher then any of her peers. Taking for herself the title of Dark Goddess, Taara sought to usurp the Five Fold Dragon but the Loom would not recognize her claim and though weakened Maugrim remains the acknowledged patriarch of his squabbling household. Nonetheless her efforts resulted in the death of gods, ascension of others and re-ordering of much of what people had considered the status quo. And so she remains, to many, the current principle threat to peace and civility whilst the other gods of darkness consolidate their power and seek to either ally with her or betray her.
