- Time: September 8th, 2022
- Summary: Skiel makes good on his promise of showing Yarezti some potential campsites for her to make a more permanent residence among the wilds as best he can with a hangoverfrom the party in the city. He presents one spot upon a hill with a lone outcropping in the woods with a creek down the hill. She finds it beyond suitable, and they discuss what the camp should have, as well as how far away it is from civilization and friends.
- Wilderness, somewhere, midday.
Sun filters through the canopy overhead, twigs snapping underfoot rolling fields of mature, full trees pass on by. Foot tracks and talons mark a trail of two large figures. One of them a shiny silver scale. Spots around his eyes and snout have a fading gold paint, and a slight grimace twists it as the light hits his face occasionally. There's an addition to his medal, a red and gold ribbon with a white stripe under it. "Ugh, Dragon father, could you... hide from thissss one for now?" he grumbles, rubbing the side of his head. A glance to his companion. "We ssshould be near a sssite that may work for you, Godclaw."
"Stay out too late, Silver?" Yar asks, mused as she walks along with the Makari through the forest. Her eye keeps flashing to that ribbon with a smirk, nodding to herself at something. "It must be fun night if even one like you holds head." she teases, looking upward through the trees.
"Many people crowded the hall. Yar heard talk of it, but it was too loud a place. Sorry, Silver. Yar'd of liked to see you honored." she admits, shrugging as she continues to plod along to Skiels course. "Once allowed to be leaving the city, hard to stay there for too long."
Skielstregar lets out a tiny growl of a grumble. "Thissss one danced. In front of all. Drank. A. Lot." A sigh leaves him, cold breath spilling forth. "It wassss fun. This one retold their tale. It is fine, they understand. They are jussst sssurprised and honored to be recognized. It makes the relationship between Kin and ssssoftskinsss feel much stronger." He smiles weakly.
"It was a fun, reinvigorating time. But they expect much ribbing from sssister and Chiuaa." Their trek slowly goes upwards, a hill building gently.
Yaretzi laughs, nodding her head. "Well, none from this one." Yar comforts, smirking as she takes that change in grade with stride. Literally, becaue they're walking. "It is good to have relationship with those, but Silver seems to have no issue with those from city. Good with softskins."
"Never asked, but what is medal for? Known you transported some, but did one fight battles?" Yaretzi asks curiously, something Skiels said causing her to ponder.
Skielstregar chuckles, letting out a sigh of relief as the grade change makes the light lesson. "Thisss one doesn't mind it, they mean well. Ah, yesss, thisss one wasss with sssoftskin tribesss for a while, used to speaking with them. Ssstill find them odd from time to time."
The question makes him perk up. "Thisss one fought quite a number of undead. Wightsss. Nearly died from them. Thisss one got the medal from the city for being one of the people warning of the large undead worms rapidly approaching the city. It wasss, very difficult. Close. But we did it."
"Ah, Yar has much respect for that. Close, or not." Yaretzi's dark glance flicking to the Sith-Makar with a large grin. "Warning, and fighting wights. Wild things, though Yar can believe. City is busy place."
"We are odd, but so are Makari." Yaretzi muses. "Though this one hopes not too odd." keeping pace, and turning her glance forward. "It is good place, and Yaretzi likes the company she finds."
Skielstregar rumbles a little laugh, but winces afterwards. "Thank you. If we did not do our deed, we would be dire ssstraights now. This one is happy the torch could be passed to burn out the scourge."
Now that gets a happy rumble from him. "Everyone isss odd in their own way. If not, then we'd be boring. But, none too odd. At least none more than this one. It isss a good place."
The hill levels out slighty, save for some of the terrian growing to a rouge outcropping of rocks that spike from the ground. Skiel slows, and gestures outward. "Thisss isss one of many spotsss they have found. There isss a creek down the hill that way that connects to a hunting trail," he points.
Yaretzi pauses, eyes eager to take in the bits of jutted earth and rock that make up the outcropping. They linger, passing down towards the direction of the creek that Skiel's spoke of. "It is good spot." she utters, moving to check on other things, peering at spaces between stones, and truly inspecting it as camp. "It's very good." she says, a hand used to dust foliage from a big rock. "Lots to work with."
Yaretzi does seem to like this place, her pack placed on the ground, and a smile flashed for Skielstregar. "What is this pretty spot? You sure Yar can take it?" raising a brow with a smirk. "It... will take much work, but it will be nice. It could be good camp. Big gift to share." she notes.
rSkielstregar rests against one of the many trees that dot the hilltop, arms folded over one another as a proud grin platers his face. "Thissss one isss glad you approve!"
The smirk flashed his way makes him blink. "Thisss one thinksss Godclaw can take many thingsss. It will take much work, but they believe you can easssily deal with all of thisss in time, build endurance. Big gift, easssy to ssshare."
He smiles. Blinks again. Then squints, scratching his chin.
"Places to make camps in Jungle foughten over. Some tribes have ancestral claims, others taken by feud, or gifted as appeasement." Yaretzi's words coming as she begins to appraise, and think over the spot as she talks. "To have place, share hunting, and grow... it is what Yar has wanted. Walls made Yar feel stifled, contained. She needs grass, and horse. Hunt, and air."
"No small gift such a spot is, Skielstregar. You and kin are always welcome to call, and find if there is need." Yaretzi's words wistful, a soft smile finding her lips.
"Do not think I can't see that smile and thought behind those eyes." Yaretzi says, peering back with a smirk. "Crimson Pen has taught Yar much of the double edges a word can wield."
Skielstregar ambles over, sticking to the shade as he goes in an arc as he listens to Yaretzi. "Thisss one underssstands. They themselvesss could not stay in the wallsss of the sssoftskinsss for too long. From... what they remember of the jungles, their tribe wasss peaceful with thossse around. Did not deal with sssuch trials asss you."
He comes to a stop, a hand reaching out to rest against the jutting stone. "That iss welcome to hear. They will keep thisss in mind when around thisss ssspot in the future." A shrug. "Thisss one thinks you would have found it eventually, they jussst sped that up isss all." A smile.
Then a blink. "What?" he croaks, resting against hard surface. "Thisss one isss confusssed? What do you ssspeak of? Passsion book hasss no bearing here? They were merely ssspeaking that one sssuch asss yourself could take many thingsss, be it poundingsss from othersss, felling and handling wood, or going fissshing."
He stares. "Wait." Icicles immediately form on his face.
Yaretzi presses a tongue to the inside of her cheek. There is a search for words, but it's hard. The icicles, and the realization of some things were too much for the human to ignore. She's laughing, enough that she sits on a rock, and just stares after the Makari. "Yar is sure she could. All those things... though without taint of passion and pen. Yar knows what Skiel's meant. Though too funny things were to not tease." her cheeks flushed, and a shrug given.
"Yaretzi hears it grows cold here. How cold?" Yaretzi says, switching topics.
Skielstregar stares directly into the ground, his face in his hands, head shaking. He's embarrassed as all hell, but there's a rumbling of laughter that vibrates in his chest. "... thisss one isss terrible at realizing sssuch wordsss second meaningssss. They end up walking right into them."
Good humored about it, at least. A sigh leaves him, with it, thawing ice dripping from his visage. "Cold enough to snow. Packs hard. Blizzard... ssssometimesss. You will have to prepare. But not so cold that thisss one feelsss it, but, to be fair, they are a terrible judge of the cold. They sleep in the snow." Tail swish.
"Snow is only known of." Yaretzi admits. "It means summer work, and..." an eye going skyward, and a sigh. "The season already grows late. It will be coin to pay for such things this year." a shrug again from her seat "Yar is glad she saved some of earnings."
"It is funny. Do not have upset at self. Friends tease, poke, and play. Intentional or not, Yar knows Skielstregar's meaning." Yaretzi assures. "His stance is clear, Yar is not wooing."
Skielstregar ponders for a moment, then places his hands on his hips. "Thisss one can help!" he declares. "Thisss one hasss magicsss that can make one grow big. Giant proportions. Makes it very easy to sculpt the land! Maybe can make ssshelter before cold setsss in!"
There's a little laugh. "Yesss, they do, and dessspite how embarsssed thisss one isss at timesss, they find it in good fun."
He holds up a hand and shakes his head. "Thisss one completely underssstands that Godclaw isss poking fun. Your ssstance isss clear on sssuch thingssss, and you have even met thisss one'sss life-mate. Worry not."
"Yar has, and she is a mighty force that will be glad to be met again." Yaretzi notes with fondness, standing and looking back over the forest before them. "It will be fun to make, and shape. A good pit, some places to dry and smoke foods." the woman pondering. "What does Skielstregar think? What makes good camps?"
Skiel rumbles warmly at that. "Perhapsss ssshe will stumble upon thisss camp during their hunting tripsss with Wyrmere."
He looks back over the forest. "Yesss, lotsss of open air to easily vent the smoke away." He blinks, then tilts his head to the side. "What makesss a good camp? Hrm..."
The makari looks up to the jutting stone. "A good camp needsss a comfortable, dry place to sleep, free of wind and water. The sssstone here could provide a good wall and backbone for the entire campsssite."
"Those are good thing for camp, but there be things to make. Trade, and stuff Yar can not use alone." Yaretzi says, getting to her point for the moment. "It is good spot for summer hunts, and then to hide during winter." smirking, and looking back the Makari. "It would be good to not hunt alone. Company would be welcome, even Wyrmere when it is time. Funny creature that it is. Loyal, and cunning." she notes. "Yar's horse is disciplined... but stubborn." speaking of the animal, despite not riding it often.
"Ah," Skiel rubs his neck. "Thisss one trades firewood and whole logs to Wildpointe and gives it to Mictlan often. Hunting should be good for trade for pelts and food. Especially with people moving back to their homes, fields have not been tended. Food will be needed, and warm clothes."
He laughs. "Yesss, Wyrmere is an interesting creature for certain. Doess Godclaw'sss horse have a name?"
"Chimalma." Yaretzi says, thinking for a moment. "It's like a shield-bearer....a warriors name." she explains. "Fitting for a horse of war."
"It was given as pay, and Yaretzi think it well worth the coin Chima was given for." Yar's word amused as she takes a small moment to think in Skiels' words. "Warm clothes, food, shelter. Yar will mark and plan today.... go for supplies tomorrow."
Skielstregar gives a solid thumbs up. "Chimalma isss a sssolid name for sssuch a beast. Such sssteedss are worth much to our line of work. Getting places quickly is important. As well asss hauling many thingsss."
He grins. "That isss a good plan. Thisss one will need to find a path between here and thisss one'sss camp. It cannot be more than half a day between here and there, thisss one thinksss..."
"Comforting." Yaretzi says, standing tall with a stretch, and looking down towards the river. "Then it is only half a day from friends and the Pointe, but a day from city. Good. Close, but not too close." calculating the distance to her recollection.
"Find path, or make one. Either is good." Yaretzi jokes, crossing towards Skielstregar. "It will be good to be busy." nodding towards her friend. "So, why this one not stay in Mictlan?"
Skielstregar bobs his head in agreement, a little chuckle leaving him, idle gaze drifting from the site to the approaching woman. The question makes him shift slightly. "They ssstay near Mictlan," he answers, a slight deflection. Then. "... at firssst, it wasss for sssafety. Thisss one had not... erm... quelled their urgesss?" he sheepishly admits. "Not like in Crimson Pen. Vile urgesss. Safer to live away from people. Vaera had camp near Mictlan. End up at her camp to watch over thisss one. Then, over time, camp became more permenant. Mictlan isss a sacred sssite. Cannot build permanent structuresss there. It isss not far to Mictlan from their camp. Maybe an hour on foot if brisk. Fassster on mount."
"Sacred? Yaretzi sees, that is something she had not known." Though why would she? Yaretzi is not of these parts. "It is also good that Skielstregar took time to temper. Yar understands some of that." flashing a smile and dark glance. "Yar's temper can be bad when spurred." she notes, sighing. "Sorry for sore topics, Silver. Ya knows experience is not like Yar's blood."
"Sssacred, yesss, large bonesss of dragonsss ward the land there. It isss preciouss to usss. Should go there sssometime, it isss a kind place," Skielstregar smiles. Wicked teeth. Then, a soft sigh. "Thisss one felt part of that temper," he rumbles, rubbing his arm. It's fully healed since then.
He holds up a hand. "No need for sssorry. Admittance of the factsss hep thisss one move on. Just know that thisss one'ss blood, if spurred, will drastically change them."
He affixes her with a serious expression. "If that happens, do not fear. Thisss one is in control."
"I will not fear... know." Yar says, thinking on herself it seems. "This one is in control too." her smirk broadening, though it is clear she knows difference from friend and foe. "In a real fight, Yar does not feel bad for what she does. Only friends does she worry over. Not the best, but until one is friend, they are unknown." she notes.
"One days, this one will be as strong as Skeils. A happy day too." Yaretzi serious, but with mirth and tease.
Skiel nods his head slowly, stepping off the rock he was leaning against. "Thisss one... feelss bad if a fight happens, but if it comesss to it, they will do what they mussst," he murmurs. "Everyone you meet iss just a potential friend you haven't met yet."
He reaches out, clasping her upper arm with a chilly hand. "But that, thisss one hass no doubt, Godclaw." He smiles.
