- Title: Another Escort
- Emitter: Zyla
- Characters: Zam 2, Charlotte 4, Jokul 2
- Place: Outside Alexandria
- Time: Mar 10, 2016
- Summary: Hired to meet up with a merchant and escort back to Alexandria.
- APL: 2
- Encounter 1: 1 CR 3 Drake (Lowered numbers and CR so chars not too overpowered)
You were all contracted to escort a merchant from a point not too far from Alexandria, to Alexandria itself. You are getting close to the agreed upon location, there is only one problem....No merchant. There is the charred remains of a wagon that looks like it was hit with something that set it on fire.
Charlotte gets there and......winces. "Well...ow." She says as she looks about for any sigh of the culprit. "I don't think we're going to finish this one successfully." She says as she keeps her left hand on her rapier.
The halfling's words, they put the accent in all the wrong places. And Zam? Well, Zam also talks loud, for someone her size,"I know I say this WAY too much, but this is totally not my fault!" She takes her own beaten rapier out and pokes some of the remains, looking around it. "It's not failure. It's post-emptive declination of a task."
And then there's Jokul. Who just walks calmly past the two rapier-wielding women, with his oversized sword already set to bear -- sort of, anyway. It's too large to keep in a sheath, so he just keeps it held in one hand and propped against his armored-up shoulder. "Do you..." He begins to say, with his back turned to both of them (which is probably not so great for Zam). "...See a body?"
<OOC> Zyla says, "perception" GAME: Jokul rolls Perception: (20)+2: 22 GAME: Charlotte rolls perception: (14)+9: 23 GAME: Zam rolls perception: (3)+2: 5
As you all look around you find a body under the remains of the wagon. He appears to be breathing though is unconcious. THere are multiple sets of tracks heading off to the north of something large, or somethings large.
Charlotte walks around the wagon and gestures for Jokul. "he's under the wagon." Of course, she's not strong at all. "Come on Jokul, lets get him out from under there."
Zam doesn't, of course, hear Jokul. She's still poking around for THINGS. "Either of you see a body?" A pause, and then she goes on,"We could totally make some drinking money selling this as charcoal." She starts picking up burned wood. She's already dirty anyway.
"...That's what I just..." Jokul begins to say, before he sends an utterly bemused look Zam's way while she's... digging for stuff. He is, perhaps, not aware of the fact that the halfling can't actually *hear* him. Either way, after a few seconds of bemused staring, his attention is caught by Charlotte's call. "...Right. Right. Suppose he'll want us to chase after stolen cargo, too," he mutters, but seems to be willing enough in helping get the merchant out of his current jam at the very least, seeing as he stabs his massive sword against the ground in order to leave both hands freed for when he crouches down to take hold of and lift the rubble pinning the man down.
You can easily clear the rubble to make it easier to pull the guy out.
When Zam speaks, and asks, where the person is....after Charlotte yelled for Jokul, she makes her way over towards Zam. "Did you not hear me?" She says starting to kneel down, but something seems to be dawning on Charlotte.....
The woman is still kneeling down to pick through the rubble when she catches Jokul moving out of the corner of her eye. Not hearing Charlotte as she is addressed, the halfling goes reeling off towards the man that Jokul is lifting rubble off of, and goes after his shoes. Ostensibly to leverage her tiny mass into moving. "Come on, lady! He needs some help moving this guy! Maybe we'll still get paid if we find his cargo!" Almost like she's repeating him.
As you go to move the guy, the guy starts to wake and starts to scramble back under the debris, like it was using it to protect himself. "Get under cover, they might come back" he says and passes out again.
Jokul has no words left. He just sends another brief stare at Zam before turning a more questioning look Charlotte's way. He doesn't keep at it for long, though, before he reaches with one hand to grab at the back of the merchant's shirt for the sake of dragging him far enough out - with a grunt - that he can let go of the rubble propped up over his other arm. Right in time for the man to wake up and go into hiding. "...Well."
Charlotte walks her way over and places her hand on the lucht's shoulder. She was right, but she wasn't going to voice it, not that she'd hear. "What might come back." She taps Zam on the shoulder to let her know she's speaking.
Finally, Zam looks up when her shoulder is tapped. If she feels upset or defensive, it's anyone's guess as it doesn't show on her face. She gives the woman a thumbs-up. "Trouble? And if he's trying to get into cover, it's trouble with arrows. Spread out. Clustering only leads to trouble." She starts looking around carefully,"Trouble with alchemist fire, maybe?"
As you all watch the guy try to hide again and wonder from what there is a roar that sounds to be coming closer. Whatever it is is coming back.
"Or it's a wizard throwing a fireball." Charlotte says gesturing to the wood on the ground. "Lets hope not." She then looks to Zam, and directly at Zam. "When we get out of this, I'm teaching you Sign language." She says with a bright smile.
"...Or maybe not," mutters Jokul, and steps back aside to grab hold of his sword again, pulling it up from the ground and turning it back to being propped against his shoulder. "Sounds like we're not going to have to bother looking for it." And, no. He still probably doesn't realize Zam can't... well. Hear.
The halfling puts a finger on her nose as the woman speaks of teaching her sign language, and nods. She gives a thumbs-up. Then Zam is swinging her little rapier through the air in some practice swings, unaware that there is any roaring going on, of course. "Finger-wiggling jackfaces are utterly my worst nightmare."
The roaring is getting closer and now you can feel the ground move too, something is coming fast from the other side of the hill.
Charlotte smiles to Zam, but then the rumbling gets closer and she draws her own rapier as well. but then she pointedly looks to Zam....to her eyes, then to her chest. "eyes on me." She speaks out before looking to Jokul. "she's deaf, Jokul. She'll be able to overcome it in time, but she acts like it was a recent thing." She says to Jokul. "I'll give her commands since I know sign language, you keep both hands on your sword." Of course, she's turned so Zam can see what she's saying too.
"Eh?!" Is Jokul's response, apparently, to Zam's deafness, while he's already lifting the oversized sword enough that he can grip the hilt with both hands. "That's great. You wanna tell her to get in line? Doesn't feel like this is gonna be more than one, but..."
The woman sticks her tongue out at Charlotte,"Ptttht. I overcame it! I'm just new to adventuring! But I'm good at stabbin-" Then the ground is trembling, and she nods,"But I'll follow your lead." She makes a face and turns to stand side-by-side with the woman, eyes flicking up to her so she can see her mouth move,"You tell me what you need from me and I'll make it happen."

<OOC> Charlotte is going to move to the side....spreading out from Jokul.....and gonna try to Demoralize too....
The halfling takes off at a jog, crossing to the right side of the approaching Drake and swinging her sword wildly in the air,"GRRR! ARRR! I'M A SCARY HALFLING!" And general loud sounds as she shakes her head, shouts, and does her best to foam at the mouth like a diseased rabid halfling.

Charlotte makes her way to the side and actually salutes the 'dragon' as it comes their way. A salute is probably lost on said dragon though.
The dragon thing moves closer, its long neck is almost in reach of those closer.

Round Two - Init 9. It is now Charlotte's turn! One is next!
<OOC> Charlotte says, "has it used it's AOO?"
"..Oi, what are you doing?!" Jokul calls out to the two (forgetting again, apparently, that Zam likely will not hear that), and with a click of his tongue made against the roof of his mouth, he goes sprinting forward with the mighty sword in tow, pounces up into the air with the momentum bringing the sword above his head and a roar of a battlecry let out... only for the slithering neck of the beast to swish *just* out of the way so that his sword lands in the ground instead, sending dirt flying off into the air and... leaving Jokul with a very distinct expression that speaks 'oh shit'.
<OOC> Zyla says, "no, but you can try the tumble thing too." <OOC> Charlotte says, "right" GAME: Charlotte rolls acrobatics: (14)+11: 25 <OOC> Zyla says, "good" <OOC> Charlotte says, "and Attack" <OOC> Zyla says, "you can flank with zam" <OOC> Charlotte nodnods. The halfling meanwhile is now running up to the beast as it approaches, tumbling into a forward roll as a swipe goes over her head. As she comes up out of the roll, she lunges forward with the sword, only to have it skitter off the beast's scales, point failing to find an opening.

It seems Zam got the idea, and Charlotte runs for the other side of it. Showing a good deal of acrobatics in her flip, Charlotte lands right next to the 'dragon' and stabs it with her sword.

<OOC> Jokul says, "Power Attack? Power attack."
The Thing tried to bite Jokul and slashes at Zam and Charlotte both with a claw towards each, it comes really close to hitting Zam, but is a bit overwhelmed thanks to Charlotte.

"I got this side, tall lady! Big guy, keep whacking it hard!" Using her vantage point from nearly underneath the lizard thing, she steps forward and slides her thin sword to the hilt inside the joint near one of its legs, joggles the handle, then pulls the thing back out and grins (only to have a splurt of blood hit her in the face). "Gross. Git 'em!"
<OOC> Charlotte says, "and if it doesn't drop, I intimidate again."
Jokul's sideward lean manages to bring him *just* away from the dragon's(?) teeth -- and he uses the same motion to lift his heavy sword up from the ground, too, and after regaining his balance, promptly turns it into a more deliberate motion of an upward slash that cuts deep through the thing's side, roaring out "RRRHHHAAAA--!" while blood rains down from the created wound.

Now that it has to keep an eye on three flanks, Charlotte uses it to her advantage. She stabs the thing in the flank with her rapier, and smiles as she can tell Zam is still fighting."
The thing moves slightly not much really but enough to turn its head around and line up to blast acid from its mouth, spraying all three but luckily they seem to get just a splash rather than the full stream.
GAME: Zyla advances the initiative order.

"Shi--" Is the only verbal reaction Jokul manages when he sees acid flying towards him-- but luckily his feet move faster than his mind does, and just for good measure he brings one armored arm up to shield his face from the errant splatters. Still-- it does burn through the armor enough to urge a pained groan past grit-together teeth. Rather than yelling for any further tactical ideas to anyone, though, he grits his way through the pain and stomps after the beast, stepping just beside it's long-necked head. Now. He might not be *as* fast and graceful as his two fighting partners, but he has a BIG SWORD. And it's weight comes to show as such when he lifts it up with the same motion that turns him to facing the beast directly, and then swings the oversized blade down through the neck with another roaring battle cry. And in the same instant that the sword lands in the dirt after cutting through flesh, so does the 'dragon', leaving Jokul standing still there for a moment, panting lightly from the exertion.
There is no sounds now that the thing has dropped, it appears to have been alone. "KOR'S TIT'S!" That one doesn't even make sense. But being splashed with acid still HURTS. Luckily, Zam is saved from having to declare that she is Zam Montoya and the drake killed her father, and that it must prepare to die. Still. She can't let a man with a big sword get all the glory! She clambers quickly onto its back, sticks her sword into the already dead creature, and strikes a pose,"Fear not fellow adventurers, it is slain! I have delivered you!"
"Ow ow ow." Charlotte says as she dances away from the acid spit. "Well....I guess if it was going to die, that's the way to go." She says as she walks over towards Jokul. Thankfully, her armor and rapier aren't worse for wear. Thank you magic. "Everyone okay?" She says looking to Zam, but says it to everyone.
<OOC> Zyla says, "one more pose each, then I will do a wrapup..."
Jokul's response to Charlotte is a grunt that is supposed to somehow resemble affirmation, though when he lifts up the sword - with just one hand this time - he lets out a more of a frustrated sound. A bigger sword is harder to keep from taking hits from acid and the like, and so this one has had a few chips of iron burned off because of it, too. "...I *just* had this fixed, too..."
Zam waves her sword in the air 'majestically',"I'm fine. A flesh wound." Said as smoke rises from the flesh of her cheek. "I have slain the dragon! Cut its head right off and stabbed it through the heart. When they speak of this day, they shall know that Zam, Avatar of Justice now protects Alexandria-" She'll be going on like that until someone stops her. At least she doesn't suffer from low self-esteem.
Putting her Rapier away, Charlotte tilts her head. "You could always get Abrahil or Stirling to get that fixed for you....and less likely to get pitted.' She says before waving for Zam to come off of the Drake. "What I find strange, is that the cart was burning from fire...yet this thing spit acid." She says to Jokul. "Strange?"
Well you are able to get things cleaned up a little, and get the merchant awake. He apparently stole a drake egg and was trying to transport it when the mated pair attacked, the female, a red took off with the egg, the male the black is the one that came back apparently. You still get paid, and the merchant gets incarcerated for trying to transport dangerous cargo without the proper permits.
