It's the middle of the night. After the sun sets, the swamp is darkier and even eerier. The adventurers have had a couple hours to rest in their bedrolls on the soggy little island campsite, enough to fall into a deep slumber. Only Tannin remains up, watching for threats that might threaten her sleeping cohorts.
Eleria is laid out on her bedroll, having nearly passed out from exhaustion after just that short trip. She's breathing heavily, even in her sleep, and the pale elf has gone even paler. She's lost a lot of blood...

Sonja leans up against a rock and snores, though it's a quiet snore....if that's possible. She has her Earthbreaker leaned up against the same rock, but she's otu of her armor while she sleeps. Seems this is typical for the Giantborn to sleep.....
Cesran is sleeping peacefully with his pack near the fire. He curled up against the cold.
Tannin is sitting there, keeping watch with whoever else may have taken a shift, shortbow resting with an arrow nocked across her lap, when she cocks her ears a little, trying to look nonchalant as she nudges the Egalrin that's rejoined the group, peering out the corner of her eye toward the splashy-clompey sounds. "Whssht! Awake! But be still!' She says, in low tones.
Kanyk has a bedroll laid out, but he isn't laying upon it. Instead he sits on it, bow legged, his hands clasps in his lap. His piercing eyes are now closed, and his breathing is really calm, giving the appearance of sleep and rest. His wings flutter ever so quietly.... until he feels the nudge in his side. He perks up ever so gently and opens his gaze. He turns his head slowly towards her, orienting his ears towards the sound.
Tannin's quiet warning comes just in time. As her fellow adventurers are roused from slumber, the splashing sounds she picked up on become louder. Then, the menacing shadowy forms emerge from the reeds, splashing up onto the little campsite. As they draw closer, the moonlight in the clearing illuminates their monstrous forms...
They're frogs. Big frogs, maybe the size of ponies. But frogs. For a moment, they peer with big unblinking eyes, not looking all that threatening. Then the lead frog lets out a deep, menacing 'ribbit', revealing a mouth full of razor sharp fangs. That can't be normal.

The frogs leap forward, cavernous sharp-toothed maws gaping open. Seeing the sleeping adventurers as prey, they lunge forward and snap out their long, sticky tongues. Tannin is quick enough to avoid the lead frog, who was attempting to make a meal of her. Cesran, Eleria, and Sonja were not so lucky. Each awakens to the sudden horrifying situation of having a sticky frog tongue wrapping around them and drawing them towards sharp teeth. Oh dear.
Tannin looses into the dark, and then, crying out, "Awake! You brave ones, awake!" She gives ground to the snapping frog-creature, as she backs throught the little campsite, voice crying out sharply, as she draws one in... Chanting, "In the dark, in the dark, awake!"

Eleria jerks awake as she's yanked off her bedroll, being dragged along the dirt towards the vicious frog. She lets out a frightened scream, and struggles briefly before snatching up her sword from beside her bedrool. She swings at the tongue, but it just bounces like a giant rubberband under her attack. "Abominations!" she cries, still half-asleep and starting to freak out.
Eleria's efforts to fend off the frog trying to make a meal out of her succeed in keeping it at bay for the moment. Sonja and Cesran are not so lucky. They are both drawn into the maws and have their arms gnawed on. The lead frog, looking for an easier meal than Tannin, snaps its tongue at Kanyk, and is unsuccessful once more.

Cesran is woken up out of a sound sleep as a frog's tongue latches on to him and yanks him out of his bedroll. He barely has time to register what's going on before the frog bites him. That wakes him, up as he twists and turns to get away from the song and he goes over near Tannin.

Snorting awake as she's suddenly dragged away from her sleeping spot, Sonja, one she realizes what's going on, suddenly plants her feet once her arm is bitten. "You picked the WRONG night to mess with me frog!" With a roar that even Tannin hasn't heard before, the giantborn flexes not only her arms, but her shoulders and chest as well.....and with a loud snap, the tongue flies free of her arms. Even despite her bleary eyed condition, she touches her chest......and shakes her head....now fully awake. Then she moves for her Earthbreaker.

Eleria struggles against the tongue wrapped around her arm, teeth gritting and letting out a long string of elvish profanity. She digs her feet in, scimitar tip digging into the ground...but she's dragged inexorably towards the frog, and her profanities ramp up significantly in volume.
The Egalrin Monk is up and alert thanks to Tannin's warning, and he is able to avoid the onslaught of tongues. He still hasn't fully gathered himself yet from his rest, but once he does, he notices that Eleria is in trouble. Instinctively, but with no small amount of discipline, the Monk takes a bountiful step towards the frog that had hold of Eleria, and sends a quick jab of his left hand at it, followed by his right. The left hits flush, but the right misses its mark. "Hang on, Eleria. I will see about getting you loose."

Chomp chomp chomp. The ravenous, wounded frog is trying to make a meal of Eleria as quickly as it can, gnawing away at her. But The Althean spellsinger presses on, hopefully finding the groove of it, keeping on with the song, "Come take your ease, here is your home, here is your rest, here is your place, creatures of these fells, come take your sleep, come take your place, come drink starlit grace, and all's well... Yay, she's free! Eleria owes Cesran and Kanyk drinks later. But for now, she's preoccupied.
Eleria kicks away the slimey toad's tongue and leap to her feet. She's breathing heavily, covered in bite marks and toad slime, her hair disheveled and a look of pure rage on her face. "Alright, you <angry Druidic>, time to BURN!" She spits a few chanted words at the remaining toads, her hands moving in a slow circle around each other. Within, a small point of orange light starts to grow...and grow...until it's a ball of fire the size of a softball. She takes a step back, leg raising and pitches the ball at a nearby frog with perfect form.
The flaming sphere grows even bigger as it sails through the air, and bumps against the one latched onto Sonja with a loud sizzle of damp flesh.
Cesran dodges the tongue of the frog again and he casts magic missile again. As he extends his hand three more magic missiles fire from his hands. 1 of them goes towards the toad that is previously hurt and it drilled right into the frog's brain. The other to fly to hit the toad that been trying to eat him.

With this frog killed, Kanyk turns to locate the last living frog (that isn't already asleep). He is there in a blur of motion, and once his feet plant firm, his arms continue that blur of speed. Once more, his first attack hits the frog squarely between the eyes, while the other one sails over the head of the dead frog. Once giving the corpse a quick glance to insure that it was indeed a corpse, he rolls his neck slightly and shakes his arms a bit, as if stretching after just waking up. "What a pleasant thing to wake up to."
Eleria is panting heavily as the last awake frog turns into a pile of skin and organs, and it takes a moment for her to get her cool again. She brushes a damp bit of hair out of her eyes, and frowns distastefully at the sleeping frog. Stepping up to it, she gestures to the 5-foot ball of flame, and it floats over to spin slowly above her outstretched palm. The druid looks about at the group about her. "What shall we do with this one? I am not in a mood to talk, and would prefer to just kill it and get back to sleep. Paladin? Er...Sonja?" Eleria forces a small smile. "What say you?"
Tannin looks over to Eleria, glancing about,
Cesran watches the other frog drop and he moves over, "I'll do it." He does a quick precise motion and points to fingers at the toad. With a word of eldritch his fingers glow red and than a beam of intense hit goes from his fingers through the back of the toad's skull.
Once the last awake frog is down, Sonja looks over towards the sleeping frog. "I'm not exactly comfortable with killing something that's helpless, even though it just tried to eat us." She then takes a deep breath. "Did it happen to speak with the others while we were fighting? Like it had some intelligence?"

Cesran brushes his hands off and he feels the light go over him after he kills the frog. "Shall we get some sleep?" He moves back over towards his bedroll to get back to sleep.
Eleria jumps back when the beam of fire shoots from Cesran's finger into the frog at her feet. She flashes the wizard an angry glare. "Showing off much, Wizard?" she spits, anger giving her words extra bile. With a growl, she drops her hand and the ball of fire winks out of existence. "Well, shall we get back to sleep?"
Sonja looks in shock as the frog is literally turned to dust before anyone, except maybe Cesran, can conclude that the frog has any intelligence. She grits her teeth and stomps over to Cesran, grabbing him by the front of robes. "WHO LABELLED YOU EXECUTIONER!?" She roars. "HOW ABOUT, INSTEAD OF BLASTING SOMETHING BEFORE THE REST OF US DECIDE, WAITING UNTIL WE AGREE? OR DID THAT NOT EVEN ENTER YOUR OH SO HIGH AND MIGHTY INTELLIGENT MIND!?" She then takes a deep breath, but doesn't let go of Cesran. "I can understand killing something in self defense, but when it is helpless, intelligent or not.....group consensus first. All right?"
Cesran looks over to Eleria, "Nope, just ending the threat so I can get some sleep." He covers himself back up, "Giant frogs, while they are dangerous are less intelligent than the domesticated dog, if it woke up it would have attacked us and we would have killed it anyway." He is grabbed out of Sonja and he frowns at her, "And while we fought about whether we should kill it or if Eleria was going to hug it into liking us it was going to attack and hurt someone. It's a dangerous creature and when it attacked us it gave up it's right for life."
Eleria pinche the bridge of her nose. "Cesran...please stop being an idiot and antagonizing the paladin who is probably looking for an excuse to turn your face into mulch.
Tannin nods, then, a slight frown. "Good night, indeed, creature." She frowns, then says to Sonja. "Peace, Sunblade! " She pauses, says more quietly. "I think you're both right, in your several ways. Events overtook, but that's an end of it. " Another pause. " Still. I'll need a moment, then I'll see to our hurts. It'd be best if the things weren't among us, there may be other predators about."
Sonja says, "You didn't bother to tell us before you zapped it, Cesran. If it's helpless, tell us next time. All right?" Sonja then lets go of Cesran's robes and turns back to her sleeping place. "ugh....""

Sonja grabs one of the frog in one hand, and another in the other, and throws them into the water as well.
Eleria smiles gratefully at Sonja as the huge paladin does away with the frogs. "Thank you. I'm /still/ exhausted from those leeches." She yawns, crawling over to her bedroll. "Things will be better in the morning. I'm sure of it."
Sonja looks down to Eleria and chuckles. "better to take my fustration out on them...." She says before going back to her spot. "Sleep well, Eleria. Get better. We're gonna need you."
Cesran rolls his eyes a little bit and he shakes his head as he heads back to his bedroll, "Sorry I didn't let it be a group decision to kill the flesh eating frog."
Tannin gives a nod to Cesran, "I do think it was inevitable, sir magician, it's just that for some of us, there's a way and consideration about such matters, and haste to kill is something we do mind among ourselves with some gravity."
"Apology accepted," Eleria murmurs, before drifting off to sleep.
Kanyk looks quietly between the party members, seemingly upset at Cesran for killing the sleeping frog. Kanyk personally didn't agree with the decision either, but he decides to keep quiet about it altogether. He moves towards his bedroll and looks down on it, considering for a moment the possibility of perching down amongst it. "I can take the watch for the remainder of the evening. I feel adequately rested. Unless anyone has objections, I will keep a lookout.
The rest of the night passes uneventfully, with Kanyk's watch keeping any more of the swamp's hostile denizens at bay for now. As the sun comes up over the dank, foggy swamp, the adventurers have likely gotten all the opportunity for rest they'll have at this campsite. The bog stretches out ahead of them, waiting for them to proceed.

Eleria rises from her slumber, grunting at the rousing from the Egalrin. "Already? Rrrgh...at least we weren't eaten," she mumbles. Rising to sit upright, she rubs at her eyes, still feeling bleary. "Mmm...need t' pray. Get spells, get healed... We got time?"
Whether they do or not, her eyes close, and Eleria begins to mumble quietly to herself. Though she does almost nod off a few times at first...
Tannin ends up waking somewhat late in the morning, getting a close-up view of a dragonfly. That she greets with a sleepy, half-articulated, "You're a very small cobbler..." Blinks. Squints. Looks around. Sniffs the air. Scares away dragonfly. Straightens a little and sighs. "Good morning, everyone."

Cesran wakes up and he goes off to mediate on his own and refresh his spells for the day. He comes back and he goes into his pack to get some left over food for breakfast.
Sonja grumbles softly as she stirs. "Morning, Kanyk." She says softly as she gets up.....and goes behind the rock. yeah. don't ask why. Then she comes back out to tug her sword out of her scabbard and puts the tip of the sword on the ground, facing the sun. It's obvious she's praying.
Kanyk offers a brief nod to Sonja, and then to Tannin. "Good morning." He offers to the both, and rolls his neck once more as he steps away from the tree. "I suggest we move as soon as possible. The sooner we can leave this marsh, the better."

Hours pass. Staying as dry as one can is a good idea, but you can only do so much in a dank swamp like this one. Everyone's boots are going to be quite muddy when this is over. The air is humid and nasty as the sun breaks through the fog, and tiny insects swarm the party. Off in the distance, animal noises can be vaguely heard.
Kanyk holds up boths hands out wide, and unfurls his wings, blocking all immediate passage around by him. "Wait. Do not step forward any further!" He pauses and points downwards into the brown colored muck. "That is not marsh. This pool of ooze is a living thing, unlike anything I have ever seen." He slowly takes a step back. "Can anyone identify it?"

Tannin hrms, "By its countenance and complexion, I should say this is the ochre jelly... Which is to say, a gelatinous ooze of this color, and dangerous enough to touch. I did, however, bring oil and alcohol, should burning it out be the way."
Eleria makes a face when Tannin identifies the thing. "An ooze? Ewwww... It must mean we're close to something important. I don't believe those things come to the surface without a good reason." At the suggestion of burning it out, Eleria takes several steps back. "Go right ahead, if you think that will kill it. I'd rather not have another encounter like the leeches."
Cesran hmms as he looks at the creature as he consults his vast knowledge, "From the coloration of the creature it looks to be an ochre jelly. Hey are ravenous flesh-eating oozes that are common to these parts. Do not attack them with anything that can cut them or pierce them. It will make multiple jellies. Also they are immune to electricity."
Tannin hrms. "Perhaps we might make our way around. Or..." She holds up a flask of oil... "Perhaps burn it out. "
Sonja says, "SO that means it's immune to your lightning wit too, right Cesran?" She says before looking at the.....ooze. "Hmmmm.....Hey Kanyk? Think you can find a way around it? Well.....on the pathway anyways?""
While the spot occupied by the ooze is the most obvious pathway forward, one could try wading through the muck on either side of it to go around. Of course, disturbing the sludge that much could risk altering the creature to the presence of the adventurers.
Cesran looks over at Sonja and he smiles at her, "But not my burning gaze. I also wouldn't try any mind effecting magic, they mindless creatures. If you like we could just burn a path through this."
Tannin hrms, looking about. "I suggest this won't be so easily passed around, be we coming or going, and it will likely pursue if we disturb the surrounding muck: the thing surely knows its own manner of feeding well-enough. So to speak. Does anyone have a quick means of setting this oil alight? "
Eleria raises a hand to Tannin. And snaps her fingers, making a spark jump from them. "Just say when, and it will burn."

It never feels good to be useless. But Eleria grins as she sees her group wail on the ooze. As a last-ditch effort to pitch in, she puts her hand into the sky. A dark cloud swirls into existence a few feet above the ooze, and sends a strong downdraft into the creature, flattening it further against the ground.
The group's ambush appears to have been extremely effective at neutralizing this particular threat. The jelly is turning into more of a burn puddle. Tentacles of ooze writhe and flail, but so far the group is doing an excellent job of staying out of its clutches. Elerie's spell keeps it safely at bay while the others pummel it.

Tannin sees the Egalrin contending with the forces of ...ick, and picks up her skirts and, seeming to be fumbling for appropriate inspirational hymns, instead says, "Oh, Lady's blessings with you...." She winks. Starts making her way around to where Sonja is, trying to stay well clear of the swinging tetsubo...
GAME: Cesran casts Acid Arrow.
Cesran takes out a rhubarb leaf and an adder's stomach from his spell component pouch. He rubs them both together and with a word of magic he fires off an arrow made of acid. It splashes against the ooze and the acid is strong enough to start to eat it's way through the jelly.

The Egalrin Monk's fists never stop moving. First with a three hit combination, and only seconds later, another multiple hits. All of them landing flush. The ooze is rendered less than inert, and looks like spilled jam all over the ground. He shakes his fists to clear them of the goop, and with an final 'Hmph' he turns. "That wasn't as bad as I anticipated. We should move on, unless anyone has a reason to stay here?"
Sonja looks at her earthbreaker and shakes it off. "Well, at least you kept me from getting more ooze on my dear Earthbreaker." She then puts it on her shoulder. "Come on. I think we can get through here without too much trouble, since oozes eat just about anything."
Cesran shakes his head, "No let's head on." He looks around, "So do you think this adventerer we are searching for made it past this ooze?" He hmms as he starts to look for any bones.
