- Summary: On a bright morning, Slix is finding a new routine of ascending the Mountain Road and hopping off the highest point to glide down alongside it. Despite all odds, she ends up running into a Skyguard on the way down, Zofija, who was hauling a delivery to the Nobility District in the air. Slix hitches a ride and they make their way down to the ground, joking back and forth. They make plans to get some drinks later before Slix heads off to let Zofi make the delivery.
- Mountain Road, Morning.
A clear blue sky frames a slowly cresting sun on this morning, a gentle haze cast over the city of Alexandria. The Mountain Road is long and winding, and the overhand to the west always shows a clear vista to all that lay beyond.
Near the end of the road is a turn that heads into the Nobility District proper, bend of the turn having some seating to enjoy the view behind some rails for safety. One such figure was disregarding such safety, and it would show cause for concern, were it not for a massive twelve foot wingspan of an Eglarin woman covered in ribbons and shawls. Her wings adjust some to get a feel for the everbreeze so high up above.
She trills once, "Hello sky!" and then falls forward. The wind picking her up as she starts to coast in a glide down, down, down the Mountain Road.
Various hues of ribbons flutter and gleam behind her in streams as she goes. <Auran>
What were the odds of running into someone familiar while gliding through the sky? It was almost a non existant factor more or less.
For the Egalrin however, perhaps they were just lucky enough to make it the vaguest of possibilities. Down and through the sky from up north came a bird even larger than Slixvah was, followed by the back legs of a lion. And on top of it was a familiar Arvek-nar, who was traveling for as long as she could manage through the air.
Long enough to pass by the Egalrin, who she dips her head to and grin towards, while her hands were occupied by a large crate. Screech regards the Egalrin as well, and gives a low chirp of recognition.
GAME: Slixvah rolls fly: (12)+6: 18
There's the sound of a chirping coo of surprise, and Slix squints through the air passing by before her eyes light up and she gives a big wave in response.
Her wings tuck in abruptly before she shoves one out, doing a small barrel roll to gain some speed and adjust to be just behind Zofija and Screech.
Then there's weight on the saddle behind Zofi as an arm loops around her to hold on.
"Is this seat taken?" the Egalrin says a bit louder than normal to compensate for the wind, her snickering.
There's a small grunt from the Arvek-nar, as she resettles into the saddle, and Screech turns it's head back to look and see what was going on, before turning back and continuing their descent as the hobgoblin guided them in the direction of the mountain road with her legs. "You've got wings, you don't need to worry about falling off." Zofi chuckles. "Lucky you're so light, Slix. Are you already tired from gliding that short distance?"
Slix pats the Nar on the back before gasping and going limp behind her friend to drape herself over Zofi's back. "Oh WOE is ME! I am so EXHAUSTED after using my LITTLE CHICKEN wings for nary a few wing beats! Muscles, dear! You may have to carry me back! I don't think I can make it!"
Skielstregar has arrived.
Slixvah goes Mountain Road <N>.
Slixvah has left.
"Your wings are fine. Don't make me dump you off this to make sure they're working." The Arvek-nar grunts, hands too occupied to do anything at the moment. So she just lets her head fall back slightly so she can look at the Egalring for a moment, and chuckle. "You really want me to carry you huh? Said I'd do that if you needed it, but people might give me more weird looks than normal if I'm carrying you around while perfectly fine."
Slix laughs easily, shifting some in the saddle. "Oh no, how will I /ever/ survive such a fall!"
She elbows the Nar in the side lightly. "Joking, sugar! Unless you really want to carry me, I wouldn't protest!"
Her head rises some to peer at the box. "Whatcha' got in there? And why is it Blar booze?"
"Not sure, It'd be awfully tricky. Chicken wings aren't particularly good for gliding, let alone flying." Zofi chuckles, moving just a bit with the light elbow to her side. "Do you want me to carry you or not? You're saying you wouldn't mind it."
The ground was getting closer, and she looks down at the crate. "Sure wish it was booze for myself, that'd be nice. No, some fancy noble is having some fancy dinner party, and they need some unfancy person to make sure they get their imported breads and pastries to their manor in time. So I reckoned that I could manage it faster than by ground, what with being able to get most of the way from the airstation."
So the ground was growing near. Slix laughs. "How lazy of them! I sure hope you're getting paid a pretty copper to do it!"
She pats Zofi on the shoulder. "See you on the ground, sweetie."
And just like the, Slix slides off the saddle and dive bombs the earth.
Her large wings splay out, buffeting the air with a 'flap, flap, flap' before her taloned feet meet the ground.
"What, no flip?" The Arvek-nar snorts when Zofi is taking off and over the side, leaving the two to glide the last of the distance before coming to a running stop. a bit past the Egalrin. "Yeah, pay is plenty good, since they had to have it by this evening, no time to deal with normal shipment processing and delivery. If they want to spend as much as they did, well I can use some of the coin it cost." Zofi chuckles. "I don't even think it's even better than the bread you can get in town here. If all they wanted was some baked stuff that's from out of town, I think I've still got some Hardtack that's mostly edible in my pack."
Slixvah ambles forward as the flying beast and Nar rush past her, her admiring Screech with a warm gaze. She laughs. "I'll do a flip next time, hon, need a little more air /just/ in case."
The eagle folk taps the side of her beak. "Sometimes people just want to know it's made someplace fancy, regardless if its actually good or not. Why, one time back home, I called out some Khzad for doing something similar. I didn't care about it, but they sure did!"
She softly sighs, and rests her gaze on Zofi. "How you doin', sugar?" she warmly intones.
Screech stops, and raises one claw into the air, before preening into one of their wings. Zofi chuckles, and hops off the griffon, securing the crate on their back. "Next time then." The hobgoblin nods. "Probably not as well as you are. What with getting swarmed by acidic maggots and dealing with a dwarf with a death wish, least the job didn't go completely badly, and I got paid. Druid got his bear in the process too, I'm surprised they were still alive."
Slix's gaze goes soft at that, her looking off to the side. "Barclaiigh," she mentions quietly. "I was there for the first attempt, shug. Was one hell of a thing. We had to run. Sorry you had to go in on that, it wasn't fun at all. But I'm glad it panned outsome."
She steps forward, and rests a hand on the hobgoblin's shoulder. "I'm glad you're alright. Wouldn't want my drinking buddy to get melted into a pile of goo."
"Yeah, that's the one." The Arvek-nar grunts. "Don't blame you for running, that was the smart thing to do. But if I was running, there was a good chance the dwarf was going to get at least two people killed with him in addition to himself, so that wasn't happening. Lucky things actually turned out alright, and I get to feel like a right piece of shit when the bear turns out to be okay in a nest of maggots and a giant queen ant."
She shrugs and continues on her way with the griffon beside her, to the main gates of the noble's district. "It did work out, and I'm not a pile of goo as long as I'm not talking to the wrong person. So that's good."
Slix hums. "Rather save my tail than get eaten by a bunch of bugs, to be honest." Though, her brows pinch. "The bear was... just fine? That's... pardon my language, honey, fuckin' weird. But no, for real, don't feel bad. You did what you had to do. And if it weren't for you, there'd be some folks lost, even if one was bit... I dunno, not right in the noggin."
The Eglarin ambles slowly beside Zofi, hands in her pockets. She gets a little glint of mischief in her eye at that. "Oh? Is that what that Nar lass did to ya?" she coos playfully.
"I think the insects needed them alive or something." Zofi shrugs. "Nasty things. Not really fine, but being alive and able to move in that situation is better than expected, even if it might have taken a bit of healing magic."
The Arvek-nar pauses, then grumbles something as she fusses with one of the overly elaborate gates leading into the district. "Yeah, suppose so. A bit on the militaristic side for me, but who isn't in Nlar. She was still nice to look at, and fun enough to talk to, even if I was losing track of my words. It's a wonder I even managed to make it up to an inn room like I did."
Slix pinches her feathered brow. "Needed them alive... now that's right odd..." She looks Zofi up and down. "You still need some healin', love? I can spare a bit for ya to top you off and what have ya."
She sighs a touch. "I'll keep that in mind next time we go out to get you some fun." But, she looks off to the sky, her putting her hands in her pockets. "Ah yes, such a wonder it was. And how fortunate you are."
She whistles innocently.
"I'm not sure. Worked out best for everyone at least." Zofi sighs. She looks over once she is able to shove the gate open, and shakes her head. "Appreciate it, but I'm fine, between everyone there's not a concern of any lasting injuries. Even if those bandages you have look kind of cute when you've got a healing wound."
"I guess I was fortunate. Might just be the skin color." Zofi grunts, gesturing to her arm. "They say the closer it is to the color of the setting sun, the better. Personally, don't care that much. There's this Arvek-nar that's around here, really dark gray skin with these interesting skull tattoos. Wouldn't mind getting to know her better."
Slix steps out of the way so Zofi could open the gate, though she holds it open so the trio could move through. She laughs. "And everyone will know that Slix patched you up. Damn right they're cute."
She lightly shrugs. "Maybe! You got an lovely shade on you, with a cute lil' nose to boot," she teases. Though, that gets her attention, and she perks up. "Oh really now? I'll keep a listen for 'em, see what they like and what not. Help you out- wink wink nudge nudge," she coos, her wing basically elbowing the side of the Nar playfully.
"I'm not sure if making a business of people knowing those going on journeys with you injured get hurt, but, doesn't matter that much." Zofi chuckles. "And if I'm going to get beaten up, might as well look good after the fact."
"I, yeah, thanks Slix." The arvek-nar grunts, continuing on into the meticulously manicured landscapes of the district. "She's a bit hard to get to know. I was going to go out for drinks with her after the jousting tournament, but turns out I need more training. Got knocked on my ass by a lucht of all things, to add insult to injury."
Slix shakes her head, chuckling as well. "I know a little arcane mumbo jumbo to heal someone if they need it just in case. But c'mon, getting covered in bandages with little hearts on 'em? Classic!"
The Eglarin chirps happily. "Of course, muscles!"
As they go, she shifts some of her shawls around as something within the fabric readjusts itself. "Eh, don't worry about it too much, sugar. Big surprises come in small packages, and even the little folk got some moves up their sleeves to make up for their stature. I hope next time you get around to those drinks, you'll have a swell time."
She ponders aloud. "Skull tattoo... that's wicked."
Screech raises their head and makes another few small noises of discontent. Clearly offended at the thought of being bested by an inferior half bird magical beast.
"I'm not sure if it's a classic if I've never seen anyone do that before." Zofi chuckles. "But you? I think you'll manage to make it a classic in enough time. If I run into that lucht in another tournament, you'll might get plenty of advertising for that."
"It is pretty cool. I don't think Egalrin can really get tattoos, but it's kind of nice that wouldn't be permanent. You could always dye your feathers into a neat pattern, and when you're tired of the look, they'd just grow back normal, right? Seems like a pretty nice deal."
Slix 'dawws' and pats Screech on the flank. "Oh, don't worry sugar, you're the bestest, most loudest lion eagle I've had the pleasure of seeing."
She snaps a finger towards Zofija. "Exactly! I'll keep some set aside /just/ for you so you can look precious."
She shakes her head. "No shug, can't have tattoos. You're right though, we do have quite a lot of feather dyes! I sometimes put some on, it's a lot of fun! Draw all sorts of fun shapes and images on the wings! Or my face."
The eaglefolk looks over to Zofi. "Would you get a tattoo? If so, why is it a heart on your butt?" she teases.
Screech chitters again, and nuzzles the egalrin once before continuing on. Zofija stops to look at Slixvah, and nods. "Yeah, they'd look real interesting on you. Your feathers are like a blank canvas for expression as they are."
"Because you look at it and immediately fall in love." The arvek-nar grunts, before bursting into laughter and shaking her head. "Yeah, I don't think I'd do that. I thought about it a few times, but no clue what I'd do. something on my face or down my arm, but I couldn't say what."
Slix hums, a sort of trilling noise rumbling in her throat. "Been told that once or twice. I've put eyes on my wings before, /real/ spooky-like to some folks!" she giggles.
Then, the giggle turns into a laugh, her elbowing the Nar in the side. "Heavens, you're a hoot. Why not get something like your cavalry regiment tattooed on your arm or something? You're always introducing yourself as bein' part of that."
She scratches her beak. "... If I had a tattoo... I'd get... something goofy. Probably 'your name' verbatim tattooed on my right cheek just to tell people I have their name on my rear," she giggles.
"I bet that would certainly be something to see and be seen by." Zofi continues to chuckle, returning the elbow with a light force. "I don't think I'd do that. It's just good protocol to state your name and rank really, so people know how to address you. I don't want to make being in the cavalry my defining feature. More proud of being in the skyguard really."
The Arvek-nar stops and snorts again, elbowing the egalrin gently. "Well, not a bad idea. Might get a bit offended if they find out, but I'd like to think most would laugh about it."
Slix then counter suggests, "Then why not a symbol of the Skyguard? Doesn't have to be for identification, it'd be personal instead."
She giggles as she's elbowed back. "Oh honey, if I'm in a situation where I'm showing off my tailfeathers, if they get /offended/ at that point I'm kicking their unlucky ass out!"
"You know, I kind of like that, Slix." Zofi chuckles. "If I get to know that cleric better, I'll ask her how she got that cool skull done, maybe she can give me some tips."
"And that'd be their fault, letting their curiosity getting the better of them to the point of missing what's in front of them." They nod. "I think something personal would be good for you too. But to be honest, as much as we've talked, I really don't know that much about Slixvah. I should get that fixed sometime, unless you don't like talking about yourself on purpose. I know a lot of drinking buddies can be like that after all."
Slix clasps her hands together, her having a hop to her step for a stride. "Well there you go, hon! Perfect thing to talk about next time you meet up with that fellow Nar!"
She snickers. "I've a soul or two who's /certainly/ missed what's in front of them. They're missing out." She smooths back the feathers on her crown and struts a bit.
Bit of a diva.
She glances to the Nar. "Zofi, sugar, I'm an open book, you just gotta ask the right questions. How 'bout this: we go drinking, I'll get smashed, and I'll answer whatever you want. IF! You carry me back to my inn room~"
"It's a good idea, yeah, as long as it's something she actually wants to talk about." Zofija nods, watching the Egalrin strutting about and chuckling. "Yeah, I imagine they would be. Just figured it was worth putting out there, plenty of people have all sorts of ways of acting even if they want to avoid talking about something." She shrugs, stopping to turn down a road. "Not far from here. And getting another good night drinking with you is already a good thing, but now it sounds even more interesting. But there you go again, asking about being carried. I did offer, so sure, why not?"
Slix bobs her head. "I may have a thing or two I may avoid, dunno yet, shug. Gotta feel it out when we get there."
She looks down the road as Zofi goes, her starting to slow some. "Well of course! Why wouldn't I, a small, dainty woman being carried along by such /strong/, muscular soldier? Swooon!"
She cackles. "Also because I'd be piss drunk and wouldn't be able to stand up straight," she chirps happily. "Look, I gotta do some things, but you, me, Fernwood Pub in Lower Alexandria. Tonight. Let's get sloshed. Sound good, sugar?"
"Well, I'll keep it in mind. You know, don't want to put my foot in my mouth any more than I already do." Zofija grunts, taking the crate off of Screech as they reached yet another set of gates to one of the manors. Though she stops, turns her head, and sighs. "Yeah, yeah. But sorry, I'm going to have to put your dreams of being carried drunk out to your room on hold for at least a day, sorry. I took a job to tend to the stables at the northern gates this evening, so I'm not going to be free. And if I'm going out drinking after that, well I'd rather not smell like manure and everything else in the stable. Maybe the day after though, or whenever you end up free."
Slixvah chuckles, striding forward towards Zofi. "Don't worry about it, honey. Set that down. C'mere."
The Eglarin reaches out with arm and wing and envelops Zofi in a proper, full on Slix certified embrace with both arm and wings fully wrapping around the Nar. She holds it for a long moment, gives a squeeze, and she pulls away with a smiling twinkle in her eyes. "Tomorrow night then, muscles. My nights are free."
Zofija grunts, and returns the hug, with less back popping this time. "Appreciate it Slix." She says, having to hold the crate in one hand to return the hug close to her chest. "Tomorrow night then sounds good. It'll be something to look forward to."
The cavalier steps back, and nods to Slixvah, before she moves through the gates. "Wait here Screech, I'll be right back." She asks, before heading down the path to the doors. Seemed with how much of a rush they were in for the order, they weren't inclined to answer the door quickly. Oh well.
Shelix was ready to have her back dislocated, but it never came, and she breathed a silent sigh of relief. "Catch you then, honey bun."
She watches Zofi go on, a hand on her hip. She glances right, then glances left before she looks to Screech and holds a digit up to her beak. "Shhh..."
Her attention shifts towards Zofi, and she wafts a hand through the air. It shimmers slightly, like a heat wave. "Have a beautiful day, sweet heart."
Even if the owner wasn't in any particular rush to get the door, a servant seemed to have spotted the Nar, and was making their way towards her.
How fortunate.
