Its a cold day and you were all called to the Adventurer's guild and asked to assist some villagers. It seems that there is a battlefield not far from their village and someone stirred up the restless spirits. The village just isn't really got much in the way of fighters at the moment so needs help dealing with some things that have been plaguing their flocks. You are offered decent compensation and then guided to the village. At the village you are told about how they keep finding parts of their flocks slaughtered and directed to the fields where the flocks graze, which is where you find yourself now, on the way to the pastures.
Called in at short notice, Halena's certainly happy to help given the described situation, and now paces through the pastures with the others, the gold and white robes of Daeus swirling around her ankles beneath the breastplate she wears. She wears a thoughtful frown as she paces. "I suppose we will find the culprits quickly enough," she remarks, studying the ground around them as if for clues.
"Restless spirits, huh?" Vasya says as she looks over the pastures. "Keep an eye out for pasture patties. If you step in one, you'll sit in one." She says with a laugh. "Hmmm......" She says as she looks over the corpses of the flocks. She then looks to Halena and smirks. "hello again, Sunguard."
Wilros has been in the city for no less than half of week. While it's surely filled with impressive sight and landmarks, it's nice to get out and visit a place similar to his own home. He was a bit surprised when he was hired for this job, but a reward was promised and it's always nice to help out a village in need. His own did not have the luxury of an Adventurer's guild. He walks into the site with a casual grace. "Hello ladies..." He says absently before looking at slaughtered animals for signs of death.

Coming up to the pasture, you can see where the animals were slain, from what the villagers told you, the bodies were left even. The villagers have since cleaned up though there are the signs of the places the animals were slaughtered, also heavy booted tracks heading off to the north through the trees.
Amid the dried blood and dirt, Halena pauses, looking down at the ground. "Look." She gestures at the booted tracks heading off into the trees. "It left that way."
<OOC> Wilros says, "how long has it been since the animals were killed?"
Vasya stays out of Halena's way as she investigates, and when she finds something Vasya simply nods. "Lead the way, Sunguard. I'm not a tracker, so I'll have to rely on you." She says with a smile, despite vines starting to wrap around the woman's arms.
Wilros hmms softly, studying the tracks. "Yes, and it seems 'it' was wearing boots," He mentions, for whatever the small piece of information is worth. "We should follow it, maybe it's still around." He pulls out his bow and slips an arrow between his fingers.

There is a clacking sound coming from the direction the boots went off.
"Nor am I," the raven-haired Halena answers with a laugh. "But any fool can see ..." The clacking sound interrupts her, and her head snaps up, startled. "What's that?"
Vasya looks up as well at the clacking sound. "Beats me. Unfortunately, I think you're the most heavily armored of this group, Sunguard. if you lead the way, I'll keep you covered." She says softly....falling in behind Halena.
"Probably the man we are looking for," Wilros says with a confident grin. "Yeah, I'll be right behind ya, 'Sunguard'" It's clear he's not quite sure what the title means or implies. He waits for Halena to approach before following the noise.
The clacking seems to be moving away, though as you head that way, you seem to be keeping pace with it, at least it doesn't sound closer or farther.
Although she doesn't quite /say/ it, Halena swallows hard before nodding and drawing the longsword at her hip. She takes a moment to unsling the shield over her back before following the tracks into the woods ... hopefully that will also take them in the direction of the clacking sound. "Best get this done with, then. Whatever it is, it has much to answer for." Uh-uh, Mom's coming.
"Among other things." Vasya says as halena goes off in pursuit. "All we have to do is find it and I can probably entangle it." She says softly....but, as a precaution, she DOES cast a mage armor spell.
Wilros slows his pace, trailing behind the two woman, bow ready. He too considers casting a protection spell. He decides against, however, hoping he's safe back here where the thing shouldn't be able to touch him (maybe). "We can ask it questions after it's down."
You walk for about twenty minutes before you see a clearing ahead. The clacking has stayed ahead of you the whole time.
It's easy enough to follow, so Halena's been steadily stalking the whatever it is, expression set in a grim line and very much wearing the look of a mother who's about to apply a paddle to a naughty child's rear end.

Wilros frowns as the clearing settles in his view. "We're moving at the same pace it's moving at. Maybe one of us should rush ahead. You know, to make sure we aren't being deceived. This could be a trick to get us away from the animals," Wil suggests slowly.

The clearing opens up and is the remains of a battlefield. There are decaying fortification and battered seige engines. There are battlefield graves and mounds as well.
You paged Wilros with 'You see two armored figures moving admist the battlefield, not too far, and they seem to be making the clacking. <feel free to pose so the others know put into your own words and all>'
Halena's steps slow as she comes to the edge of the battlefield, staring out across the bleak and battered landscape. It takes her a moment before Wilros' words get her attention. "You're right ... or perhaps whatever lies here simply wanted to get someone's attention." Her eyes are on the grave mounds. "It is clear that we are being led here ... the question is why."
"Nevermind," Wilros says, dismissing his other remark before nocking an arrow and pulling the bowstring back. "Over there, I think that would be them." His voice lowers to a hushed whisper as he points his bow towards the two armored man in the distance admist the battlefield.

Slowing to a stop near Wilros, Vasya doesn't.....see anything quite yet....until Wilros points them out. "Well then. I'm glad you can spot these things, hun." She says with a chuckle. "Seems they were leading us here for a reason." She then gestures to Halena. "Exactly....what you said."
Pausing a moment, Halena stabs her blade into teh ground for a moment as if to hold it before rising the holy symbol on her chest to her lips, then speaking to it. "Daeus, Lord of Light, grant me Your own strength of arms as we lay these souls to rest." She lets it drop as she draws a sigil in the air, which glows briefly golden before bathing her in the warm radiance.

As Wilros points them out and you all get ready, the two turn and you can see they are skeletons in various pieces of armor. They start for you pulling longswords.

As the skeletons are pointed out and they start coming towards them, Vasya places a hand on the ground and mumbles a couple of things. Roots suddenly shoot up from the ground and grabs one of the skeleton's legs as it comes for them. The other one is moving a little too fast.
Of the two skeletons one tries to break free, failing so is stuck where it is at. The other moves forward rather quickly, moving out of the area of vines and a lot closer.

At the sight of those skeletons, on seeing them for what they are, Halena's lips thin. "Where in the name of the Great Father are the Vardamen when you need them," she mutters to no one in particular, then drops the shield, pulls her blade out of the ground and stalks forward several feet. She raises the holy symbol on high with a freed hand, shouting, "In the name of the Father, your place is not in this world. Begone, into the Gray Harpist's halls with you!" A wash of that golden light, like sunlight, washes out from her, and seems to tear into the closer of the two skeletons.

"Someone could have summoned these to mess with us; this still could be just a distraction," Wilros calls out as he lets loose an arrow. Something to consider. His first arrow is a hit, but just a graze.

Moving forward a bit, Vasya moves to the side of the Skeleton and whips out one of the vines on her arm. Going after the legs, Vasya misses the leg of the skeleton. "Crap. I'm gonna keep trying, Halena."
The entangled skeleton struggles free and moves a bit closer. The other having been hurt by Halena but then Vasya is closer so it closes the distance and swings its longsword at Vasya, but misses completely.

The sight of Daeus' handiwork causes Halena to stop and watch .. for a brief second. Then Vasya closes -- that won't do at all. She hustles closer and slashes at it from the other side, but the badly-placed blow just glances harmlessly off its shield.

Wilros watches Vasya's attempt to trip his target. He gracefully adjusts positions to aim for the other armored skeleton. His arrow is a far miss. He lets out a curse and reaches for another arrow.

Now with the skeleton in her face, and the sword bouncing off of her force armor, Vasya steps back and uses the vine on her other arm. This time, it wraps around the skeleton's legs, and Vasya YANKS to bring the skeleton down on it's face. "Whip it good."

And up it gets ... not for long! Having worked with Vasya before, she'd been half-expecting that move. This time, though, as it gets up, she makes no mistake about the placement of that blade at all. The skeleton crumbles into dust at the sound and vicious blow, and she lets out a breath, the lips relaxing into a smile. "Your sword is mighty indeed, Sun Lord," she tells the pile of dust.
Whip it real good.
The other skeleton moves forward more, coming right up behind Halena but it is out of position to do much other than get close.

In the heat of battle, Wilros takes a moment to glance worriedly back at the pastures from which they came from. He only withdrawals from the fight for a brief moment, however before he fires off another arrow, this one piercing its armor. <OOC> Halena says, "OK, time for me to answer."

One skeleton down, the other knocked to the ground. It gets up and manages to avoid Halena's strike and almost gets a devestating blow, but does get a good solid hit.

And suddenly -- the heat of battle is joined again. Far from being a perfect two for two, Halena suddenly finds herself in a knock-down-drag-out fight with this thing, her blows going wide again and again even as crimson erupts from the arm of her robes beneath the breastplate. Is that a hint of panic in the brown eyes? Let's hope not.

Vasya keeps trying to help Halena with the fight, but her vines are randomly missing. "This is going badly fast. Halena...move back towards me."

The Skeleton avoids being tripped and carves out another slice of Halena, keeping up the assault.

Seeing Halena get really hurt, Vasya makes a face. "Crap. Time to really hurt it." She says as she 'throws' a pair of blue spheres at the skeleton....blasting it twice for a decent bit of damage.
When your strength is not enough, it's time to call on the Big Guy Upstairs. Taking a step just out of its reach, Halena lifts her holy symbol on high, repeating her prayer. "In the name of the Father, begone! Your time in this world is done!" If it's a little fast, a little unfocused ... who cam blame her? But ... the golden wash seems to do far less than before.
The skeleton swings at Halena and does drop its sword. Maybe the spell did it.

Watching the others essentially outclass him in damage output, Wilros sends a dirty look the skeleton's way and moves forward to get a better shot. He just misses the creature, and his frown deepens.

The skeleton picks up its sword and moves after Halena again.

And again, Vasya uses her magic missiles to blast the skeleton's face....doing a bit more damage. "It's almost down, Halena."

The words somehow seem to steady the Sunguard, and she takes a deep breath as the skeleton grabs its weapon and approaches her again. This time, as it steps into her wheelhouse, she makes no mistake, the blade slashing downwards. It's not a legendary blow, but it's enough, and the thing again crumbles into dust at her feet. The skeletons fall and the battlefield seems to be quiet

Vasya walks her way forward and places a hand on Halena's shoulder. "Are you all right?" She says softly as she looks over the skeleton. "Well...that explains the deaths of the livestock...."
There's a pause as Wilros watches the skeleton crumble. Once it's assured that the creature is dead (or at least not moving), Wilros lets out a small sigh. "Well, great job you two. I need another bow," He grumbles that last part as he wanders over to the women. "We can't be too sure of that, Vasya. I would've bet my life on a theory. One where another man summoned these creatures and sent them out here to distract us. It seems that I was mistaken..."

You paged Halena with 'you can see areas nearby that look excavated. that with your knowledge roll, you figure someone desecrated one of the burial mounds and disturbed the dead which is why they rose. There doesn't seem to be any other places that look disturbed so it should be safe.'
With an effort, Halena pushes herself to her feet. "Do not blame your bow," she says, pulling the sword from the earth and examining it before sheathing it again. At least skeletons don't leave a mess on the blade. "Arrows and blades are not so effective against such as these. Daeus' strength allowed me to hurt them." She's bleeding in a couple of places, and could use repairs, but can walk, at least, it seems.
She pauses a long moment, looking around, and suddenly spots one of the burial mounds, which looks to have been desecrated or dug up. "That is likely why," she tells the other two. "I don't see any others, so I think that that is all. Best we warn the good folk of the village away from this place until I can notify the Mourners." The clerics of Vardama are likely to be only too happy to address any further issues.
Vasya nods to Halena. "Yeah. I'm just glad we were able to defeat them." She says before looking at Halena's wounds. "yeah, the Mourners and their Inquisitors will want to figure out who started this."
The local priest does arrive and says they will look into it and you get your payments and much thanks from the villagers as well as a good meal. They thank you for helping them.
