Ga'Elian Buys Potions from Mikilos
Variday, Hattanani 09, 1018. The full moon is up. The tide is low and rising. Fair weather clouds sail across the blue sky, propelled by light breezes from the west. It's warm in the sun, cool in the shade, and the air is clear and dry.
A14: Sage Orum's Plaza, University District
Approaching high noon, and the various street vendors along the sides of Sage Orum's plaza are busily engaged in their commerce. Minstrels and jugglers, too, are working the streets, trying to get their share of the shoppers' coins. A wild elf comes walking into the plaza from the north, looking both a little xenophobic about the bustling crowds, and bewildered by the city. He pauses in the middle of the square, looking variously at the City Library, the Arcanist Society building, and the Llyranesi Embassy.
Mikilos wanders his way out of the city library, muttering to himself. As many of those local to the area are wont to do. The parchments hovering around the wizard are only a little less common. Despite his view being blocked by the flying papers, the tall elf manages not only to not walk into anyone, but to avoid the path of having anyone walk into him. Years of practice have paid off.
As his eyes roam the prominent nearby edifices, the Sylvanori is struck by the emergence of a remarkable personage exiting the library. At once, he heads over to intercept him. With a respectful nod, he says, "Excuse me, Magus. I feel a bit disoriented. Could I beg your assistance?" <sildanyari>
Mikilos mms absently. "Billy, I've told you, no more extensions. You'll just have- oh! I'm sorry, you're not Billy at all. I beg your pardon, was distracted with other matters. How may I be of assistance?"
As he looks up at the face of the exceedingly tall figure before him, he answers, "I am Ga'Elian Faravanilas, a hunter of fell beasts and warden of the wilds. I have come to this place seeking to obtain some potions to assist me when facing my foes." Indicating the hovering scrolls, he continues, "You seemed to be someone who might know how I might accomplish my purposes." <sildanyari>
Mikilos chuckles softly, a casual gesture sending the parchments into a brief flurry before tucking themselves into the wizard's pack. "I am the Archmage Mikilostravia Abrioudelanarchie Mithralla, Lord of Estranillia, Builder Arcane. But 'Mikilos' is just fine for regular use. And depending upon what exactly you seek, master warden, I may be of some assistance. What sort of potion did you have in mind?" <sildanyari>
Ga'Elian relaxes a bit, then replies, "Well, I am looking for something that I can use to boost my reflexes, help me avoid the enemy's attacks, be more accurate with my bow," which he reaches up to his shoulder to pat. "Since most combat encounters I have had seem to run only a couple minutes or so, that's all I would need. I frankly, lack the coin to exchange for something more permanent." <sildanyari>
Mikilos nods thoughtfully. "There are a number of spells which could accomplish such aims, though one far more common than most, and easily enough placed into a potion. But, such elixirs are not cheap themselves. To wait and save for an enchanted belt or magical boots may be more economic in the long run. Naturally, I do not mean to discourage you, but to make sure you are aware of all options." <sildanyari>
Ga'Elian says, "Thank you, but I think I prefer to obtain the potions now, and worry about amassing the necessary treasure for the belt or boots later." He reaches up under his gambeson to extract a small bag, then hefts it, and loosens its drawstring, looking inside. Looking up again at the wizard, he says, "How many doses could I get for this?" and holds the bag out toward Mikilos. <sildanyari>
Mikilos nods, and considers a few moments. "It depends. A potion can be made with a range of potency, lasting significantly longer than the base version. But even the weakest form will still last several minutes. For the basic version, I'd charge some 18 platinum each. It looks as if you have enough for four, or perhaps five vials, I haven't a good count. Though I would recommend finding yourself a good moneyhouse and changing to some letters of credit. The plaza is safe enough, but other sections of the city, the clink of coin may attract the wrong sort of attention." <sildanyari>
Ga'Elian considers thoughtfully for a moment, bringing his arm and the bag back to himself. "I have not heard of these 'money houses' or 'letters of credit'. Such things have not entered into the trades of my tribe," he says. After a moment of further contemplation, he suggests, "What do you say to this? I can pay you this now for 5 doses of the basic potion, and the remainder when they are prepared. How long might that be?" <sildanyari>
Mikilos chuckles. "The great cities lack in a few ways, but they have an abundance of options. Such potions take about a day to make, each, so I can have five prepared for you in five days. My shop is up the mountain road, along the east side of the city. Look for the giant sword, and the shop beneath." <sildanyari>
Ga'Elian smiles. "That will be fine. Thank you." He hands the pouch over. <sildanyari>
Mikilos considers a moment. "While I don't expect any troubles, on the off chance something comes up, what is the best way to reach you?" <sildanyari>
Ga'Elian thinks for a moment, then replies, "Well, when I have had to lodge in this city before, I have found the Adventurer's Guildhall a welcoming, if strange place. I think I shall stay there until the potions are ready, but will likely take jobs for the guild in the meantime, if they should come." With a bow, he says, "May the Huntress guide you." <sildanyari>
Mikilos smiles, and nods, returning the bow. "May the Oldest watch over you." <sildanyari>
