  • Summary: Jinks, Halani, Munch and the black kobold go to the Sandcastle in Lake Uskvutha to tie up the Knight so she/the vouivre doesn't answer the Witch-Queen's summons for reinforcements. The black kobold desires a solo fight with the Knight, and the party agrees to let him call her out to do so. They agree, but say they'll step in if things go badly. As it turns out, the Knight is no more, but there is a 'dragon' and two princesses that wish to be rescued. The black kobold manages to stun the dragon, but Jinks' song irritates it, and one of the tail-princesses shoots at him. Munch takes this the fight becoming a free-for-all and lays into the dragon. Tail-princess Retzi heals the dragon part, causing Halani to target and stun her. The Vouivre exits the castle, revealing it's strange, snake self, and as the attacks continue, the other tail-princess Yolo, interposes to take some damage long enough for Retzi to get them out with Ethereal Jaunt. The kobold garrison meanwhile, reluctantly aided the vouivre during the battle then scattered once Yaretzi-Yolotli departed.

Lake Uskvutha, Sandcastle Island

On one corner of the lake, dark clouds cast deep shadows and drop a constant downpour. This is the location of the drowned town, Sunken Hope, or as the Kobolds call is, Uskvutha's Deep. In sight of this, but not subject to the rain, is a vaguely croissant shaped island in the middle of Lake Uskvutha. The mid-section, like the pastry, is much higher than the ends which taper into the water. They form a ridge of cliffs, overlooking a beach that curves between the ends. The island, previously unnamed, has come to be known as Sandcastle Island.

The reason is an obvious folly that backs the cliffs and stretches out towards the beach. A castle with four towers and a front wall that is oddly concave, with a front gate that arches between the two smaller towers. The larger towers back the croissant cliff-walls and are oddly close together. Each has an odd balcony and gazing window at the top, tucked under the spire. Exactly the sort that mythical princesses wait behind to be rescued.

The castle itself rests on sand and is made of sand. There is a certain, child-like aspect to its construction, as if it was created with a bucket and scaled up. The sand has also been melted into glass. Imperfect glass, opaque with many inclusions, some sections that are thick enough retaining the unmelted, original material. Lights, such as torches, and shadows of contents can still be glimpsed. The surface is both rough and runny, like candle run-off.

Directly in front of the castle on the beach is a pillar, similarly made and clearly solid. It's purpose is unknown. A defensive work in progress, the core of an emerging feature, whatever it may be it rises out of the sand.

A bell tolls. The attack on Uskvutha's Deep has started. The town is calling for reinforcements.

There are two kobolds visible on the small towers. Lookouts with a very cushy assignment. They have an umbrella and a chair to sit on and see over the walls. The flash of lenses suggests binoculars and goggles to shade their eyes from the bright sunlight that beats down on the beach.

"Lord and Mistress, a bell rings!" One of the kobold calls. <draconic>

"What? There isn't an attack scheduled today. Is there?" A deep and powerful voice rumbles from somewhere in the castle. A voice that carries half-way across the lake. "What do you see?" <draconic>

"I see... kobold squads on both sides. And gunfire. And a bear." <draconic>

"Maybe Witchy is attacking herself, or it's a test. Or adventurers. Oh! She arranged for adventurers. Everyone turn out!" A rather excited rumbling is followed by the sounds of movement, and shadows through glass walls. <draconic>

It's frustrating to miss the main event. Especially when it's been so-long coming and he was there nearly from the very beginning. Then again, it's very fair to say that some of these pieces still being on the table are Jinks' fault. So Jinks is here and not finding out why the fourth and final mercenary hasn't escaped and/or what he and the so-called (not Altima) Witch Queen have been up to.

The plan had been set on a night he was unable to get away but he was up to speed thanks to Halani. A main force is pushing into the military stronghold of Lake Uskvutha to distract the main body of kobold insurgents. Two smaller forces will split and deal with the vouivre(s) and the Witch Queen herself.

The bard would be going after the twin-minded, self-reproducing monstrosity(/ies) shacking up in the sandcastle. One had posed as a knight and its mount; a single creature playing at being two and the other was mad as a hatter. One had died and become an egg. The egg was captured. Then Jinks was almost captured by the second creature and gave up the egg's position to keep from being killed himself.

It's been long enough that the dead vouivre has likely re-hatched... though if the whispered knowledge of the Hymn have it right she shouldn't be full grown for years, yet.

The black-eyed gnome admits to being buggered if he has ANY clue who or what the princess is. Other than it being a trophy promised to the crazy abomination by the Witch Queen herself. In exchange for service.

Now the come to land on the hills behind the castle, Munch under the power of his own wings and Halani on the back of a steed of semi-solid shadow conjured by the gnome (who rides with her). The horse has an air of menace like an over-muscled and ill-tempered Clydesdale and it's made more unnerving by not making so much as a whisper when it snorts brackish smoke or shakes its head as if to whinny.

The hope is to kill the vouivre and scatter the kobolds. A theory holds that many are serving against their will; bowing to a great and intimidating power. No plan survives engagement with the enemy, however.

<OOC> Jinks says, "Jinks and Halani will be riding a Phantom Steed that can airwalk, moves 100' base, and lasts for 13 hours."

Munch is not good with stealth. Or subtle. Or discrete. His skill sets are 'break things' and 'hurt people'. But he is willing to give it a try, so when the plan calls for approaching quietly from the back, that's what Munch does. Or at least tries. "Soooo... there's a monster in the castle that needs killed, and guards that maybe are okay, just scared? ...do we need to leave the castle standing?" It's good to be clear on the details.

"These... things are especially resistant to many of my magics. They swim and can fly... but they're far from graceful in the air," Jinks continues to expound as they come to land at the backend of the island. He speaks just loud enough to be heard over the wind, careful not to shout and spoil the surprise of their arrival. "Both vouivre were savage fighters and one would breath fire. They also attempted magics to beguile Aryia."

The minstrel glances across the sunken lands of the swamp as the alarm bells ring out, sucking in a deep breath through his tiny nostrils and smoothing down his goatee. "The castle was likely built by the crazed faux-dragons. I doubt it holds any sentimental value for the kobolds. The little lizards have been drilling to be proper soldiers for months now so don't expect them to be the typical cowardly bandits that scatter at the first sign of trouble...

"If we can avoid killing the little ones, Seyardu, Loci, and the other refugees will be grateful... but don't die, please. I'm really tired of watching people I know die."

Indeed, as the adventurers approach two squads of kobolds appear along the towers and walls, moving like well disciplined units. They are equipped with armour, slings and spears. The two lookouts fold up the parasols and watching chairs. In all ways they seem professional, a miniature version of real soldiers.

To everyone except the gnome, of course.

"Teacher" The Will of Uskvutha calls across to Halani, "This one wishes to challenge the Knight in solo, honourable combat, to defend my mistress's honour. Can this one call her out?" <draconic>

Halani gives Jinks's shoulder a light squeeze before she returns to holding on to the mount. "Thump'n dump," she agrees, regarding the preference for non-lethal combat. "Think they were crazy enough to make a secret way in? Or think we gotta rush'em and run and race 'em to the voovers?" She has merely human eyes, so the distance and light work against her, but she continues to try and scan the castle regardless as they approach.

"Well, Willy.. " Halani responds after thinking for a moment. "If that's what you want, yeah? So long's it doesn't hurt the main goal... if it looks like we gotta take the knight down before we get overwhelmed, then we'll probably have to step in, yeah? An if it looks like he might kill you? You want it to get to that?"

This is the same spot they fought the vouivre before. Where Ace was rescued. The castle looks a whole lot different now.

The little maestro nods at Halani. "It's possible. They've remodeled like a busy little hive of ants but there are stone tunnels into and beneath the cliffs. Tunnels that lead out into the lake.

"When we rescued the tallman girl she'd been shoved into an oubliette and bricked away. Randy and I convinced the workers their shift was over and they left down and out; not back up."

"But they're built with kobolds in mind. Not..." Jinks gestures generally at Munch.

Munch IS a big guy. Susprisingly flexable, but metal bones only bend so much. "Could fly down to the front with Will, issue challenge, make a distraction. I'm good at distracting."

"This one desires to engage." The black kobold answers, "and the fear of death must be put from my mind, or this one would be paralyzed to act. This one has mastered appearing unexpectedly. Once Construct Munch reaches the cliff edge, this one can reach the beach." <draconic>

He sounds assured.

"Alright." Halani closes her eyes, settling back a little bit, trying to put all of the jumbled pieces together into a picture. "We're too big to use the tunnels." Fact one. "We want to engage the knight." Fact Two. "Willy wants to face it in single combat." Fact three. "The rest of them aren't gonna let us do that, unless we stop them." Fact four. "I think.. I think we drop in, start storming it. Make some noise, yeah? Call the big one out. Fight our way to a spot where we can keep reinforcements busy while Willy faces the knight." Her eyes open. "Unless someone's got a better idea, yeah?"

The castle's spires are 50' tall, ending just below the cliffs. THe four towers are 20 tall.

"I have a few spells that should be more than up to the task of diverting the lizard swarms," Jinks nods. He shifts, straightening up his fancy gold-trimmed coat of dark green and making sure his ponytail is outside of the high collar. Out comes the bow and with a little concentration his buckler fades out of the illusion hiding it and into view. The gnome pats Halani on the flank, "the mount won't survive combat but it'll come as you call. Leave it up here."

The bard hops down, the mithral chain hidden beneath his fine clothes issuing the subtlest of jingling. "If it's looking bad we split and flee individually. We all have methods of escape so just worry for yourself."

Finally, his black eyes turn down to squint at the Will. "I imagine your dragon master would prefer to not have you die beneath the usurper's hordes... but you do as you will." He shifts his quivers one last time and starts heading forward.

"Remember, kill as few as you can," he squints at Munch. "Leaders first. Break their morale."

Munch nods. "I'll be scary." Of that there is little doubt.

"This one agrees with the plan" The black kobold says, leaning forward as he rides on Munch, eager with anticipation. As the golem gets closer to the spires, he simply vanishes. <draconic>

It's at this moment that the Sandcastle garrison spots the group at the top of the cliff. "Lord and Mistress! Adventurers! From behind." <draconic>

"Oh, are we going to be rescued? Rescue me! Rescue me!" A high pitched voice squeals from the north western spire.

"No! Pick me! Pick me!" A similarly eager voice comes from the south-west. A voice oddly familiar to the gnome, even if it lacks a certain sibilation.

The black kobold appears, his back to the odd beach pillar. His hands spread, "Knight of the Black Rose! I am the Will of Uskvutha. You ursup her lands. Face me in honourable, single combat, to feel her wrath! Lose and depart her lands" <draconic>

"Wait... that's our rescuer?"

A loud, ominous reply comes from inside the castle. It would seem the odd shape of the construction amplifies the voice. Quite a bit of acoustic care was taken to produce that effecct. "You are mistaken, but don't worry. We can sort it out as we fight." <draconic>

Munch steps up to the cliff edge, watching the kobold's Challenge, and offers a brief roar of his own. "Anybody wants to join the duel, I join too." Casually, the golem unslings his Axe, the adamantine blade bigger than most kobolds. In the arc, the weapon happens to catch part of the cliff wall... and breaks the rock without slowing. Just imagine what it would do to a poor solider when moving at full force. Scary.

"Lord and Mistress, what do we do?" One of the kobolds on the north-western wall shouts at the towers. <draconic>

"Hold," Rumbles the reply, "So, that black kobold has friends. If they interfere, attack them. If they don't, and you want to, attack them anyhow. Don't engage the black kobold." <draconic>

"Sa!" The kobolds are loading slings, but nothing more.

For the moment.

The kobolds on the South-east towers, look very relieved at that order. They're all staring at the rock that falls off the cliff.

"Kobolds of Uskvuthajdupr, we come to liberate you!" The glittering maestro has taken to the air and flies in the open above and between the two towers. His black eyes survey the assembled reptilian forces with a look of muted benevolence. "We understand the reign of the false Queen has forced many of you into service you do not desire. We see you in thrall to mad creatures posing to be dragons, knights, and princesses."

The blue runes across the compound pieces of his enchanted bow dance like light reflecting off glacial ice. The blackwood and steel is matte and dull in comparison. His longcoat in Coyote's colors flaps chaotically around his dangling legs.

"The Witch Queen dies today. Uskvutha's Deep will be liberated. Those that flee now will not be attacked. Those that stay risk an abrupt meeting with their dark patrons." <draconic>

<OOC> Cryosanthia says, "Okay, The Will had Barkskin up, as it lasts 120 min,"

"As it should be. Face me!" The black kobold demands. Earlier, as they crested the cliffs he centred himself, drawing on his energy within and strengthening his scales. His hide became much like his dragon mistress', thick, nigh impenetrable.

He drops into a horse stance, his tail swaying, then still as he concentrates further on the techniques he has learned. He is a little diamond in the rough, and now, as resilient as one also.

<OOC> Halani will activate sudden speed as a swift and move to.. I'm not sure where I can move to. hm.
GAME: Halani spends ONE point of KI POOL.
<OOC> Halani says, "Can I get on to the north tower, 10,8 or so?"
<OOC> Halani says, "maybe 11,7 instead. Fine if it's in range of the kobolds."

Halani nods to Jinks, then casts a doubtful look at the shadowy destrier. "Stay." she tells it, before hopping off.. somewhat less gracefully than the gnome. "Stay," she repeats, pointing at it.. then turns away, fully expecting the thing to disappear the moment her eyes are off of it. When she does turn around.. everyone has already run (or flown) off ahead! "What.. hey!" She takes a step, scowls.. then closes her eyes for a heartbeat as she, too, looks within to center herself.. then her eyes open and she takes off at a run, jumping from the cliff to one of the towers.

The gnome is heard. All the kobolds look up, staring in his direction. The south-eastern squad, already shaken, seem on the verge of putting down their weapons. Instead, all of them play it safe, remaining in place, saying nothing. It's hard to trust a mortal enemy, even when he's exceptionally persuasive.

So persuasive, there are responses from the towers. "Oh I want to be liberated too!"

"Liberate me! Liberate! Mark the date. Tryants shall defenestrate!"

"Retzi, Yolotli, shut up. No one is liberating you today." The deep voice rumbles, followed by the sound of crushing footsteps.

"There is no Knight. Adventurers killed her. Instead, you'll face me. Yaree. The Dragon." She bellows, and emerges.

A huge, green dragon which would just barely fit under the archway. Enough to show her head and forequarters, her wings free and spreading.

One large eyeball rotates up to stare at Jinks. "You."

"I'll have you know I'm a very beneficent ruler. I eat one kobold a week, at the most, and only if they offend me. My sister paid dearly for this island, with her life."

"It was worth it!" The princess in the south-east tower shouts.

"Quiet Yolotli." The dragon's head turns towards the black kobold. "Witchy said Uskvutha owned this island and she could deed it to me. So take it up with her. IF YOU SURVIVE!"

The dragon breathes, a huge wash of flame that shoots out across the beach and splashes over the wide pillar.

The entire beach is blanketed in flame. Yet, after, the Will of Uskvutha is untouched. "The first lesson. That does not work on me."

A kobold who lives with a dragon would be skilled at dodging a breath weapon. In the black kobold's case however, it was a technique he recently learned. "Thank you teacher."

GAME: Munch casts Blur. Caster Level: 7 DC: 14

Munch murmurs softly, and his tiny scales start to molt, falling away in a dusty shower of metallic green, leaving fresh scales behind, many of which also fall away. The dusty shower of fallen scales swirls and floats, hovering around the golem in a small Blurry cloud. Buzzing softly, he peers at the towers. "Don't think I've met a princess before. Met the dwarven ruler, but not sure if he was a king, of chief, or what. Pretty sure didn't meet his kids." The metal man eyes the towers, but is distracted by the arrival of The Dragon. "Oooo, a fellow greenie!"

The kobolds remain uncertain, looking at the twin spires, down at the dragon, at the black kobold which has survived unimaginable flame, and the adventurers.

"Tell them what sort of ruler I am" The Dragon Yaree rumbles.

"Not bad!" "Good!" "Very Good!" "Excellent!" "Amazing!" "Awesome!" "Can't complain!" Several hissy voices chime in, followed by one dissenter, "I wouldn't mind being liberated."

"That's it, you're on the offending list. I'm eating you next." Yaree threatens. <draconic>

The gnome's eyes narrow when the vouivre bursts from the sandcastle and into view. "Me," he growls back. A bit braver than last time (it helps that certain people are here, he's flying, and the 'dragon' is currently more interested in the Will).

"This creature is not a dragon. Green dragons do not issue gouts of flame. It's a crazed abomination with its mad nieces posing as princesses." The rings on his free hand flash and sparkle as he pushes them through the air, teasing at the Weave until the stands appear. "Flee and none will be eaten. We will topple this reign." <draconic>

"It's no dragon. The 'princesses' are the spawn." The gossamer strands thread between bard, monk, and machine, knitting them together as they twinkle and glow. The gnome taps out a rhythm and the world seems to slow for the trio.

Then he begins to sing, a full-throated and long, wordless note sweeping through the island and kicking up the loose sand. The Hymn pulls from back- to foreground and bolsters the quartet of insurgents.

"My turn." The black kobold states, then moves with blinding speed, launching into a flying kick that smacks right on the dragon's nose. He lands, and follows up with a flurry of blows. <draconic>

There's a sizzle and smoke as each one lands. The dragon's scales burn, in some cases completely through, searing the skin beneath and causing the blood to bubble forth in a frothing mess that splashes on the sand.

It's ferocious enough that the dragon blinks, her head rearing back.

<OOC> Halani will go to the edge of the tower to watch the fight, maybe throw Will some advice. 
<OOC> Halani will keep an eye on any funny business.

Normally Halani would be chewing at the bit to get into the fight. And as her fingers flex, the urge is certainly there. But oddly the urge is minor.. more of a light itch she can ignore. The Will isn't exactly her student... they sparred once, she won, she gave him advice he asked for. But still.. the interest in seeing how well he fares seems to outweigh her own desire to pit herself against the challenge. So, with the kobolds, at least for this moment, not seeming interested in trying to kick her off of the tower, she moves to the edge so she can watch the kobold's fight with the dragon. Once there, she spends a little more time surveying the grounds, as well.. looking at the various kobold groups and what she can see if the princesses. Foul play is always a possibility.

"Don't get eaten, Willy!"

A crazed abomination with its mad nieces posing as princesses.

The gnome's words spread. He and Halani have the right angle to see into the spires.

There are two princesses, indeed. They stand right at the balcony. The Knight of the Black Rose styled herself as a sith'makar. The only hint of this is the south-east princess, Yolotli, has some green scales on her cheeks and reptilian eyes. In all other aspects, she's elven. Sylvan to be exact. Sharp featured and fey in ways that are unmistakable. She has on a tall, conical hat with a train. Exactly the sort 'real' fictional princesses wear. A dress with a Rose pattern is another subtle hint.

A dress that clearly is a costume, overtop of plate armour.

The northwest princess is similar, her hair a slightly darker shade of green. Her hat equally comical and conical. She has plate also.

The kobolds sharing the tower with Halani glance nervously in her direction, and down at the dragon. A few are switching from slings back to spears. They all are very hesitant.

There's one, that's clearly a commander, possibly even the 'I'd like to be liberated guy', that is very, very obviously reaching for a sword. A motion so slow it's glacial.

It's clearly obvious that the Kobolds are really, really, really conflicted and don't want to fight, but they've been ordered to so they might make an effort.

RUUAAGH!

The dragon huffs. "Retzi! Yolo! Get in the game. Retzi give me a Blessing of Ferver, Yolo use your bow."

"Troops, target the gnome and anyone that interferes. Shut down that song and spell casting." <draconic>

"But we're princesses! We need to wait to be rescued." Retzi complains.

"That pretending nonsense got Yolo killed." Yaree roars, "this is our island, fight like you mean it."

"I don't want to die!" Yolo wails, pulling out her bow.

"Stop distracting!" The dragon roars again, her focus returning to the black kobold. She bellows, "MY TURN!" <Draconic>

So, the dragon and the princesses don't seem to be on the same page. At least one of them has died before, and now she seems fully adult, somehow. Not a child. So, she might surrender instead of dying. No telling what the other princess or the dragon will do.

The dragon unleashes its own flurry of attacks, a snap with a crunch so loud some sand shakes off the castle, two claw swipes the leave furrows in the beach, and a battering with it's wings, largely to no effect.

The claws land, slicing through the diamond hard hide of the black kobold. It still seems he's given better than he got, though.

There's a >schnick< and a tearing sound. It's loud, very loud, but it's not entirely clear what has happened.

The princesses' dresses have ripped off, spikes tearing them to shreds. Retzi starts chanting, casting something which is followed by a magical burst of success centred on Yaree and the two Kobold Kommanders.

Yolo draws her bow. Yolo shoots at Jinks, and hits twice.

Munch buzzes. "Jinks' right, I hadn't noticed. Greenies breathe acid." The scaled golem eyes the gnome reproachfully. "Not that there's anything wrong with being a fake dragon, ya know." The golem hops down off the cliff, wings absorbing some of the fall, but still landing with enough force to crack the stone. Now, perspective is a funny thing. Things far away look small, and larger as they get close. But Munch has gotten only some closer, and a lot bigger. Thirteen foot tall bigger, carrying an axe with a haft like a tree trunk. Swirling scales shift, forming several floating 'plates' in addition to the blur cloud. His muscles start to bulge and steam, threaten to rip themselves apart with raw power. The scary factor is not going down. "Yeah, so, I'ma kill the fake dragon now, and anyone who gets in my way, okay? Okay." Message delivered, he leaps to the sand, ready to deliver some pain.

The kobolds standing near Halani grimace at her. Not a threatening expression, more of a 'don't want to really do this' fear. They've been told to target the gnome, and they do, drawing slings and firing upwards.

He's nearly out of range. Nearly. Close enough to feel several painful stings.

"Okay boss." The leader of troop 1 has a composite bow, and sends two arrows towards the gnome as well. This kobold is uncannily accurate. <draconic>

The missiles that flew true manifest improvised staccato in the gnome's song. The beats hitting harder as the melody takes shape in the world. Blood runs freely down his sleeve, over his jewels, and onto his bow. His kind look is well past strained now.

"Last. Chance." He challenges between rests. Gnimble fingers wave through the air again, twisting in a tight spiral until a shadow stretches across the southern troupe. Its reach spills wide before it bursts with a foul cough, spewing up blackish-green smoke that chokes the air in a cloud of gaseous and rancid pea soup.

The kobolds are overtaken, retching, choking, and upchucking their lunches.

A quiet woosh and the gnome is no longer in the open to be harried with missile fire. His song continues, however, spilling out from between the towers. <draconic>

"Uskvutha does not want you here." The Will of Uskvutha says, drawing back a fist and punching the dragon right on the nose. Between her nostrils, just above her upper lip. Amazingly, his fist sinks as if he punched her in a heat pit. She crosses her eyes to look at the blow. <draconic>

No. Her eyes cross because she's fainted, dropping suddenly to the ground.

The black kobold follows up with another unrelenting flurry that sizzles and hisses with each strike. The air stinking much like the cloud to the south-east.

Except, he staggers back after his onslaught, covered in small, bleeding wounds.

"How...?" He gasps. <draconic>

<OOC> Halani is going to use Dimensional Dervish. With sudden speed still active, she has 110 move, so can warp up to a total of 220 feet, minimum 5' increments. So. Gonna zip up and try to pop yolo with a stunning fist, then zip down and go after the red leader who hit Jinks with the rest of her flurry. First attack on the leader (which will be her second attack) will be a sweep kick. Starting with the second attack on the leader, she'll gain flanking bonuses from Dimensional Savant. All will be non-lethal.

Halani tilts her head a little bit at the commander of the closest group of kobolds, seeing the slow reach for the sword. Then she shakes her head at him, wagging a finger. But as she does so, arrows suddenly darken the sky.. well, darken the mostly dark sky.. and she sighs. "You really shouldn't have done that..." she says, then steps backwards off of the tower. And blinks. She's in front of Yolo, the archer princess, and her hand snakes forward, two stiff fingers hitting the vouivre spawn right between the eyes. And she blinks. She's behind the kobold archer leader, her heel collapsing his knee.. and even as he begins to fall, she blinks. Then she's in front of him. Behind him again. At his side. Above. So quick it seems like she completely surrounds him all at once, a foot or a fist lashing out with each blink. And then she's standing at the edge of the tower, her back to the kobold who is now, thanks to her last kick, sprawled out on the sand below. "LEAVE THE GNOME ALONE!"

Only then does she notice the streaks of red on her arm, slowly oozing blood. There's a confused frown, then narrowed eyes looking up at the tower.

A cacophony of coughing comes from the south-eastern battlements. Blinded and wretching the kobolds flee.

But they don't break.

Lost in the fog, they reach and find scales, then drop to grab the tail of a soldier beside them. They know their sandcastle too, and their commander takes them inside, down and out to the beach. A single file of soldiers who seem to know what they're doing even as they're puking their guts out.

"What the scales! A kobold dropped Yaree? How? With no weapons?" Retzi gasps, her eyes going wide.

"They're monks." Yolo barely murmurs an answer.

"The guys in the robes with the tonsure haircut?"

"No, they fight unarmoured and unarmed."

"How is that different from every beast that walks and flies? Never mind." Retzi waves a hand dismissively, intoning words of power.

The dragon's wounds heal, she seems pristine, her eyes open and she rises with a roar, turning on Munch who stands nearby, "STAY OUT OF OUR FIGHT." <draconic>

Yolo also, blinks, able to see and back to fighting form. "I'll shoot at you then." She aims at Halani.

The effects of the Black Kobold's punch must linger, as the dragon's attacks on Munch are largely ineffective. Only a single claw manages to rip across the front of the construct.

Yolo, as stated, shoots at Halani, and her first arrow hits. The rest go wild.

"Nah, lost your chance when you attacked the gnome. Battle Royal now. With fake royals." The golem roars, his face splitting open, row upon row of adamanite fangs inside quivering in anticipation. The massive axe whooshes in the air, but holds more power than accuracy, most of the attacks going wide. Blood still flies, and the quivering fangs snap loose a length of hide, the metallice whirring increasing in pitch as the target hurts back.

The kobolds on the northeast tower stare, jaws dropped as Halani makes short work of their commander and dumps him over the side.

Nervously, and reluctantly, they fire with many a sidelong glance at Halani who is just there. Slings and no arrows of outrageous fortune rain down on the golem and make a few solid dents.

The song billows out from the safe shadows between the two towers and sand and glass. Jinks bleeds from a variety of wounds but still manages to keep his place in the air above the ground and takes no small amount of satisfaction from the sound of kobold distress. Their inability to see reason was stoking old biases already made hot by his assembled hurts.

Suddenly, his form is outlined in the dark space, the runes on his bow flaring to life as a quintet of arrows whistles through to harry the vouivre. Four of the little needles bury themselves deeply but the last breaks off the hard scales of the creature.

"... I can't rescue you while the drake still lives," he gasps between verses. <sylvan>

"This one has made his point." The black kobold states, remaining in a stance, but holding his attack as the dragon turns on Munch. "They will destroy you now." <draconic>

"Typical adventurer. Attack me in my home. Make a promise then break it when it's convenient. Just you wait." Yaree retorts, seemingly ignoring the black kobold for now. "Why don't you check on your friend?" <draconic>

Across the lake at the shore, the bell for summoning reinforcements continues to toll.

Munch says, "I'm Munch. Munch TerrorMaw, The Golem Who Eats. You can tell them who killed you when you reach the afterlife. There's lots sent before, and will be many after."

Halani twists as arrows fly her way from Yolo's tower, one coming a little too close for comfort as its razor edge draws a line of blood across her cheek. The islander, slightly battle crazy as she is, grins up at the 'princess', pulling her arm across the wound. "Better!" she calls up loudly, then jumps....

And folds space. Once again Halani practices her ancient monk techniques of being in multiple places at one time. Retzi's anatomy is odd, to say the lease, but there are many similarities among most living creatures for their lines of spirit and energy.. and Halani jabs one of them on Retzi, temporarily stunning the creature as she zips over to Yolo's tower. A snap kick at Yolo's lower body hits, but fails to trip her up. Halani has no time to really consider why, howver, as she continues to blink back and forth between the two towers, using her fists and feet as tools of diplomacy.

Tools that are soon bloodied shredded. By the time she stops jumping, balancing on Retzi's balcony railing, the monk is showing clear signs of pain, with her fists, lower arms and legs all showing signs of nasty cuts.

The south tower kobolds are not looking well. Nor smelling, nor sounding it. They are covered with flecks of vomit, often each other's, and the lingering residue of the Stinking Cloud.

Still in a train, hand to tail, their leader drags them further south, to the swamps. ">cough< Wash... >cough< ... Try to wash it off!" <draconic>

There's a lot going on. Some reactions are delayed. The one when Yaree notices one of her kobold squad leaders is flat out on the beach. "Jak! Stop sunbath... wait. Did you throw my Kobold off the tower? They're not cats! They can't survive that."

The dragon takes a pounding from Munch, "I do the eating around here and you weren't invited to dinner!"

"So you can't eat him." Yolo shouts down.

"Wait, what? Okay, you are invited to dinner. OW. Retzi! Get something more on the field! I can't keep taking more damage than you're healing. Turn the..."

The monk's dimensional dervish draws a stare of awe from the Black Kobold, who nods approvingly.

"OW!" "Ow!" "Ow!" "Ow!" "Uhhhh..." Echoes back and forth between the two towers as both princesses are pummelled, and Retzi is stunned.

"Retzi's out!" Yolo's voice is high and quick. "We're going to die! I'm going to die again. I don't want to die."

"I'm. Aware." Yaree growls, suddenly surging forwards. A huge mass of green scales emerging from the castle archway. As she moves, she snaps at Munch, biting into the golem and holding just long enough to make the point that she could have brought him along with her.

Maybe. After some wrestling.

The princesses are equally and suddenly yanked out of sight, dropping down into the towers as if they were flushed. The reason why becomes immediately apparent.

The Vouivre is huge, double the size of the one that pretended to be a Knight. Its forequarters blend into a thick, snake-like body where it should have hips, that continue on into two immense tails the ends of which are two regular sized humanoids. They make for very unusual rattles. Slightly disoriented rattles, from the punches and the plunge.

The vouivre lands on the immense pillar on the beach. It's a perch.

"Yolo, keep your sister alive, and figure out how she's doing that teleporting!" Yaree roars, facing the beach, the castle, and the adventurers. "You're in my house and I don't like it!"

"Now is this only about the Kobolds or are you going to claim this island is your ancestral home or soemthing?"

Munch buzzes happily, despite the damage he takes. "I assure you, you -can- take more damage than she's healing, and -I- can take more damage than you're dealing. You -could- run, but then I'd just chase you." The metal man blinks as the 'dragon' moves away, taking a swipe with his axe as is goes. "What did I -just- say?" There's a moment of confusion as the full monster is reveiled, but only a moment. Running after, the golem makes a vicious two-handed swing with his huge axe, aimed towards the 'dragon' neck, only to find Yolo sweeping into the path and taking the vicious hit. "...I am conflicted about this."

The Kobolds on the north tower take in the changing situation. Several of them look over at their commander, sprawled on the sand. The others are staring up at Halani, balancing on one foot on the balcony, in a lotus pose. The remainder are watching Munch tear in to Yaree.

No, into Yolo.

There are a few murmurs, "On no, I liked her." Mostly they silently come to the same decision, and quietly withdraw into the castle. <draconic>

A volley flies from the shadows between the towers, most of the missiles landing ineffective in the sound around the pillar or batted aside and however many conglomerated limbs. The singing persists, too.

"Is it too late to come on home"

"Can the city forgive, I hear its sad song..."

The black kobold turns around and glares up at the dragon-thing looming on the pillar. One little kobold, lost in the immense shadow. "You cower. You flee. You are not worthy of this place." <draconic>

Halani has quite the view, balanced upon the balcony's railing as she is. Not that there's much place else for her to stand, with the inside of the 'towers' being revealed to be gaping holes going straight down into what's probably water. Rather than chase after the 'dragon' and its.. uh... princess tails... Halani brings her hands together, index fingers touching.. then moveing them through a series of sharp, precise gestures. A shadowy aura starts to slowly build about her.

The other squad of kobolds, the wretched chain of wretched little lizards, continues to stagger in a long line until they reach the marsh. Each wades in, attempting to clean off, even going so far as to pull up clumps of moss and eat them wash the taste and smell out of their mouths.

The 'dragon' takes a battering from Munch, or would have if it weren't for her agile tail soaking it up. Not that the tail, Yolo, seems all that happy. "Urrrrrg. I surrender. I surrender. Chop me off so I can live my separate life."

"Stop being idiotic Yolo. Retzi, are you back yet?" The dragon rumbles, leaning down from her perch, turning her attention to Munch, "So you don't want to talk. Fine, here's something to remember me by."

She snaps! She claws! She buffets with her wings. It's a furious display, even though only a claw and one wing hit. Although that wing hit was hard enough to knock the golem's audio out.

All he sees is a dragon maw moving as she says, "If you aren't going to listen, you don't need to hear!"

"It's bad." The clerical tail-princess says, "Blood Crow Strike, she'll be able to hit us from a distance as well as teleport so we can never catch her."

"Fine! Get us out of here." Yaree growls, turning to face the black kobold. "This is still my place and you should serve me. You're an exceptional specimin. We'll talk when I'm back."

And with that said, she vanishes. They vanish. However that works for a vouivre, she's gone.

Halani's eyes, darkened by the magic she is summoning, tinted by a shade of red, tighten when the creature disappears. Then she puts her hands together, palms flat, returning the power she'd been gathering to its balanced state. "Heya! The creepy dragon monster's gone, yeah? It ran away! Think it's time you did some thinking on whether you want it to be your boss, yeah?"

Munch defends himself, but doesn't seem too concerned until his audio gets knocked out. "....what?" The golem buzzes quietly, blinking when the monster disappears. "...WHAT?!" Peering around a moment, massive wings flap, stiring up a shower of blown sand as Munch launchs himself into the air, turning in a tight circle as he spins around. "I DON'T SEE THEM AROUND!"

Munch is totally the type who talks louder when he can't hear.

Halani's question falls on deaf ears. Munch's certainly, but the kobolds it is directed towards are either busy throwing up and taking emergency mud baths, lying unconscious on the beach, or ... somewhere.

The North tower kobolds went down and never came out. They may be swimming away underwater even as she speaks. Or will be, once they squeeze through some cracks.

Munch exhales a cloud of hot gasses, deflating like a baloon. Likely best he's up where no one is going to inhale any of that. Like a baloon, he sinks back to the ground, sorta saggy and deflated. "I THINK THEY ALL RAN AWAY."

"The foe has fled. Yes." The black kobold says, bowing to Halani again. "Teacher, show me how you do that. This one is also injured." <draconic>

Halani hops own from the tower, wincing a little bit as she looks over her own wounds again. "Me too, Willy. Me too." She holds her arms up, streaked in both dried and fresh blood.. her leggins have taken on the dark red-brown stain of bleeding underneath as well. "That last trick, though?" She grins. "Maybe another time, yeah? Gotta keep some surprises."

The black kobold nods once, and falls in beside Halani.

The South tower kobolds emerge from the swamp and tentatively return. One of them walks up to Halani, "Is what you said true? We don't have to stay here? And you'll defeat the Witch-Queen?" <draconic>

Across the water, the bell still tolls for reinforcements.

The kobolds glance at each other, and across the lake, "It's safer here. We'll stay until we're sure she's not coming for us." <draconic>

The way he says it, he means the Witch-Queen.
