- Title: Finite Space
- Emitter: Slixvah
- Characters: Slixvah, Verna, Zofija
- Place: Mountain Road
- Time: April 30th, 2022
- Summary: After a recent dealing with some acid blobs, Slix goes to try and glide about atop the Mountain Road. It doesn't go well. Being buffeted into a cliff face, she ends up sliding in front of Verna's house, soon after to be checked on by said Mourner, as well as her friend Zofija coming in from the Temple of Vardama. Slix is just a bit woozy from the impact, though Verna uses (over)uses some blessings to wash away any doubt, mending both Slix and Zofija's acid injuries. Introductions are had, and they part ways to eat respective meals.
- Mountain Road, Midday
Climbing the Mountain Road always takes such a long while to reach its apex. At least walking up it would blast one with the sun, as it was hidden away behind a grey sky, a threat of a storm lingering around, potential rain to fall.
As well other things falling.
A winged figure is gliding above the road, one wing tucked in against the sky. It's hard to get a glimpse of them, but there is a trail of ribbons trailing behind them.
Though, a buffet of air makes their glide askew, and it jerks them towards the mountain. They flap, trying to correct course, but end up smacking against the flat of the mountain cliff.
Sloooowly, comically, they slide down the rockface until they kerplunk against the stone of the road. And they flop to the ground on their back. "... owies..." they chirp.
The eglarin woman differs from her usual self. Her head is missing quite a number of her feathers, leaving a pockmarked plucked appearance, with some of the wings on her also gone and/or melted away.
Just off of the road at the cliffside, Verna persuses a tome beneath her covered portico. Until a flash of movement above the road catches her eye... followed by the echoing slap and the subsequent landing on the road's edge opposite her. The book floats aside as she rises from her chair and steps out to investigate. "Are you conscious?" she inquires. A simple query that is readily answered whether there is a response or not.
Down the road, on the way from the direction of the temple came a familiar Arvek-nar to some, but not to others. While looking relarively normal, both of her hands were wrapped heavily in bandages, going a fair way up her arms. And held in one heavily bandage hand was a large wicker basket which swung lazily from their hand.
Their pace picked up quickly however when they see an egalrin skidding down the rock face. "Shit, Slix? You alright there?" She asks, not paying too much attention to the other figure just that moment as she skidded to a halt.
"Bwuh..." the crashed woman blubbers, dazed for a beat before she shakes her head and pulls herself to a sitting position. "Ah, my heavens.... I am. Spot of weird wind there, hon. Apologies, did I land in front of you?"
Her attention shifts to the figure rushing up to her from the rock face. She perks up. "Oh. Muscles! I'm ah-" A wave of dizziness rushes over her. "... a little woozy from that. I'll be good though, done that a dozen dozen times."
"I do not suggest continuing to do so, if at all possible," Verna offers to the Egalrin with impaired equilibrium. "Impact with the mountain is far more detrimental to the impactor than the impacted. I am Sage Mourner Verna," she introduces for benefit of both, looking back to the Egalrin to add, "and would offer aid should you require."
Zofija stops to collect herself, and look to the other person nearby finally. The Arvek-nar sighs "The uh, the lady, I think, there is right. You shouldn't be making a habit of falling out of the sky. Outside of gliding, which sort of covers that and is fine."
"You're a cleric then, which means you can help her? I wouldn't turn down the offer Slix, a lot of bad knocks can go unnoticed."
The discombobulated egalrin woman holds up a hand and carefully shakes her head. "No no sugar, I won't be," she softly chuckles before rubbing the side of her head. "Name's Slixvah Unmesi. Or Slix, if you're feelin' in. Mourner eh? I guess there's a worse way to meet one of ya's. Wouldn't hurt ta take a looksie."
She looks to the Nar, and she lightly sighs. "Yeah, kinda embarrsing to all outta the sky like that. Missin' feathers does that sometimes." She glances down to Zofi's hands. "Like yours? You good after all that?"
Verna nods. "Indeed. I admit that my skills in healing are not as practiced as others." As Slix implied, Mourners do not tend the living as often as the deceased. Perhaps due to that, Verna trusts The Grey Harpist more than herself. "It is not yet your time to be judged," she intones and beseeches with a gesture of gloved hand, calling upon Her aid to keep others heading to Her Hall just yet. After the observation by Slix of the arvek, she adds, "nor yours," and repeats the process. While she may not tend the living often, they do make for more active conversation than the deceased.

"That tends to happy when most people being sent to your temple." Zofija shrugs. "I'm fine, just a bit of acid is all, it'll be fine I'm sure."
And then the cleric offers a prayer that seems to cause every bit of pain vanish. Only to be replaced with a horrible itching as she scratches at the bandages on her arm. "Wait, shit, what in the, not the hells, that's some powerful stuff. What's a mourner like you doing wandering around here?" She asks, more than a bit dumbfounded.
Slixvah gives a little shrug as she rests her back against the face of the cliff. "Nothin' that a lil' prayer can't hurt. Was gonna use a little bit of my own, but I'm a touch spent at the moment. 'sides, what's the worst that can happe-"
Then the outlandishly garbed eglarin is pumped full of divine healing. Her eyes fly open, hands clenching against the stone road and talons curled into fists. "Ga- a-"
And then the energy fades away, leaving the crashed woman physically hale, but mentally spent. It didn't do anything to fix the missing feathers (those would have to grow back in), but the chemical burns were washed away.
She flops over sideways. "... I think that fixed my jammed pinky talon from when I was three," she pants. "Kor's balls, honey. I bonked my head, not got my limbs chopped off...!"
Verna frowns at the reactions and exhales a sigh. "My apologies to you both. I was recently without my Mistress' blessings for a time; I only just focused myself with prayers a short time past. I may have underestimated the effect or overestimated the need." She turns to gesture to the stone cottage at (or, rather, extended over) the cliff face over the city below. "I did not wander. She landed, and you arrived, just outside my home."
Zofija blinks, then looks to the Egalrin that was looking more than a bit out of sorts until they relaxed.
"Well, seems like it worked alright, anyways. No, no, don't worry about it, Verna, right?" The arvek-nar offers in apology. "It's just, that's a lot to take in in just a moment really, like I could feels my bones shifting around under my skin and all that. But thanks."
"You live out here? I thought the only thing was that weird magic shop and the Vardaman temple. You uh, you want a sandwich or some cake or something?"
Slix, from her position on the ground, waves a dismissive wing. "Apology accepted-" though, it's quick to turn to one of confusion. "-however shug, that is a bit right odd. Sleepin's been weird for me recently, have anything ta do with that?"
A glance over to the little cottage. "Oh, what a lovely little house. Wait. Is that stone hanging over... huh. Now that's nifty. Reminds me of home a bit. Though less open."
She does however, finally, sit upright against the cliff wall. "... I'll take a sandwhich Muscles if you're offerin'.
"I do, and you are mostly correct," Verna confirms to the arvek. "Aside from the temple and nobility district you passed, and the airstation further north," a gloved hand gestures towards the lights further along the road and elevated higher up the mountain, "there is little of not upon this road within the city. That is one reason we built our home here. The other, Slix observed; space within the walls is finite and quite limited. Thus, we made use of what was not already used by extending stone from the cliffside."
The mention of sleep draws a reserved from from Verna. "If you refer to the recent nightmares plaguing many, yes. If one cannot properly rest, one cannot refresh one's memory of magic, properly prepare artifice, nor conduct appropriate prayers."
The Arvek-nar reaches into her wicker basket and pulls out a brown parchment parcel wrapped with twine, with several wildflowers tucked under the string of it. "It's roasted beef with mustard and vegetables." The Arvek-nar offers, scratching one of her ears. "Doesn't make sense to have it go to waste. You didn't answer, unless you're saying you do want something to eat, and not that you do live here."
"I've been sleeping fine, but maybe since I'm not one of those magic folks. Though, that's concerning, really. Should send my brother a letter."
There's a soft 'heeey...!' at her testing the walls. And Slix did, indeed, determine that they were finite space. She rubs her beak. "Fair is fair..." she murmurs.
She wipes at her eyes with her sleeve before sitting cross legged. "Yeah. Right weird. Started happening 'round when I got here. Hope it ends soon."
She takes the parcel and examines it, her eyes crinkling slightly in amusement. "D'aww, that's cute, sugar. I, uh, hope that fact that I'm gettin' ta eat it doesn't mean things went bad at the temple...?" she inquires, glancing back towards where Verna's place of worship resides. This doesn't cease the eglarin from popping the package open and taking a heart chomp out of it.
Verna glances to the parcel at mention of the contents, though does not comment further. Her stomach, however, voices interest, "Rest will come. It may not arrive easily, but it will arrive. I hope that your own sleep shall be restful, and that yours continues to be." After offering these wishes to each, she excuses herself. "It seems that I should find something of an evening snack for myself, as well. I bid you both a pleasant evening, and safe travels upon the road." With that, she turns to move back towards the cottage.
"Oh, yeah, don't worry about it Slix. Nothing bad, just, Ash wasn't around. The problem with surprises is sometimes the person you're trying to surprise isn't around to do that." The Arvek-nar elaborates with a low chuckle. "Have some cake too, better than it going stale."
"Oh uh,yeah, good evening Verna." She grunts, looking a bit confused by the cleric leaving. "What, is the food I made not good enough as a snack? Figured I should offer since she probably mended every injury I got on that trip."
Slixvah makes a soft 'ah' sound as she carefully gets to her feet. "Well, that's probably the safest outcome instead of anything bad happenin'."
She glances to Verna leaving and gives a more energetic wave with a wing. "Ah. See ya 'round sugar. Thanks again!"
Back to the Nar, Slix shakes her head. "Prolly not the case, Muscles. Maybe she's got some staling bread in there she's gotta eat 'fore it goes bad? You know how Vardamites are. Got a order of stuff ta do. Ash is like that too, I noticed."
She softly chuckles, reaching out to pat her friend on the shoulder. "C'mon. Let's see if we can find a bench 'round here down the road and we can have ourselves a lil' afternoon picnic by the wayside. After that absolute brain blast of a healin' mojo, I could /absolutely/ go for some cake right now."
A beat.
"No, not that kind."
She chomps on her sandwich, a grin creasing her eyes to a squint.
