"Well... that certainly explains a few things." Rune stares for a split second at the sight of the strange crystaline structure and the trapped demons. "I didn't know they could do that." She murmurs. Given that this obviously the source of the damage throughout the temple, and what they were sent here to help eliminate, the rogue shifts her weight enough to press her heels into the floor, zooming with preternatural speed in order to slip a Round behind the crystaline creature.

"Didn't anyone tell you that eating demons is bad for your health?" Rune shouts, trying to get the monster's attention and give her allies time to set themselves up for the fight. In order to add to this distraction, she stabs forward with one her blades, catching it in the crook of one ankle and twisting.

"Oh you have got to be kidding me, that many demons failed to kill a gem or something? Maybe good, maybe it means a giant pain, probably a bit of both." The small makari half growls loudly, already preparing a spell. One familiar to most of the group, that limbered up the adventures, making their movements quicker. This spell was followed up by another brief hiss of chanting that conjured several flaming lances which streaked towards the crystal beast, only to vanish abruptly. "Course the damn thing is magical, careful! If you try to cast something on it, it might not stick!"

Bryn stares at the giant opal, because that's just what they need: more of .. that stuff. This time, though, it helpfully crumbles all on its own! Well, until it reforms into something more mobile. So much for that happy thought. And then there's Rune.

"Ha! Stabita lot!" Her cheer expands and continues into a rousing chant as she moves up to the things non-Rune side with her curved blade at the ready. "Crack it up! Knock it down! Make it dust! Scatter it roun'!"

"...It's the *guardian* of this place," Silmeria says, eyes widening behind her spectacles. "It absorbed them to continue powering itself... That's why so few demons are actually *here!* Their rampage took them this far... but was pulled short by the very need of its defenders." Eyes flicking back and forth, she draws in a breath. "I think I may have an answer; we must purge the *demons* from this construct, leaving it with little remaining energy to power itself."

Drawing in a deep breath, she touches the barrel of her gun to her forehead, murmuring a soft prayer to Vardama... then reaches out, pointing at the diminutive sorceress, and both are enveloped in a faintly sparkling, silvery light.

Yet her prayers continue, ending in a silence that seems to birth its own power, a bubble of gray stillness that washes through the room, degrading all unholiness it touches.

Coming into a place like this, with a being so /overwhelmingly evil/, is an experience Harkashan was perhaps not entirely prepared for. There's a shock there. He doesn't have a spell of Detect Evil up, but he doesn't need it in that moment. The foul presence of that many demons /cannot/ be hidden before the Divine.

He grimaces as Rune rushes in, and reaches his hand out; "Be careful Rune!" He calls after her, before looking to the stones themselves. "I do not recognize half these demons... some of them will have been Gated here, but a large quantity will have been summoned. And the ones that get out, likely won't be able to stick a Round long. So stick with it and keep that Magic Circle close to the Golem!" Harkashan calls out to his allies as he focuses his hand to the center of the golem, finding its core, finding where its 'presence' lies...

There!

"THE DEATHSINGING DRAGON CURSES YOU! BE FOREVER RESTRAINED FROM HARMING MY ALLIES!" He demands, as flaming golden-grey shackles suddenly flood up from the g Round, and sur Round the golem, binding a Round it and becoming /engraved/ into its body as they burst to flames upon contact, Cursing its entire body to be bound severely.

Rising to its impressive full height, the opaline construct stomps a foot on the g Round once. The building almost seems to tremble with its fury. The howling demons claw and scratch at the surface, eager to escape the confines of their seeming prison. It's arm cracks and splinters as it moves, sending little slivers of opal that hit the g Round and then disintegrate as they do in a little flash of flickering magical black fire. The energy that is connecting its various pieces together becomes a raging bonfire of power rising up over it, a shield of hell flame and magic.

Having grabbed Rune, it takes a thudnerous step forward, raising its arm over its head with Rune in its palm, tendrils of magic snapping and crackling along her as it does, only for her to slip out of its grasp. Seems like it was about to throw her at the rest of you.

Chunks of Opal begin tearing free from its midsection, dropping to the g Round beside it before crackling to life and breaking apart further into miniature versions of the larger one.

It's making friends.

At first, there is a look of confusion that passes Rune's features as Silmeria explain that the golem was once some sort of guardian of this place. However, whatever it is now has certainly been infested with demonic energy, and that seems like a bad thing. "I don't think I have any way of dealing with it that is not going to include releasing some of that..."

For a moment, she second-guesses herself, until Harkashan seems to confirm that the usual method of handling things by way of the blade should be effective enough. "I hope you know what you're talking about." Of course, when it comes to creatures like this, Rune leaves it to the clerics and spellcasters to know what is what. She is just the hand of the gods... or in this case the hand of one god: Eluna.

Then, she is grabbed and as one crystalline fist closes a Round her, Rune wiggles, her corset starting to cause her to cinch together into a smaller space. Eztli's magical call seems to grease the wheels further and the rogue just slips out from meaty magical fists, though she looks a bit rumpled, crumpled, and has a few shards of crystal sticking out in uncomfortable places. "Uh... be careful." She grunts, warning the others as she plucks one out from an armpit. "I think Harkashan's magic is protecting me, but I don't think these would be good in the long term."

Then, she turns to focus on the attack, slashing at the creature multiple times with her blades, finding that most of them glance off the crystalline shell, but those that do sink in, seem to release some of that demonic energy, though it seems reduced somehow, likely by the sheer power of such a creature, or it's makeup as a golem.

"Drop her right this instant!" The smaller makari hisses, in a tone someone might take with a dog that was eating something it shouldn't be, or perhaps a swiftclaw, given the dialect. It was more likely for a swiftclaw to be eating someone it shouldn't, at least, but the magic given helped Rune to slip out with ease.

"Well, we need to kill them too? Alright, that's fine." Eztli grumbles, flicking one hand and conjuring more flaming lances that are flung at the crystal, but again they vanish into something. Eztli took a moment to curse loudly under their breath.

Bryn is momentarily confused between the warning of leaking demons and the assurance that they won't go far. Then there is a flash of worry when Rune is snatched up... that vanishes just as quick when Eztli scolds and Rune wriggles free. To slash at the thing alot.

"Ha! Ye! Ye got it! Get it right-ohfarg!" Her (inspiring) cheering hits a hiccup when more pieces crumble off and become mini-opal-demon0infused... things. "Don' worry! I got this'un!" She brings up her blade to chop at the nearest one. Twice, care of the Zoomies.

As smaller threats emerge to support the greater, Silmeria purses her lips... and as Bryn calls out his target, the Speaker nods, turning her gun on the second of the smaller constructs to emerge. Her shield hand blurs, fanning the hammer with speed born of long and deadly practice, and three times the gun peals its silver-bell time beneath the crack of gunfire.

While her target may not be *destroyed* in that momentary volley, the enchanted bullets have done grave damage.

Harkashan remains standing where he is, watching the Golem move and swing its arms. When it gets a grab of Rune, he isn't even worried. He knows exactly how slippery that lady is when wrestling. She can out-wrestle every single one of his Kin he knows of. Or at least, slip out of each and every one of their holds.

At the same time, Harkashan begins to... well... glow. Radiantly so, with divine energy. He's certainly got his charisma, but there's something to him that becomes 'more' in that moment. Ethereal visions of wings behind him. A more draconic nature that demands worship. His tail lashing and growing, his horns getting a bit bigger and more artful. Everything about him just demands...

That these Demons take /HEED/ of him.

... more chunks of opal reign off its midsection. Hardly surprising that, with the two previous ones considerable worn down and now postrate on account of Harkashan's power. Odd, that, considering it has no effect on the larger golem. Still, like before, they swirl into being, rising up on tides of old magic that flickers and seemingly wobbles.

Maeva has pasted herself against the wall behind you, eyes wide. She can fight, but she's not a fighter and this is by far out of her league.

Swatting at Rune, it's blow goes over the rogue's head this time, narrowly sure, but signs of a decisively misjudged blow that sends it leaning over-balanced to one side. It nearly topples and instead brings its fist down on the g Round, sending cracks splintering out in all directions from which fire begins to emerge. Hellfire, it seems.

It raises itsa gaze towards Harkashan, then, and seems to settle him on a target of opportunity. Opal shards spray out from its form, skimming through the air towards the cleric.

It is now Maeva's turn! Eztli is next!

Spurred on by Bryn's song, Rune seems to bounce on the balls of her feet, keeping herself mobile for the next possible grab or attack that may come her way. Though it is terribly hard not to be distracted by the flare of light that she knows has to have come from Harkashan. When she blinks, it leaves after-images there.

And then, as the floor starts to crack, she takes a half-step backwards, looking down to see fire flickering up from below. "Uh, we need to get this taken care of fast. I don't know if the floor is going to take another of those hits." Did they build this place over one of the hells or something?

Her hand reaches up, lightly brushing her amulet, "Sky-singer, guide my blade." Rune isn't usually the praying sort, but when in the temple of the goddess, sometimes it's worth calling on her power. Another series of slashes follows, with the early ones clipping away more of that dark opal, though the later ones seem to lose a bit of steam, as the rogue seems to be breathing a bit heavier from the exertion.

"My gods, what is it?" yelps Maeva, her mouth having caught up with the horror that she's comprehending. The sight of so many demons has plainly chilled the bard to her bones and she shrinks down against the wall. The tremor of its fist hitting the g Round was d efinitely enough to make her flinch, to boot. Still, there's a certain majesty unfolding behind her. She can feel a song coming on, but really, Bryn's got that covered. Instead, she begins to call on a different kind of bardic magic and opens her mouth to hit a certain pitch, which results in a few additional cracks appearing ont he golem's surface. She's helping. She's a helper.

Eztli was growing increasingly frustrated with more and more spells failing to connect. "Why don't you just burn in the hells since you've been away so long?" The sorceress curses, trying once again to envelop the golem in magical flames. This time the bolts of fire connect, melting directly through more of the strange gemstones. "No clue what this thing is, just hoping we can kill it at this point!"

GAME: Silmeria spends TWO uses of CHANNEL ENERGY.

Bryn ducks a bit reflexively when all the shards fly, though they're not at her (or at least didn't come that close). "It's falling apart fast!" Then a blink at Rune's warning and she eyes the floor. Maybe not fast enough. Back to Rune with a laugh. "Then stab it faster, ye? What're ye good for! Ye only got the one!"

Sure, it's big, but it still only counts for one, and now Bryn's got a couple new dance partners. She tries to whittle that down, but her sword goes wide. Probably karma for her teasing.

With the battlefield growing more and more crowded, and the golem apparently attempting to break the Hells *into* the Temple, Silmeria begins to worry. Not about the group dying, and the Hells being unleashed, mind, but that their exploration of the Temple may end here.

This simply will *not* do.

Her prayers to Vardama grow louder, more forceful, and the energy unleashed by the power of her faith *does* succeed in a brutal winnowing of the smaller constructs. Which is all to the good, but there remains the larger issue...

Stingers of Obsidian, fierce stone glass tears across Harkashan's armor. His divine gifts unable to prevent the harm from coming to him, but at least they lessen it. As the Sith-makar feels the fiendish influence upon the shards, he just grins; "You will gain no quarter in stepping across this treshold." He answers the demons within the Golem.

He then throws his hand out again, creating a blast of divine magic amidst the Golem's chest, creating more and more cracks. Intentionally aiming for its harder surfaces so he doesn't evaporate the thing.

Clearly, the golem has some kind of intelligence behind it, or at least some tactical programming. Yet more, small bits of the demonic-infused opal flake off it, forming new smaller ones ... while the shattered remains of the fallen are abosrbed, reused by the others like them.

Meanwhile, the broad, large gemstone full of demons has flaked away more of itself from the blows being inflicted on it too, to say nothing of the fire slagging off parts of it and Harkashan's destructive magics causing several cracks to spider-web through it.

Sensing its peril, it seems to lever its fists in a pair of mighty, overhanded blows against the floor, using the cracks there to its advantage, as wella s that they are being eaten at by demonic fire. The floor creaks, cracks, and then ...

... crumbles.

Fortunately, it's a short fall and a cloud of dust. All of you are able to stay up right and only be a little banged up. The first thing you notice is that you're in some kind of reflective pool of water, in a basin of some kind. The surface is thick and silvery. Reflective, yes.

It's quicksilver. You're standing in poison. Sure, it's poison of probably ritual significance and that at one time played a role in the ongoing worship of Eluna, or perhaps the function of the spires themselves, but it's not something you want to be immersed in. The golem has fallen here too with qamassive splash, sending a spray of quicksilver in all directions. It's on your armor. It's all over you. The golem rises to its full height once more, splintered and damaged though it may be, and prepares to engage yet further.

Maeva remains above, staring down helplesly over the edge of the hole that it made.
