After the confrontation with Liatris' group ended, through bizarre crossed streams of accusation and upheavel, with the group of adventurers and the bard's circle of friends on a sort of odd truce, while the robed man's perfidy was exposed and he was rendered unconscious in retaliation for his attempts to cast.

The potato-centric fellow and the swashbuckler were elected to drag him out of the inn and watch him drool while the otehrs continues to press the bard for information, which ultimately prompted the adventurers to take Veriford, the hunchback with them back to Mornhaven to try and find Maeble, the Vornhearst family's senior maid on the chance that she may know where any secret texts involving the fate of her late mistress could be found. After some rain, then group crests a hill and sees the small palisade of Mornhaven a little further up the road.....

Irshya, hanging out on Sabina's shoulder, across from the peakcock, has a wee lizard that she is curiously inspecting. She keeps him shaded from the sun, and has offered him water a few times so that he stays well hydrated. The Gobbo understands all about that. "Irshya wonders what lizard's name is?", she asks of Veriford. "It is familiar?"

"Of course it would be rain," Lysos mutters, slumped within her saddle with her cloak (which she only had to chase once when it became unfastened) wrapped up about her. "Always the rain. Oh hey! There's the town. Do you think they'll be happy to see us?"

Bina pats Irshya's leg and smiles. "Yes, it is. Be kind to it, ok?" She then looks over to Veriford their 'prisoner'. "Pay attention, Veriford. You just may learn some eye opening things. Things that prove how small a fish in a large pond you are. How small we all are." She then chuckles at Lysos. "Likely not? We likely serve as reminder to a dark time. But I hope I'm wrong."

Once the party slows a bit, Burai stretches his back. Rather than riding a horse he walked, and he found the trip a bit taxing. He squints at the pallisade. "Did you cause any damage while you were there?" Having gone on his share of adventurers, he has found that makes the difference in such towns. Murdering villainous townspeople and monsters...acceptable. Damaging property...not so much.

Lokir rides along cheerily, a potato speared on an arrow peaking out of his quiver--creating the appearance of resting over his shoulder. "Certainly. For we bring song, coin, and...spuds." His mule clomps aling and winnies in agreement.

Mourner Ashlee enjoyed the journey and the rain. She's currently appreciating the dampness leaving her clothes, and watching the steam rise off her horse. Occasionally, she turns to stare at Veriford before shifting to face forward again. Conversationally, she hasn't had anything to talk about, so she's been silent.

Sabina says, "Damage? No. In fact we took no live other then the unlife of the vampire. And little damage done to one house."

"Well, Bannon did stomp his dirty boots all over her table, too," Lysos reminds, the sight of the approaching town seeming to restore some of her energy. Well, some of her posture at least. She straightens and rolls her shoulders. "Or maybe they just won't remember us." She looks over at Ashlee. Considers. Then grins. "Nah. They'll remember us. Let's go with the spud plan, then."

Mornhaven's wall is old, and peopled with somewhat new looking guards, while the scent of cooking wafts from the village, as the group draws inetivably, inexorably closer, ever closer. The guards, neither able to be comfortably described as twenty years old, consider the group on their approach, some light of recognition in their eyes as they note several have been here recently to deal with... the Trouble.

One, with three less pimples, turns to his partner and nods, and they open the gates before the travelers are greeting with, "Welcome to Mornhaven, it's about dinner time, so, if you need a roof and good food, the Bed'n'Bacons will be glad fer the business!"

Veriford, for his part, tries very hard not to be noticed eyeing the group, though he does less of that as they near the guards. He sits the saddle like a good boy, leaving it's guidance to his chaperone while Carbuncle, the lizard endures the handling, but aside from seeming fairly on the ball for a lizard, it doesn't do anything more than poke it's tongue out, or hiss if something makes it uncomfortable.

The Gobbo's ears perk up under her hood. "Bacon?", she says, and her stomach growls as if on cue. Aside from a few questions, she's been quiet, entertained by inspecting the lizard curiously, and keeping him comfortable. He seemed to appreciate the shade. Irshya looks to Sabina. "Bina, can we get bacon?", she wonders of the woman whose shoulder she is seated upon. "Irshya would treat you to dinner and drink. Irshya is thankful for being carried."

Bina grins at the gobbo once more. "I'm.. not sure I want bacon, Irshya. Some of the hogs here were fed sentient beings." She says softly. To the guards she lifts a hand and waves as they near. "Thank you. Could you two tell me if there's been any strangeness from the last time we were here til now? Oh! And we were hoping to check in on Maeble and see how she and the others were doing."

Ash takes turns staring at each of the guards, comparing what she remembers about them with what she currently sees. She nods once, when the Bed'n'Bacons is named. Hopefully it will have a new batch in, and perhaps orange juice! She gives Veriford another long stare, followed by watching Irshya play with Carbuncle, then clicking the reins for her horse.

Burai studies the town as they approach. He runs his eyes over the guards and listens. Soon his expression grows flat. "Where is the house of Liatris' family?" he asks those of the party that have been here before. He keeps his voice slightly lowered. After a moment he adds, "Time for bacon and beds later."

Lysos's complexion pales a little bit at the reminder of the bacon. Which is saying something, for anyone who is aware of some of the things she /has/ eaten over the past couple of months. She does attempt to put on a brave face, though. "The bacon should be alright now, right?" No matter how hard she tries, however.. she fails to convince anyone that she'd be willing to put that to the test. Too soon, as they say.

Lokir 's eyes light up at the mention of a tavern, and does his best to mask his disappointment at the postponement of alcohol and an audience. Lokir nods to the guards. "Anything else we peaceful travels should note, good sirs? News or gossip of note?"

The guards shake their heads emphatically at the observation about their livestock, "Oh, no, all of those hogs were destroyed, ma'am." the pimplier one affirms.

The clearer one nods, "Edmund insisted, once the truth came out." Clearly not a comfortable topic for either of them, but, "Miss Maeble's been helping manage the farm after.... after...." Ahem. After, "The Trouble."

Mention of Liatris prompts the Pimple to spit to the side, and grumbling of an acerbic nature. The man with the potato sticking out of his quiver gets the other one's attention, "Well, we hear tell that the big plague's been going away, but not a lot else."

The Gobbo tsks and peers at Sabina. "That not make you a cannibal any more than being a vegetarian because the cow ate grass before you had it as a steak. Animal much like us, food go in, and stuff comes out." She crosses her arms and huffs at Burai. "Irshya no work well on empty stomach.", she complains. She looks to Sabina again, and her stomach growls once more.

"The Vornhearst Estate is on a hill, outside of town," Ash answers Burai, gazing at him while she does. Her horse slows to a stop while the party decides where they will be going.

Burai gives Irshya a sideways glance. But his eyebrows have been raised ever since the guard mentioned Maeble. Subtle. "Where is the farm..?" he asks the guard. He does his best to be polite and conversational. But his voice actually comes out rumbly and a bit stern.

Walking alongside the party, as their prisoner has taken his horse, Bannon tilts his head so he can look up towards Lysos from under the brim of his hat with a grin, "In fairness, we did so well because I had the high ground." He then frowns finally, shaking his head, "I'm not having any of the bacon." He splits his attention between the interaction of Burai and the guard, and their prisoner, the former with far keener interest than the later.

Lokir nods in support of Burai's question. "Aye. We are, of course, new to Mornhaven. Perhaps I was here many years ago...but time changes so many things." Lokir's potato bobs in agreement as he speaks--likely from a mere jostling of his quiver.

Lysos shakes her head as if to dispel the distractions of the horrible ham. "Maeble. We need to talk to Maeble," she offers in support of Sabina's 'list' given to the guards. "We're.. ah.. just following up on The Trouble. Wanted to see how all of you are doing, you know? How you're holding up? Such an awful time."

Bina doesn't respond to Irshya just yet, focusing in on the young guards. "That's good to know, about the pigs. And I think we'll head up to see Maeble then. What about the herdmen and farm hands up at the house. What happened to all of them? I'm sorry. I'm just hopeful that everyone is doing well." She gives the others a glance and Irshya a pat.

Bannon looks towards Lysos, tilting his head and nodding with sympathy on his face, "They really were awful." He then looks towards the guards, seeming to eagerly await confirmation that all is well or otherwise.

The guards don't seem to recognize the potato guy, eyeing him with a sort of uncertain curiosity, but aren't quite sure what to make of him, or if it's even polite to stare. The explaination of Bannon's success brings them bck to the now in time to nods, pointing off to the side as Ashes states the bearing to the estate, "LIke the lady says, just up the hill a ways." Lysos's query, something about it give the guards pauses and they sort of look between each other for a moment when Sabina's question comes through. The pimplier one nods, "Three of the hands were judged as knowin' accomplices for that witch, an' they got stretched. Shoulda hung Liatris, too."

It seems like a decision has been reached, or is on the verge of arrival. Ashlee clicks at her horse and takes up the reins, leaning forward. At the same time making a small tug on the reins tied to her saddle. Her horse starts moving and she guides it towards the estate. When the fate of the farmhands, and the suggested fate for Liatris are mentionned, Ash makes a point of giving Veriford another one of her long, silent stares.

The Gobbo huffs and crosses her arms, looking away, and then petting at the familiar gently. "They don't want bacon.", she says softly to Carbuncle. "What kind of person doesn't want bacon?" She looks to the others, and then Sabina. "Oh. Maybe miss Maeble has bacon?"

Lokir nods to the Gobbo. "Indeed. If i were only to live another sixty years, I would prioritize a warm fire and cold ale over many things..." The potato on the arrow seems to shake from a sudden breeze. "...but there is honor in duty and work, of course." At the news of the executions, Bannon's lips thin and he looks away for a moment, his face inscrutible. He then looks towards Ashlee and nods his head, setting off at a walk in the general direction indicated.

Bina laughs softly at Irshya and shrugs..as she can with her shoulders taken up. "Perhaps. We shall see, won't we?" She catches Ashes look to Verimund and chooses to add a bit of spice to that mix. "You hear, Verimund? The vampire was killed and those working with it as well. Just as it should be, don't you think?" Then to the group. "Shall we? Just a quick check before we find food and lodging."

Lysos looks a little troubled at the report of the executions as well.. but ultimately she has to shrug. HOw else might it have gone down, after all? "Let's go," is all she offers then, pulling at her horse's reins just enough to turn his head in the right direction.. then she urges him forward.

Burai walks along with the rest of the party, hunching his shoulders ever so slightly as they step through the gates and into the town. He casts glances around at buildings and other manmade features as they pass by.

The old man mumbles, "Veriford." almost petulently, but he is nonetheless along for the ride as Ashes leads on.

The ride to the estate is as quiet as it was for the previous group, and as before the gates stand open to the world, allowing dulcent sounds of quietly snuffling bacons to emanate forth. While well fed, none of them are quite as large as the outliers from the pervious visit, and none are as... spirited, though it is getting on in a warm day...

Several hands, stomping the mud from their boots on the porch turn to regard the visitors as they ride into the farm, "Hello there!" one calls.

Irshya is quiet for the trip to the farm, leaning against Sabina a little, and dozing off. Carbuncle has hidden away in her sleeve, only the tip of his tail visible at this point. The Goblin yawns widely as they approach the farm, and she stares at the pigs that root around in the muck. "Binabina.", she says softly. "What are those?"

"We're here to speak to Maeble about Ellastra and some of her callers." Ashlee says, her voice monotone as she stares down from her horse at the nearest Farmhand. "Also, do you recognize that man?"

She stretches out an arm, pointing a finger with stylized bones at Veriford.

Burai looks to see what Irshya is asking about. Then he gives Irshya another sideways glance. He turns back to the farmhands. After his experience with socializing at the pallisades he's happy that someone else is asking the questions...he positions himself near Veriford. He keeps within a falchion's length distance which is actually the traditional spacing used by Oruch guarding prisoners. The implication being that rather than tackle an escapee in the attempt, the guard will seek to chop off a limb.

Bina giggles at the gobbo. "Those, my dear Irshya, are pigs. Those are where bacon comes from. There along the back and ribs. That's what bacon is." Well.. it's a blunt answre but it could have been worse.

"The meat is cut and then cured, usually with salt and smoke from certian trees for a period of time. Then it's ready to cook." Ok.. more information then was needed.

Lokir stretches his arms and fingers, then takes a quick swish of water to clear his mouth and throat from the dusty road. Having prepared his instrument, Lokir's sylvan eyes narrow in focus to judge the response to Ashes' interrogation.

The many eyes of the potato peeking from Lokir's quiver do not narrow.

"Nope," is the only thing Lysos says when she looks at the pigs. Sure, they seem smaller. Sure, they seem less... person-eating. Unfortunately, they will probably forever remain stained by the crimes of their forbears. So Lysos lifts her gaze away from them and fixes upon the manor itself.

The invocation of the Matriarch's name, has a sort of dampening effect on the crew. Some shuffle uncomfortably, looking away, others seem a little angry, but it's a more unfocused, situational peeve than a directed ire. Ahem, "We don't like ta talk about... what was goin' on with her back then." He looks to Ashes, then Sabina as the most distinctive of that prior time, then Bannon and Lysos, "Mind waitin' here a moment, I'll go tell Miss Maeble yer here." and into the house the man goes....

Veriford shies a bit away from the oruch, either familiar with the distance's significane or simply not wanting to be ably closer to his captors than he absolutely must, while Carbuncle, feeling his master's anxiety, wiggles within the sleeve in agitation.

Meanwhile, the bacons snuffle contentedly, damned for their foreboars' sins.

Bannon grunts, looking towards Lysos and shaking his head, "Hell no." He listens to the conversation happening with the hands with interest, and as one leaves, Bannon mentions off-handedly, "This is a nice house. I didn't get a chance to look at it the last time we were here..." He hooks a hand on to this sword belt and just kind of wonders away. Far enough, it seems, to get a good angle on the back of the house in case someone was to abscond.

"Since we are here, is it okay if I give the lizzie back to the man?", Irshya asks of Sabina. "Lizzie is making a little fuss." The Gobbo peers at the pigs wandering around. "Smoke them? To.. preserve them?", she wonders of the woman. She looks around at the others, and then to the man who heads into the house, ostensibly to report their presence to miss Maebel.

The ashen arvec twists in her saddle and drops smoothly to the ground. Her horse is tied off on the fence, following this, Bannon's is tied off beside hers. She looks at Burai, guarding Veriford at an efficient distance, and says, "He needs help getting down."

Ashlee moves to provide that help, standing beside the hunchback on the horse, a skeletally decorated hand is held up towards him, along with a stare. Instead of tilting her head, she meerly looks upwards while facing forwards. The white skull on her face is very bright.

Burai shakes his head at Irshya's question. "Irshya, the lizard is a hostage," he intones. And then he admits, "...and possibly the key to his mage tricks." He favors Veriford with a stern look. Then he moves to help as well, moving to the opposite side of his borrowed horse from Ashes.

"I'm sorry, Irshya. But not yet. Ok? Soon." She waves then to the farmhands. "Hello there. We're in need of speaking to Miss Maeble if that's alright. Is it alright if we head on in and look for her?" She asks with a smile as friendly as she can.

Lokir also smoothly dismounts. Petting his mule affectionately, Lokir pulls a bit of carrot from his pocket and feeds it to the beast. "It's good to be out the saddle, no? Yes, I agree." Lokir steps aside and nods to the rest of the group.

It's a nice house, thankfully untorched after the previous dilemma. No one seems to be trying to book it out the back, fortunately, and there are rooms on the lower floor that are lit. Outside, the remaining workers look a bit uncertainly at the adventurers, especially as they start talking about lizards and hostages. Are they going to bring trouble?

Veriford, caught between an Arvek and a hard case flounders for a minute as Ashley makes her offer. A swallow and a look to Burai as he talks so about his dear Carbuncle, and he oves to accept the help without duplicitous impulse, "Thank you."

Emerging from the house is a modestly dressed woman of understated comeliness and a reserved demeanor, "Dinner's going to get cold, everyone, I'll be alright." she asides to the farmhands, who shuffle inside, then she takes a steadying breath and looks to the adventurers, "Hello... what can I do for you, today?"

Lysos sucks on her upper lip for a second as she watches the farmhands eyeball the group. "Well. Glad to see these folk aren't as suspicious as the ones who were here last time, right? Right?" With that she rises up in her saddle a little bit so she can properly dismount, then joins her horse with the others.. leaving her staff tied to her saddle bags. She turns to the addressing and almost manages to keep quiet. Almost. "Well, we're on a quest, and if you're Maeble, we think you can help."

"Dinner?", the Gobbo wonders of the woman emerging from the house. "Irshya greets you. Offers blessings of Rada!" She smiles to the lady and hops down from Sabina's shoulder, to offer the woman a curtsey. Irshya then walks to Veriford, moving her sleeve a little to show the man his familiar. "Don't worry, Irshya will take care of your lizzie. No one hurt it. Just be calm, yes? Irshya will feed it, what does it like eating? Irshya also give it water."

Lokir plucks his potato from its arrow-based perch. The mention of dinner spells doom for the well-travelled starch. With a quick bite, Lokir bravely fights back hunger.

Ash helps Veriford down, glancing at Buria, Irshya and Carbuncle before she looks back at him. He'll be well guarded by the oruch, she's confident.

The mourner approaches Miss Maeble, no recognition shows on her face, but Ashlee is minimally expressive on a good day. She makes an effort to be polite, offering her hand to the woman for a greeting shake. Her words are slow, even, uninflected, "Hello. We had some questions."

As no one seems to attempt to do a bunk even as the new lady of the house arrives on the porch to great the team, Bannon saunters back around to the front of the house and listens. He eyes Veriford for a moment, his eyes narrow and then his eyebrow rises archly. He didn't seem to have done anything to draw the ire of the swashbuckler, but never-the-less... A moment later, he turns his attention back to Maeble, and then nods in agreement with Ashlee, "We'll try to take up as little of your time as possible, madam."

Bina rolls her shoulder now that Irshya has vacated the space and sighs lightly. Her smile widens at the lady who has emerged from the household and offers her a wave, listening politely as Ashes steps up and takes charge of the conversation! "Go you!" She whispers at the mourner as a minor cheering section.

Lysos's eyes widen a little bit as she continues to look at Maebel then, taking a step back, lowering her voice and putting the back of her hand to her mouth to try and direct it at Sabina, she says, "I think she was there! Do you remember the maid?"

The woman seems a little unsure about the skull faced woman, but, nonetheless, she gently clasps hands, "Hello, my name is Maebel, I'm.... managin the estate after Madame Ellastra's... passing." She, like the others, seems a little conflicted over things, but, as she looks over the group, "How... can I help you?"

Veriford, seems suddenly in brighter spirits, but doesn't do anything, he suspects, to encourage an accident.

"We're looking for Ellastra's journal," Burai says. "Or her notes. Her letters." He looks away from Veriford long enough to study Maeble briefly. Then he quickly looks back, suspiciously.

The Gobbo lets the others speak with Maebel, being distracted by the pigs. She approaches one curiously, moving to it's side. Reaches out a hand to lightly pat at it. She giggles as it turns to regard her, and sniffs at her. She leans in. "Irshya think you're soft and warm."

Bannon tilts his head, looking between Sabina and Lysos, "Was she now?" He looks back towards Maebel and grins detrimentally, "Now that does raise some very interesting questions in addition to the ones we already have, doesn't it?"

"Liatris sent us," Ashlee says, still speaking in monotone and shaking Maeble's hand. She remembers to let go, her hands and the rest of her are often cold and clammy and most find this upsetting. Her hand drops to her side, she remains focused on the maid, blinking, but only occasionally.

"She believes someone corrupted her mother, and that you might remember strange visitors, or know of a journal that holds information." She waits, as if that's enough, then recalls that asking favours is a way to get people to like you, "Can you help us?"

Lokir suspects the questions would not be starch-related. But with Ashlee taking the lead, Lokir is happy to simply put his elven looks and good charm to work. "Aye...we've ridden quite a long distance for the poor girl. Any aid you could offer would be downright heroic--worthy of a song, even!"

There's a frown at the reasons presented, but she gives a resigned sigh as her hand is returned, "Miss Liatris was..." the woman sounds troubled, "Is she well, I mean...?"

With the goblin going to check out the merchandise, the former maid sidles to the side a little to call, "Be careful! They've just been fed, but they can still startle easily!"

Ahem. She glances sidelong at the swashbuckler in time for his grin and she shrinks slightly before steeling herself, then, first she addresses Burai's question, "What would you need her notes for?" Ashes brings more information to that, and she nods, sighing again, "I see. If you wouldn't mind quietly joining me in the study, I can retrieve them for you." A glances to the house and, "What happened was.... monsterous, but Madame Vorhearst, all the Vorhearsts, have been good to us... I'd like to do this without troubling them. Please?"

Irshya eyes the woman and waves to her in response. As people start to gather to move inside, the Gobbo runs to catch up with Sabina. "Piggies are so soft.", she says with a giggle. "Hard to turn them into food, yes?"

"She is well, with friends." Ash replies to Maeble, turning to give another glance at Veriford, before accepting the maid's invitation to the house and the study. She moves quietly, flowing around the gap in the fence and along the path to the house. The pigs get a glance, but she doesn't try to touch one. She reaches up and brushes the centipede, currently pretending to be a choker on her neck.

Burai looks at the house. He glances at Mable and then turns back to Veriford as well. "We'll wait out here," he offers. He gives the hunchback a warning look. Don't try anything, he seems to be saying.

Lysos just nods once to Bannon. She frowns briefly... then wipes it from her face. Literally. She moves her hand up, wipes at her mouth, and when she drops it she's put a smile upon it as she steps forward to follow Maebel.

Maebel pauses only briefly at the doors to the kitchen to see that everyone's got what they need for dinner, her daughter, perhaps, tending to the table. She leads the group into the study as quietly as she can, the inside of the house still warm and homey, though the picture of the former Matron is missing from the wall.

Within the study, the woman gathers a number of letters from a very discrete hidey hole that was missed the last time the group was present, as well as a small, humble diary, which are spread out along the desk before she settles into the chair and clasps her hands, keeping them in sight for the duration.

Irshya finds the name Gerzan amongst several of the letters, which must be the 'Ger-something' name Liatris struggled to recall.

Lokir, determines from the fellows verbiage to perhaps be of a more erudite background, with no drama in his soul. He probably hates potatoes, too.

Bannon's perusal takes the an's script to indicate the sinister fellow references seveal means of shipping that reach toward the Blar border, a vaguely alluded to 'sample' or 'catalyst' to her 'solution'..

Lysos, with her mystical experiences, manages to pick several out of place snippets in the letters that, when combined, even in part, suggest some form of necromantic ritual.

Ashes, finds nothing, being completely distracted touching everything else in the study, while occasionally looking at Irshya and Carbuncle.

A new direction to the trail, and enough of the secret exposed to be of concern, it's within the hands of these souls to determine the next course of action....
