Wild? At first glance one might think so. The blond hair that cascades well past her shoulders is a mix of free-flowing locks and tightly braided strands. Every so often a strand will dangle rebelliously in front of her icy-blue eyes; eyes whose glance seem to hold within them the soul of the hunter and the hunted. A visage one could consider quite attractive, if they were willing to overlook the scar that runs down from her forehead and continues on the cheek below her left eye.
Standing around five-foot nine inches, the young woman possess a physique one could easily discern as athletic and well-muscled. The mix of leather and furs that she wears is only broken up by a chain shirt she wears for protection. On her hip is a finely crafted hand axe, while upon her back rests an exquisitely crafted battleaxe that once belonged to her father.
Background Summary
Kadlin Björnsdóttir, born to Bjorn Gullskjeeg(God Beard) and his wife Astrid; who would sadly pass in childbirth. Her father was the Captain of the Jarlsguard in their local lands, resulting in her grandmother seeing to much of her early care. Early on, she showed athleticism and prowess in the martial arts; something Bjorn made sure he fostered.
As she grew older, Kadlin found herself entering many Stormgarde tournaments hosted by the king, representing her Jarl’s lands. It was her success in these tournaments and the reputation she had earned that her Jarl offered the daughter of the captain of his Jarlsguard the position of personal guard to his daughter of eleven years; Gyda. While her Jarl and family were traveling to Stormgarde for a meeting with their King, they were ambushed by a large group of brigands along a forest road. When the arrows stopped raining down, the Jarlsguard were swarmed, and a battle ensued. Gyda panicked and fled her carriage, running for the edge of the forest. Kadlin pursued and struck down the brigand before he could strike down the young girl.
Kadlin was torn, stay and fight or do what she had sworn to do; protect Gyda. She scooped up the Jarl’s daughter and ran into the forest. After some time, she scouted her way back, no longer hearing the screams and cries of battle. The Jarl and his family were safe, but her father lay slain.
Bjorn was given a lavish funeral and Kadlin was offered a full position in the Jarlsguard. It would be a position she would respectfully decline. However, the Jarl made sure she knew the position was always there for her should she change her mind, and should she need anything, ever, he would be there for her.
She needed to get away from all the memories of what she had lost. The guilt was strong. If she had stayed to fight would her father still be alive? Would Gyda have survived if she had? She sold the modest farm, the only home she had ever known and set forth with her fahter’s battleaxe. Where was she going? She had no idea. Yet, she would eventually find herself in Alexandria with no plan and a lot of guilt.
Personality/Quirks
- Reckless: Kadlin is often reckless. Some say she even has a Deathwish. When you have lost everything you ever loved, you do not always care what happens to you. This has made her very dangerous.
- Tough Exterior/Soft Inside: Kadlin puts out a very tough outer shell. She can come across as reserved or even brash. However, those that take the time to get to know her, find her to be a deeply caring individual masking her pain.
- Modest: Kadlin has never liked to be the center of praise or attention. The foot shuffling and forced eye contact when she won a tournament did not go unnoticed. For someone as adept in battle as she is, she certainly does not seek the glory.
- Distrust in Magic: Kadlin has never really liked magic or understood it. It is unnatural to her. Blades swing and blood spills. That's it.
- Battle Songs: Call it intimidation. Call it Crazy. When Kadlin charges into battle she is often singing Aesir battle songs as her battleaxe swings.
"Pray to your God while you head is still attached to your shoulders." ~Kadlin Björnsdóttir
