Erdik, Onna, Grapevine (CR 7)
This is a CR 7 encounter that can be the source of an adventure by itself, or a random encounter for a
group traveling in forest terrain.
Story
Erdik and Onna are a pair of Ogre Siblings (and Lovers, ugh, but that's neither here nor there) that are a little bit more capable than most. Onna is the brains of the two and after losing a rather sweet gig as leaders of a pack of goblin and Yrch bandits in Bludgun, they stumbled across an assassin vine that attacked the both of them. Rather than hack it up entirely, Onna got the plan to subcontract the thing. Banditry kept them in spare bodies that they couldn't eat entirely before they rot, so they started throwing the remains to the vine, which grew large and strong. Now they don't even have to do much anymore. Let any traveler that is foolish enough to take their shortcut down the old logging road get strangled to death by the vine and then harvest the body of it's valueables and the nicest cuts of meat (with Erdik's guisarme) and throw the scraps back. Or if it's someone capable or a large group, they take on those that the vine doesn't grab.
Tactics
Erdik and Onna camp within earshot of the vine, which runs across a several hundred year old oak whose outer branches hang across an old logging road. Within 3 rounds of any combat with the vine that has any real noise involved, Erdik and Onna will creep up to within 70 feet with Erdik hiding behind a large boulder and Onna being rather stealthy for an ogre. Perception checks are called for, but remember the +1 per 10 feet of distance to the DC (+7) and a +5 for distraction (the existing combat).
Assuming the group isn't entirely overwhelmed by the vine, the pair will charge from their positions with Erdik taking on the biggest, toughest of the group, possibly using a trip attack with his guisarme, kicking in Barbarian Rage. Onna will go for the smallest or the most unaware (So she can utilize sneak attack).
After that, it should be a fairly standard fight, though feel free to have Erdik try Bull Rushing lighter opponents into the grasp of the vine, and if one of the ogres should fall, the other could/should freak out and immediately go after the person that struck the killing blow.
