Eye of the Needle

Somewhere near Wilderness Pointe, you've heard rumours of something altogether strange. Cats and dogs have been going missing from villages, and other weird things too. It's all be traced to a large badger sett on the outside of town, but the villagers have no way of getting inside, and a loath to go poking their noses into something so weird. What does that mean? Why, bold adventurers are called for, of course!
And so here you are, outside a big badger sett, wondering: how am I going to get in there...

Ralickwort has arrived.
From the south, a strange-looking gnome arrives. "Hullo," he murmurs. "Tryin'-a gettin there, huh? Well, I guts sumtin' as might be helpful, hurr-hurr-hurr."
Zyla cocks her head to the side as the large lass looks at the gnome and then back to the Badger, "Could just smash way in, but that might not work out the best." she is looking for something that might be able to be forced open.
Ralickwort says, "Nah, dun do that." His beard extends suddenly, and reaches inside his messy grey robes. It looks a bit weird. "Try this instedd, it's pretty tasty. Make ya small enough to go in."
Someone is destroying cats and dogs?!
Smythly is on it like... like a goblin on a bear, actually. That's what he's riding right now. A BEAR. IT IS A VERY LARGE BEAR.
"We'll find what's causing it," he says. The bear is snuffling around. <OOC> Ralickwort says, "Ah, you have a bear." <OOC> Ralickwort says, "Whelp." <OOC> Smythly does! :D
Zyla shakes her head, "I am not eating anything that came out of there." she murmers and then looks over at the bear rider, "Any ideas?" she still looks for something she can maybe force open or break open to get in. Ralickwort says, "Nah, 's'badgers, innit. They's in there, gobber." He brings out a flask with a crudely made label, marked: Rolickwort's Shrink-Yoo-Leyk. "Drink-ee this, get in there, kill badgers. Easy-o."

"...so we're shrinking and going to face terrible badger monsters. I'm in," says Smythly, taking the elixir from the gnome.

The gnome Ralickwort grins, and grabs another from within his cloak. "'Ere's won for the likkle bear, too. Can't have him wandrin' round that size."
Zyla sighs a little, "Alright, we can shrink," she mutters. She really doesn't like the idea.
<OOC> Iadoth says, "Neither would I, Zyla, neither would I."
"Okay, Muddy. I guess you're staying here, unless there's a enough for my bear? I don't think he'd like being small." Pat pat on the bear'sside.
<OOC> Smythly says, "me. xD"
Drinking the potion makes you feel /really weird/. Once the thing hits your gut, you start to shrink. After a moment, you're down to Ralickwort's size, and he grins. A couple of moments later and you're about half his size, and the gnome starts to belly laugh. "Hahaha!" he cries, slapping his thighs. "By Deimos, tiny gobbers are cyoot."
Zyla will take one when offered, so that she can shrink down as well.
The gnome hands Zyla two flasks, 'cause she's so massive, and wanders off back towards the town. "'T'll last a gudd while," he shouts, as you watch him go. "Hahahaha!"
A goblin is now tinier.
Smythly looks annoyed and says, "Well! Let's do this. The sooner this wears off, the better."
Ralickwort has left.
If you look around, you can see one obvious entrance into the sett, which is a well-excavated, well used hole...
Zyla takes a bit longer to shrink down because of her size to start with but does eventually get to the right size. She stretches and flexes a bit, "Yep, sounds good to me." she says and does start moving towards the entrance.
It's dark in the little hole, and quite warm. There is an unmistakeable smell of animal here. The tunnel is large enough for you to walk upright, which is a boon. But it's quite dark.

As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you see a dark tunnel ahead about 50 feet long.
<OOC> Iadoth says, "As a hint, I am running this as a kind of 'classic' dungeon." <OOC> Iadoth says, "Only without the wandering monsters malarkey, 'cause that's hard work in a mush." <OOC> Smythly laughs.
Zyla rubs her eyes a bit, "At least not fully dark in here." she murmers as she starts down the tunnel.
"...I hope this is not maze of twisty passages all alike. Do I need to find Ormarr and make HIM beat up the badgers? Talk some sense into them?" Smyhtly grumbles, stoically, as he moves forwawrd.
At the end of the tunnel you can see a wall, and perhaps it's a corner. But is there something embedded into the wall? Kinda hard to tell from this distance...
"...what is /that/?" says Smyhtly as he approaches. He moves closer, of course. "...better not be a giant spider. Though, really, spiders re a lot bigger now when we're this small." HE has his hammer out, ready to poke at whatever it is. Just in case.

Zyla shakes her head a bit and moves closer as well. She peers ahead, trying to see what it might be.

As you wander ever closer to the thing, you can't make it out. Maybe it's just a recess in the wall?

Both Zyla and Smythly manage to jump out of the way, but it's a bit tight as the walls of the burrow are only a couple of feet wide. The cone of flame sears their tiny backs. Not the most friendly of doorbells.
Zyla blinks, "A...trap in a badger hole? What are these, Artificer Badgers?"
The trap expended, the tunnel continues round to the left for a few feet, before turning back on itself again it seems, from this distance.
"I've... what in the hells?!" Smythly is caugh off guard. His face is covered in soot and the flame seared his back indeed. 'Maybe it was a trap FOR the badgers. BALLS."
<OOC> Iadoth giggles. <OOC> Iadoth says, "Bwahaha."
Zyla shrugs a bit, "maybe." she shakes her head and sighs a little. She brushes her clothes down a bit, "Shall we?" she gestures towards the rest of the tunnel and then starts down it.
There's some daylight round that next corner, incidentally. It illuminates it all nicely. As you turn the second corner you see why---there's been a bit of a collapse in a tunnel, resulting in a dead end. Not to worry though, the corridor forks off to the right a few steps ahead of you.
"...We shall carry on!" Smythly says and then marches THAT way.
The fork to the right leads to yet another right hand turn, and following the corridor for a few steps, the pair notice a few weird markings in the wall. Well, the whole thing is pretty weird, but this is especially odd.
"...is this someone's idea of a practical joke? I bet it was the gnome's fault," mutters Smythly as he gets closer to the markings to study them.
The markings seem to be a crudely-drawn representation of a skull with flaming eyes. /Very/ crudely drawn. Maybe by something with sharp claws, better suited for digging than making precision movements. Come to think of it, maybe a badger?

Zyla mutters a little and shakes her head, "Smart badgers?" she doesn't really notice anything out of the ordinary other than the fact that the badgers are into cave clawing.

"...Thul? Really? Here? What, is he making /undead badgers/ Or udnead cats and dogs, now?" Smythly sounds more irritated than anything else.

Past the carvings, the corridor continues, reaching a fork a few more steps down the line. You can carry straight on, or turn off to the right, from whence a strange briny smell emanates...
You paged Smythly with 'Thanks, I guess Zyla would probably have recognised it then.'
Zyla cocks her head to the side, "So great, we are going after Thulite badgers who are making zombie cats and dogs." she mutters a bit as she wrinkles her nose a bit, "That smells off."
"...smells like the sea. Odd," says Smythly. But follow his nose, he does, and begins to head that way.
After a few dozen feet there's another fork off to the right, if you'd choose to take it. The briny smell is very strong here, but it's not especially linked to any direction.
"...I say straight. What do you say?" Smyhtly looks towrd shis companion.
Zyla nods her head, "As good as any, proves dead end, we come back." she says. She wrinkles her nose a little more due to the smell.
"Reasonable," agrees Smythly. He carefully lifts his hamer and proceeds ahead, armor clanking.
The corridor winds to the left, then twice to the right. The pair pass another fork, but this one they can see is a dead end. The stench has heightened, and is now definitely describable as a 'foul odour'. It's turned into a kind of rotting seaweed smell, that you might experience on the shore after a long, hot summer's day, but just a whole lot worse.
"...oh dear gods," says Smythly, briefly staggered by the pungency of the aroma. He makes a sound of distinct gagging.
Zyla shakes her head, "Alright, getting closer to whatever."

Both Zyla and Smythly feel distinctively queasy, and, quite possibly, are sick in the tiny corridors. The stench is really horrible.

Zyla shakes her head, "Gahhh." she retches jus a bit and then shakes her head, "Find it yet?" she wants to get out, but they do have a job to do.
There is a pause in the derring-do from Smyhtly as he vomits messily.
The tunnel continues on for dozens of feet, winding several times, before reaching the next fork. The smell as worn off a little but the pair still feel horribly unwell. Here the path splits more or less into three: Left, right, or straight on?
Zyla shakes her head a bit, but is managing to stay upright, "Alright, which way?"
"...this time," says Smythly, "give me a moment." He kneels down, searching for signs of passage or any other indications as to which way they could go.

Actually, there are plenty of tracks at this junction. Most of them head are focussed on heading to or returning from whatever is down the right hand passage. There's a different smell in that direction, too. And through the walls you can hear faint scuffling, movement and thudding.
"To the right, then," says Smythly. "I think I can see something leading the way." So to the right he goes!
Zyla nods her head and did see tracks that way too so moves to follow after him. She nods, "Quietly, I can hear them, so they can hear us."

Still, Smythly works hard to fit through the tunnel, walking side by side wit Zyla in the direction he's BEEN going.

As you turn a final corner, you see something /very strange/ in the little chamber ahead. Sure, they're badgers, but they seem to be shuffling and scuffling around something else --- a very pale, very white looking badger. Carrying, for no earthly reason you can see, a matt-black scythe, and wearing scale mail.

The pale badger roars and growls viciously, and points at you with the end of the scythe. You're sure he's saying something rude. One of the badgers makes a break for it and runs towards you, foaming at the mouth!
... Of course, it's still a zombie, and it takes a while to reach you.

The badger takes a step forward and gives a tiny growl, and presents its pendant --- a skull with eyes reddened with clay! A wave of weird energy sweeps across the room...

Smyhtly keeps it up, applying the pressure. They can't get through his armor, so far, and his faith is his shield. "Reos protects me, fiendish badger OH GOD DID I JUST SAY THAT," he yells. And then two swift strikes nearly level both opponent.
Once again, the cleric grabs his horrible icon, screaming with the power of Thul as the energy burns into the room!

The Thulite cleric yelps, and collapses to the ground, unconscious and bleeding profusely in the same instant. He looks decidedly unhealthy. Well, more so than before. The other badger, on the other hand, seems fine, repeatedly healed by the cleric's channelling abilities.

The paladin's final two hammerblows cause some existential distress to the zombified badger, and the thing collapses, like its brethren, in a horrible heap on the ground. The Thulite cleric, still breathing, is completely unconscious. Sounds like a mission well-completed.
