- Title: And You Shall Rest In Peace.....
- Emitter: Arynel
- Characters: Jokul (Ftr8), MAC-B1G (Art6), Elisabeth (Clr3)
- Place: Farm outside of Alexandria
- Time: Nov 26 2016
- Summary: Hired by the Guild of Adventurers, what could go wrong??
You all have found the job posting and were taken there by some rather....backwoods hillbilly sort of person. The whole way there, he's telling you about how his granpaw Jed and Grammaw Lily died a couple of years back, after they managed to turn the property over to his maw and paw. They're old farmhands, with sheep, goats, horses, and the like. he talks about one sheep, Bessie, a little too much but he seems okay.
Then he gets into the disturbing part. Granpaw Jed and Grammaw Lily just.....came up out of their graves and started to attack. He managed to get out of there with his sister, Susie but the rest of the family, Maw, Paw, Horses, goats, sheep....even his beloved Bessie, didn't make it from their grip. Now, he's asking to put them back in their graves....one way or another. He also says he's gonna stay outta your way, but he DID mention a weird looking....person walking through their property one day. Black Cloaked and such....but before he could say anything, the person was gone.
Elisabeth frowns a bit as the man describes what's been happening, and the frown deepens at the mention of the person in the black cloak. "I will do what I can to let your loved ones rest once more", she promises. "And to determine, if I can, the nature of the person you saw. You have a place to stay where you are safe, while we go to retake your family's farmstead?"
MAC-B1G does not contain detailed data concerning biological anatomy, and only general data relevant to ending biological processes. It does hold default values when clear data is unavailable. It's basso vocalizations reverberate. "Hypothesis: Repair of non-functional biological units requires arcane energy. Solution: Remove energies and return biological units to non-functional state."
"I'm gonna guess that guy in the cloak," says Jokul - who incidentally is also wreathed in a dark, flowing cloak around his mithral-covered self, but nevermind that - from the middle of the group. "That would be a necromancer or something, speaking from experience. Feh. Bloody things." He... doesn't seem particularly concerned, though, in spite of that conclusion he's made. He just keeps striding along with the others, overly large sword hoisted casually over his armored shoulder and all.
Nodding her head as the others speak, Elisabeth says, "I agree with you both... there's necromancy afoot, and the source needs be dealt with", as she looks up at both the golem and the warrior in turn; they both tower over her, after all.
"Yeah, yeah..." Grumbles Jokul after Elisabeth, drawing his free hand up to scratch his fingers - the tips of them left bared by his dark gauntlet - over his scalp. "Let's just try to get it over with quickly. Zombies are such a fuckin' chore to fight." ... Wait. What?
The youth stayed back for the moment, but he does tell Elisabeth that his sister is staying at an Inn in Alexandria until this blows over. but for now, he's staying way back to let you do your work. He's a big boy, but he's obviously scared, and he's a worker, not a fighter.
Upon reaching the farm you do notice that it's set up like a normal farm and the animals are behaving normally....except that the flesh is falling off their bones, and the people there have...obviously been dead for a good little while. There is no one with a black cloak in sight though.....other than Jokul.
Turning to the farmer, Elisabeth pulls out a few gold coins and offers them over. "Here, so that you and your sister will be able to afford the stay until we have dealt with the situation", she says to him, before turning to set out with the others.
On getting to where the farm is in sight, she draws her sword from its sheath. "Shall we clear the undead first, or is there perhaps a better idea?", she asks of the others, quietly.
MAC-B1G continues to lumber along with its large, heavy stride. It does not possess detailed data concerning agriculture nor the standard arrangement of appropriate facilities and grounds for it. Its faceplate traverses port and starboard as it scans the vicinity. "Threats detected: Zero." When tactical plans are queried, it slows, faceplate traversing towards one, then the other fellow taskforce units. "Provide tactical directives."
"Uuuugggghhhh these things are going to be so *boring* to fight," grumbles Jokul unhappily. "But FEH. I guess they need to be cleared out. Maybe if we're lucky the guy in the cloak comes along..." If they're *lucky*?
"With me, Sungirl." SUngirl? Maybe Jokul means Elisabeth, seeing as he's gesturing towards her when he says that, and goes stomping forward. "Watch my back just in case. Gears..." Maybe that's supposed to be MAC. "Stay back and see if anything pops out from the bloody shadows or somethin'. If the Cloak's hidin' inside, the commotion might make him come peekin' out."
"Please, call me Elisabeth... or Templar, if you prefer a title of some sort", is the reply from 'sungirl'. She does, however, move out to follow after Jokul, as he requested of her.
"Fine then, Lis. Come with me," murmurs Jokul. He... still gets it wrong, technically.
Elisabeth opens her mouth as if to correct him once again... but closes her lips as if conceding that, at the very least, he's using an abbreviation of her actual name.
"Directive acknowledged," the construct responds. "Beginning overwatch operations." The cylindrical armament mounted on its starboard scapular plate articulates up and over the joint, telescopes to 1.21 meters in length. The fore is gripped in the starboard manipulator while the port connects to the breach of the weapon, powering it to life that includes a cyan glow at the bore.
An Oink can be heard at the pig pens....and there is definitely rotten bacon there. The pigs are falling apart too, but the oink seems to get the attention of one of the farm hands.....obviously greyed and mottled flesh from their struggle with undeath. Their gaze immediately falls upon Jokul....and they actually look.....happy. As happy as you can be with no teeth and half your face falling off that is.
Upon further inspection, all of the farm animals, people, and even chickens are dead....and all of their attention seems to be on Jokul, and one of the group calls out 'Master!'.
This could be awkward for Jokul.
"Perhaps....", says Elisabeth in a quiet tone of voice, "... they can be asked to lead you to your current base of operations? ... or shall we simply dispose of them, oh Master of the Dead Farm?" Clearly, she's not above a little teasing and nick-naming in return.
"Hrrrrrrm," growls Jokul over the reactions of the undead present. "Stay behind me, but be careful when're in the more sideward angles," he murmurs in a whisper, back to Elisabeth without actually looking to her. "I might not have the time to making sure I don't hit you. If you have any magic to share out, do it now before they decide to keep you too busy for it." After all that, he suddenly comes to a stop with a heavy, echoing STOMP of his foot against the ground.
"Yo," he roars out, loud enough to be heard through the farm. "You all wanna save some time for all of us and just bring the big guy out here. I don't really feel like going through all of you little shits and neither of us probably want to make the farmgrounds all messy with guts."
... Is this what Jokul calls diplomacy?
MAC-B1G scans the surroundings for hidden threats, torso rotating to traverse faceplate and weapon together in a full revolution. Upon completion, its faceplate deviates slightly to unit desginate Jokul before traversing to the unknown agricultural unit. "Directive: Defective agricultural unit, indicate master unit responsible for the partial repair of units in this location."
"I can sh...", begins Elisabeth before Jokul starts his 'diplomacy', and then decides to simply pick a spell herself, murmuring a prayer in the Celestial tongue for Daeus to protect Jokul from harm before touching him lightly on the back. She then falls back a few paces, to give him swinging space.

One of the 'farmers' stops at Jokul's declaration and lowers itself a bit. "You're not master! We'll teach you to come here!" And just like that, every single solitary one of the animals, as well as the farmers rush to attack. And there is a LOT of animals coming for them.... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ATTENTION -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"Huh," Jokul lets out as a sound of mild disappointment to the following proceedings. "I guess the guy isn't here... But maybe he'll come back." He lifts the stupidly large sword from his shoulder, and allows it to swing down to hit the ground first with a heavy THUD. "Gears! Thin them out!" He calls out, while he brings his other hand to grasp at the sword's hilt while it's turned to his side, angled slightly downwards.
"Try not to be in swinging range, Lis."
"On it", says Elisabeth as she steps back, trying her best to gauge the amount of room he'll need for that massive blade. She flips her sword over in her hand, so that instead of gripping the haft so that the blade is in a ready position, the pommel with its amber stone is in a ready position.
"Multiple threats detected. Threats closing," the assault construct advises. "Priority target located. Thirty-two point seven five meters bearing zero three two, in partial cover via agricultural domicile. Deflector shields engaging." GAME: MAC-B1G casts Shield. Caster Level: 6 DC: 13

"See, this is why I don't like fighting zombies," grumbles Jokul while his eyes narrow at the frontmost zombie. "They're slow..." He pauses in his words to suddenly swing his sword up from the ground -- and the wa he does, it might almost seem like the unfortunate undead just happens to get *caught* in it, lumbering slab of metal that it is. And the sheer weight of the weapon and the force of the motion smack into the figure and... Well. The sword doesn't really look that sharp, but the strength behind the swing bring it cutting through the rotting flesh upwards from the hip, cleaving through nearly-lengthwise to send several rotting pieces of what used to be a farmer flying into several different directions, all guts and bone fragments. Rotten corpses don't keep together very well.
"...And they can't think for hte life of them to do more than fuckin' stumble at their enemy," the Aesir goes on grumbling then, before his attention flicks briefly over his shoulder, back towards the golem. "Find him," he yells over to him, as he stomps forward. "I'll clear the path." And forward he goes, across the yard right for the horde that had just stopped. This would normall seem like a really terrible idea.
...But, in the next instant, the large warrior brings his sword swinging through the air in a wide, horizontal arc that's carried by the pivot of his foot after he's stomped himself to a stop. Adamantium finds flesh and bone, and just like that, the air around Jokul is filled by a rain of corpsebits left behind by several undead farmers who have been very much reminded of their passing.
Elisabeth watches as Jokul... clears a path. Eyes wide at the man's capability for destruction, she pauses a moment, then follows in his wake. Once caught up to him, and when the undead mob is again closing in, she raises her upended sword into the air, as she did before, and the amber stone set into pommel glows momentarily, with the glow bursting outwards across the battlefield. Half a dozen of the undead, mostly animals, are affected as if by an explosion, their eyes and mouths glowing momentarily before their bodies are torn apart and flung, in pieces, away from the woman who just called down the Sun Lord's light.

"Hrmh?" Jokul's yes flick towards the lightshow of lightningbolts, annd a scowl twists over his face. He considers that, and the situation around him and Elisabeth for a fraction of a second, and...
"Oi, Lis," he growls, while he stretches the arm holding the massive sword over his chest, to prop the blade over his shoulder and past the back of his neck while his left hand reaches over to press it's knuckles against the right arm just past the elbow, to help keep it in place there while he twists he digs his feet in.
"Duck down," he tells her. "And then get going over there, *quick." This is right before he unsprings himself, in a manner of speaking. He twists his body into a sudden, all-around spin-- sending his sword hand back out from his left shoulder after the first spin, so that it's sent launching with immense force through the air, carried along with the spin to cutting through the undead surrounding them, seperating upper torsos from lower bodies as it flies through.
Jokul wasn't kidding when he told Elisabeth to be careful in his swinging range.

Elisabeth crouches, holding her shield up in a 'just in case' sort of way, until Jokul's moved on from her immediate area... then she hops up and hurries over to where Mac's much larger body is between her and the necromancer, then lifts her sword's pommel up again and utters a prayer for Daeus' blessing in the battle for herself and her allies. Another soft glow comes to the sword's pommelstone, and then washes out over the battlefield. This time, however, the undead are unaffected... but Elisabeth, Jokul, and MAC-B1G all seem to have some of the glow catch onto and then sink into their bodies.

Elisabeth steps back as the big golem rushes in and clobbers the necromancer, and when that enemy seems to be down for the count, turns and looks about. "See any more undead about?", she questions aloud.
And so Jokul slows the pace of his movement down when he sees the necromancer fall.
He tries not to look disappointed.
"Okay, so..." He murmurs with a heavy sigh, padding his way towards Elisabeth and MAC, eyeing over the slumped-over mage. "I guess we should make some rounds around the farm real quick, to make sure he didn't have friends." He swipes his hand over his plated chest, too. "...I need to wash up after we're done, too."
"I can help with that", Elisabeth says to Jokul. "... after we've swept the farm clear of the unliving", she adds, in agreement with the big man's plan of action.
It's quite clear that the only dead that were on this farm are now re-dead....except for the Necromancer, whom is now dead.......no other shambling corpses are in the area......at all.
MAC-B1G scans the area with several complete circuits. "Threats detected: Zero. Defective biological units detected: zero," it confirms.
"hm...?" Jokul looks a little bemused by Lis' offer, but he just says, "Okay..." And turns to lead the others on the sweep.
Once they're done with all that, he finds some shaded spot where he can stab his sword down onto the ground and lean against it as a makeshift leaning post. "...WEll. That was a thing. Just zombies.. Bleh." He is apparently not happy with the fight he got. Oh, what a poor thing. ...The narrator is sarcastic today, apparently.
With the group taking a rest after the sweep, Elisabeth holds up a hand, as if gesturing to a spot above Jokul's head, and mutters a simple prayer. Water, as if a miniature storm, falls from a few feet over the big man's head, rains down over him.
Despite their rather messy fight, they're greeted by the farm hand and given their payment on the way back to his place near alexandria, where he lives with his sister. There...they're given a meal and a bath....well separate baths from Jokul, since he had to get his armor cleaned. Thankfully, this little epidemic didn't spread out too far......but who knows why the undead where were simply...continuing their chores....
