- APL: 2
- Encounter 1: 6 CR 1/2 Fast Zombies (CR 4 Encounter)
So word was sent to the Adventurer's guild that some adventurer's were needed for a mission. Not much details were given but word was passed so, you find yourself at a cottage outside Alexandria. You were welcomed in by a wizened old gnome. Chairs were offered for most, but of course on average they are too small.
Meanwhile the gnome is puttering about doing some things, "Thank you for comming, yes thank you. I need some help, see my wife passed recently, and I need some help." The gnome says, he seems to be doing two different things at once as he offers a tray of tea which he sets on the table and keeps working on whatever else it is, "MLT anyone?" he asks.
Nicolai sits cross-legged after moving a chair back and out of his way. He accepts a cup of tea, holding it gingerly. He tried to keep a straight face but something tells you he's a hair away from breaking out into laughter. "What sort of help?" he asks once he can manage.
James flies on out to the destination, because walking is for suckers. He lands carefully, nodding to the host. "Thank you no. I just ate." he trills to the gnome. He folds his hands under his cloak, and his wings to his back.
Jokul is much less in the mood for laughs. IT probably doesn't help things that gnome living arrangements are probably a bit too small for people his size to begin with, and even more inconvenient when one is lugging an oversized sword around. But still, rather than opting for sitting like Nicolai does, he just remains standing near the door (hunched over as he might need to be for that) with his brow ticking periodically. "...Just say what you need done." So much for manners, apparently.
The gnome still putters around, "Oh I am getting to it, good to be polite, no MLT? More mutton for me then, though I think I need more lettuce, best when crisp." he almost seems to be a bit scattered brain but as he talks he keeps mixing whatever he is doing and then turns, "Well, as I said, my wife passed, but I was realizing yesterday, that she isn't all the way dead, she is just mostly dead, which means that I am honorbound as her husband to bring her back and listen to her nagging for days on end. At least till she finally fully kicks the bucket. I need someone to go where her body is interred, my feet just aren't what they used to be and the walk is too much."
Nicolai pauses with his teacup halfway to his lips, pinky outstretched daintily. "You want us to dig up your dead wife's body?" His gaze slides over to Jokul first, then James and finally Aya.
"...Come again?" Both of Jokul's dark brows slide upwards, slooowly. "Your wife is... 'Mostly dead'," he repeats. "And she got buried. Only mostly dead. Rather than completely dead. You wanna run that by me again and then tell me what exactly is wrong with this picture?"
James starts to flap in surprise, but given how cramped this is, he has to hold it back, and just mostly flap. "Mostly dead?" he trills. "Well, if she survived, that's a good reason to fetch her, then. How long has she been buried?"
The gnome shakes his head, "Not buried, interred, she is in my family crypt. You just go, I give you the key, you go in, pour this liquid down her throat, and when she wakes up in 20 minutes, escort her home." he finishes what he was doing, pouring a potion into a vial. He looks up, "Oh we interred her yesterday, but there was a wagon that took her and gave me a ride, no wagon today."
James looks down at the Gnome and mostly flaps again. "Would you like to come along then, or is it too much of a trip? Anything else we should know?"
Jokul looks distinctly unimpressed by all this. "So... we walk," he mutters, sighing heavily. "How did you end up *thinking* she was fully dead, anyway?"
Nicolai's hand creeps towards where he wears his holy symbol. "So she is not dead, and this potion will make her...rise." He sets down the teacup and rises to his feet, immediately bumping his head. Acting like nothing happened he adds, "Is she going to be happy to be brought back? If she tries to attack us...then there's always the chance I might slip and unleash some divine energy. Is she going to ah, react badly to this?"
The gnome chuckles, "Oh she was stiff as a board, she was dead, but then I was remembering I taught her a trance, and that is what she is, she is in a trance state, its like being dead, but she is alive, no she is not undead, no worries there, and more than likely she will just complain about me." he shakes his head and sets the vial before them, "Now off with you." he does give directions to the crypt, in a nearby cemetery and then is busy with something else.
Nicolai turns and carefully makes his way out of the cottage. Once outside he straightens up and then stretches. He does touch his symbol now, and murmurs a quick spell under his breath.

Jokul looks more unimpressed by every passing second. But, at least he gets to get out of the tiny house. "So... " He breathes out after all of them are outside. "Anyone else feel like something's off here?"
<OOC> James says, "how would I roll this? :)" <OOC> Zyla says, "+roll sense motive" GAME: James rolls sense motive: (2)+10: 12 <OOC> Zyla says, "don't notice anything off"
Nicolai says, "It's hard to say. If she is undead we'll destroy her, of course." He mentions this almost off-handedly. "But if it's true...what a story, eh? Back from the dead.""
James nods to the gnome and leaves with the others. "It should not be difficult to tell if she's dead or in a trance. I suggest we travel straight away and meet there."
"We'll see, I guess," the Aesir with the giant sword mutters, now propping the blade against his armored shoulder for ease of travel. "Let's go deal with it, then. See what's what."
From the directions the cemetery isn't too far, maybe 30 minutes away.
James uses his wings as he is able, to travel along to the destination. He doesn't have the full-speed flight capability yet, but walking is for suckers.
Nicolai has a distance-eating stride that makes him have to slow occasionally lest he outpace the rest of the party. Once they reach the cemetary he grasps Tarien's symbol. "Just remember guys, if she dies wake up." He holds up the symbol and makes a buzzing noise. "Just in case." Then he steps in to look for the grave in question. <OOC> Nicolai says, "Er, that was supposed to say 'if she DOES wake up'" <OOC> Zyla says, "jokul?" <OOC> Jokul says, "Sorry"
"And if she comes up wrong, cut off the head?" Jokul asks with a faint hint of a smirk, of all things. "We'll just have to see what happens, I guess." You reach the entrance to the cemetery. It is pretty good size, but also very quiet. But that is a good thing, right. You follow the directions and see the correct crypt right in front of you with its metal locked gate. <OOC> Zyla says, "he did give the key too..." James looks around. "Alright, let's go inside, and find her tomb. I will apply a blessing to us before we open her tomb, so that in case there is something wrong, we'll be ready." <OOC> James says, "ok heading home now, back ASAP"
"So I'm the only one here who doesn't have any magic to his name," mutters Jokul with a roll of his shoulder (the one not supporting the heavy sword mind you). "I'll take the front, then, I suppose."
Nicolai produces the key! Which he immediately uses to unlock the crypt. Pushing the door open, he moves to the side and holds out his hand for Jokul in an 'after you' gesture.
There is an long screeching sound as the gate opens, but other than that nothing. Inside can be seen a room with an older gnomish woman laid out on a table.
"...Thanks." Jokul may or may not be incredibly bemused by the gesture, but nonethless he moves past Nicolai and into the crypt. "Hellooooo. Any undead monsters home?"
Nicolai steps into the crypt afterwards. "That must be her." He seems almost disappoints nothing jumped out at Jokul. Oh well. He leans his glaive against the wall next to the entrance. Nicolai now tries to move around the fighter to pour the potion into the gnome's mouth.
It isn't that difficult to get to the woman and open her mouth and pour the potion in. At first there is no sign of anything and then her chest is moving as if she is breathing.
"Anything seem messed up?" Asks Jokul with only the faintest bit of concern -- or maybe hope, for that matter. He's not really so much paying attention to the woman as he is just circling through the inside of the crypt and watching... everything else. Anything hiding there? Here? No? What about over there? "This couldn't be just a cut and dry run for once, could it?"
The chest of the gnoome woman is moving up and down, she is breathing but so far not moving yet.

There are sounds outside of the crypt.
James stands behind the brave one iwht no magic, clutching a small emblem of an Hourglass, and holding it up as he quietly prays for a blessing on the group, while the others open up and tend to the woman.
The sounds outside draws Jokul's attention, and he flicks his gaze back towards the door -- and in absolutely no time flat he declares, "I'm going to check it out," to the other two while he steps slowly, caaarefull towards the door. Just to peek out, first.
Outside are zombies, and the seem to be coming towards the crypt, drawn by the living presences. They are moving pretty fast though.
James trills low and soft. "Well, she may be alive, but they are not. But I can channel energy against them. Why don't I stand back with her, and do my thing for that?"
Nicolai backs away from the gnome, then begins looking back and forth between gnome and doorway. "What's out there?!" he hisses. "Are they after us? Or her?"
"Exactly what we expected there to be," Jokul calls back over his shoulder to Nicolai. "You do that, bird-boy. I'm going to say hi to our hosts here." And so, a stomp of his foot carries him through the door and outside, head tilting from one side to another to stretch out his neck, joints popping in time with him lifting the massive sword from his shoulder. "Alright, you dead freaks. You wanna party?"
James chirps quickly to Nicolai "Whatever they are, they aren't the Alexandria Brute Squad."

"Numbers are a bit tipped off here," notes Jokul... perhaps a bit too happily for what the situation happens to be, what with the zombies *swarming them* up here -- it definitely doesn't discourage him from swinging his sword to lob off the head from one of them while fire and clerical energy flows through the air and the unfortunate undead. "This might actually be--"
The zombies move much faster than might be expecting slamming into them again and again, each of the zombies manage to hit thier targets once, which leaves Nicolai taking a pounding and Jokul scratched.
James glances at Nicolai, and shakes his head. That hourglass symbol held out yet, he mutters "Feathers?" Then his voice trilling loudly, he caws "Hello. My name is James. We're saving this gnome. Prepare to die." And with a blast of divine energy, the remaining groaners are shattered.
The zombies are gone, its quiet once more, there is a voice from the crypt, "What is going on out there?" its an elderly woman's voice.
<OOC> Nicolai will cast CMW on himself! <OOC> Zyla says, "k" GAME: Nicolai rolls d8+4: (5)+d8+4: 9 GAME: Nicolai rolls 2d8+4: (14)+4: 18 <OOC> James says, "I'll do channel healball #3 on the group" GAME: You damaged Nicolai for -18 points. 21 remaining. <OOC> Zyla says, "ok" GAME: James rolls 2d6: (7): 7 GAME: You damaged Jokul for -7 points. 38 remaining. Nicolai looks to be on his last legs. But he manages to outlast the zombies. The voice makes him whirl around but he nearly collapses. Gritting his teeth, he casts a spell to heal himself. "That's better," he mutters. Then he readies his glaive, this time pointing it at the crypt.
"Done already?" Moans out Jokul, what with everything they were fighting being ash -- even ignoring the fact that he's been scraped up, and Nicolai's much worse for wear. He just props his sword back against his shoulder, with a disappointed pout. "That was way too quick." The voice from the crypt draws him to look over his shoulder to the door, though, and call out, "Oi. All awake now?"
James flaps his wings in satisfaction at just how well that worked. "Raven's blessing on us all," he mutters. And then since there's time, he closes his eyes and turns his attention to his companions, giving them the other side of the hourglass, so to speak. Helping them, he then turns to walk in. "Your husband sent us to recover you," he calls to the gnome.
The voice, "The daft wanker had me entombed, teaches me to go into a trance and then thinks I am dead, wanker." when you go up you can see her sitting up.
Nicolai begins walking slowly towards the entrance. "Are you all right?" he asks when he sees her, glaive still levelled. "Perhaps a quick spell of healing?" A moment later he adds, "Just a precaution..."
Jokul remains outside, just... watching. Just in case. Or just taking it easy, for now, seeing as he's just leaning against a wall at this point. "Someone's going to be having some marital issues..."
James comes inside as well to check on her. Since Nicolai is taking the lead on the healing, he just examines her. "He remembered at least. Which is why we're here."
She shakes her head, "I need to get home, can you help me? Still hard to walk, going to give that wanker a piece of my mind."
Nicolai frowns. "I suppose we could help. Your husband mentioned something about a wagon...?" Even as he says it Nicolai is already anticipating a piggyback ride...
So needless to say you get her home, mostly one of the larger ones carrying her. The gnome man gives you your payment even as he starts to get an earfull from his wife, giving you all the opportunity to get out while the getting is good.
