The adventurer's guild has called you together. It has a job that has recently been posted and needs taken care of. Just outside of Alexandria is a small mine. Shipments from the mine have tapered off and the mine owners who live in Alexandria haven't heard from the messengers they sent to find out what happened. They are paying for someone to head to the mind and find out why contact has been lost.
This falls to you. The trip should only take a few hours, its a small mine but it is silver so it is an important one. You are given directions as well as a map and driven down one of the main roads till you get to a rocky trail that leads up into the hills, it is there that the wagon lets you off. Should have about another hour of travel to get to the mine.

Brightly garbed and smiling broadly, the Swashbuckler converses with her travelmates in her typical carefree fashion, much too happy to be on her way to a mine god knows where to face god knows what. "What do you think got these ones, Clive? Giant rats? Earth elementals?" She casually pokes the tip of her blade into the wood of the thing she's travelling in, eyes cast downward at it until she takes in a sharp breath, glancing up with bright eyes toward Virton, "Undead?!"
Shagara had been meditating in the wagon the whole way there. Unusual sight, but there it is. Once they're there, Shagara's out of the wagon and stretching out her legs, but watching Lenore. "Whatever it is......we shall be ready. Can you see in the dark?"

Virton paces in a quiet, reserved manner. You know, the way war golems normally walk, being generally unemotional creatures. His poor abused poncho is brushed aside, hands grasping the thunderbelcher in his hands. He idly tweaks a dial on the thunderbelcher as they walk, causing it to 'ooum' and 'vveeee' in different pitches.
"To be honest, partner, I'm gonna put my bet on undead." Virton buzzes, his head turning a bit to look around, orange eyeslots staring around. If he could make an expression, it'd probably be idle interest. Sadly, his face is static. A belch of black smoke pours out of the exhaust port coming from one side of his mouth.
"I reckon we might need a torch or somethin'."
Nicolai rumbles, "Who can say? About the only thing I'd rule out is wolves." He pauses and then adds, "Wolves don't live underground, do they?" He spends more time on foot and walking alongside the wagon than riding. A long glaive taps the ground along with every other step, as he uses it line a walking stick. "I can't see in the dark," he mentions when that question comes up. "I can make light though."
"Nope!" Lenore quips in response to Shagara, tossing her a crooked grin, "But, I do have a sword and can swing wildly until it finds -something- to wriggle its way into." She offers helpfully, before Virton speaks up, her brows shooting upward, "I do have one of those. If I could just..." She starts rummaging about in her possessions, various straps and pouches, holsters and more -- always prepared, that's the swashbuckler's way.
She produces a torch, finally victorious, holding it up proudly.
And then Nicolai talks.
"Pfeh, steal my thunder, will you..." She mutters.
You make good time and you can see some smoke ahead, though it looks like normal stove smoke, or a campfire.
Shagara chuckles a bit. "I can see in the dark.....no worries." She then holds up her hand. "Looks like a fire. Gee...can that get any more obvious." She says as she wanders on ahead. She moves faster than everyone else too.
"Two lights are better then one," Nicolai tries to mollify Lenore. Then he spots the smoke. "Aha! Smoke! That must mean...ah, what could that mean?" He glances at Shagara. "Right, a fire." As she moves ahead he whispers after her, "Wait, does that mean we're supposed to wait here? Or follow you or...?"
"-Fire- elementals??" Lenore seems excited by the prospect.
She shouldn't be.
Virton continues walking, boots leaving small imprints on the earth with his heavy footfalls. He might be a lighter chassis, but he seems to really enjoy the *tink* of his spurs, so, there you have it. "It might mean a cookin' pot. I could make us some beans 'fore we head down into the mine. I reckon you digestin' folks would do better with some of that there food in ya bellies."

Nicolai chants a quick spell and then starts to follow Shagara, partly so she doesn't get too far ahead on her own and partly to maintain optimal cleric positioning towards the center of the party.
You come up and can see that the smoke is coming from a smoke stack coming out of the mountan, above where you can see the entrance of the mine. There is a gate in front of the opening to the mine and its closed though you can see through it. Its quite stony here and there are a few statues on the sides of the trail leading up to the mine.

Nicolai eyes the gate as he gets closer. Then he moves over to the statues and glances them over. "That's odd - was this mine famous? A historic site or some such?"
"Huh. I reckon folk be livin' just fine -- either that or somethin' down there is keepin' things runnin' as usual." states Virton, as he looks over the smoke stack. He shrugs, pistons firing as he hauls his thunderbelcher up into a more tight-fisted grasp, and continues walking, generally ignoring said statues.
"Mind the statues. Some of them can come to life if they're guarding something." Shagara says as she ventures down that way.
"Um." Lenore pauses in her caring for her blade to look toward Nicolai with a squint, then to the mine's gate, then back to the cleric. "Could have been." She's great to have along, just a wealth of knowledge, really.
She meanders forward to approach the gates, giving an experimental back and forth swish of her blade, before bringing it up to rest against her ornate and colourfully pinioned mantle, bouncing it there idly as she regards the statues, until Shagara speaks. She hops back a step from one of them, pointing her blade up toward it menacingly. "It can come to life, just to go to hell!" She announces, stabbing at it without making contact, eyes narrowed sharply in threat.
"... No? Eh." Her sword lowers, "Let's head inside."
You hear from inside the mine, beyond the gates,"Run...get out of here before they get you." apparently the miners might be trapped inside by something out here.
Shagara grabs her sword immediately and holds it in that reverse grip she's accustomed to. "Before what gets us, I wonder."
<OOC> Virton says, "Is there a doorway into the mine or is it just a sloping chasm sorta deal?" <OOC> Niara says, "There is the mine opening and a gate is rigged up to block the opening, looks like the gates open to let people and carts in and out."
Nicolai nods in approval at Lenore's antics. It seems a fine way to rule out the statues coming to life. But then the voice comes out and he freezes, hunched over slightly as if caught in the act of something he's not supposed to do. He turns slowly towards the gate and then steps towards it. "Hello? Who are you?" he calls towards the voice.
"I got paid. Whenever I get paid, I always see t'job through." buzzes Virton, perhaps just loudly to himself. With the audiable *tink* of his spurs, he begins pacing down into said mine. "Hey, Partner. I ain't got that magic business to make ya move faster, but I got a shieldin' spell for ya." He buzzes, before giving a clunking shrug of his shoulders. "Don't see a point ta sittin' up here shoutin' down, lets go get this job done."
<OOC> Virton says, "Hey, Niara: I can't refresh my spells, is it OK if I consider one of my Cure Moderate Wounds as a Cat's Grace? I paged all the staff, but none of them have responded."
"We do have to be cautious though." Shagara says as she starts her way in.
<OOC> Niara says, "we will let you have that one, don't worry about casting. just pose casting it and we will go from there."
This is what a heartbroken Lenore looks like.
"But... but, it was so magnificent." She laments, poking her sword at various things on her way to wherever she's going, which seems to be an aimless meandering, now that she knows there is no hope or joy left in the world. "It'll do. I guess." It's only about then that she even realizes that someone is speaking, and it's only because other people are speaking back.
"What's this now? Adventure?"
Since you start your way in, You make it to the gates to find them locked with chains and padlocks, padlocks that seem to be on the inside, "Run, I told you. I am the mine foreman, runnnn." It does sound like they might be trying to get the locks unlocked.

Taking a few moments pause, Virton promptly ejects a hypodermic needle from his left forearm. The cap is taken off and a small nozzle promptly snaps out from the back of Virton's right hand. The said needle is popped over and held there, as a viscous glowing blue liquid fills the inside of the needle. He pulls it out, then screws the needle back on before setting it back in his forearm. He turns, gestures to his arm. "There. Got you one prepared, now. Luckily, I 'ad the bits on hand."
And she's good again.
"Why are we running? Where are we running?" Typical white bitch in a horror movie, Lenore seems utterly clueless, glancing around herself in a slow-turning circle that will reveal to her the truths of the universe. She ends up staring across at Virton with a quirked brow and a slow lift of her shoulders in an idle shrug, "I don't think we get paid if we run away." Well, that settles it.
Nicolai levels his glaive at the gate and then steps back so that he's in position to slash or stab at anything that comes out. "Good thinking - no telling what's really going on in there." He pauses and then glances over his shoulder at the trail. "Unless...unless it's really something out here, and the miners were chased inside and then they locked themselves in to get away from it."
"We're here to get you out first." Shagara says as she looks to the lock, then to Virton. "Can you get them open?"

As you stand there, two of the statues behind you move. Wings extend out from their backs and then launch into the air and then dive. One hovers just above Shagara and tries to slash with a claw and fails. The other dives at Virton and slashes, claw glancing off armor.

They caught you by suprise and as you start to recover the one that dived at Virton hovers there, and then full attacks him, claw claw, bite and horns, only the horns manage to scratch the artificer.

"Mah dang hide." buzzes Virton, in a tone that sounds approximate to irritation in the generally emotionless Artificer. He hops backwards as his body crackles with small sparks of electricity, as the titan armour integrated into his systems gives his body a sharp boost to its dexterity. The forearm holding the needle is aimed at Lenore's thigh, and with a 'fft' of pressure, the hypodermic needle fires out, injecting the viscous liquid into her body. "Yer body'll be workin' better now. Git stuck in."

He absolutely seemed like the sort to call.

"Allow me to return the favour!" She quips, before bounding forward and ramming home the point of her sword into the living statue with wings, gritting hard against the stone. "You were right! You are a prophet, my new friend... they've come to life, and now comes the part where we," She grits her teeth, twisting her rapier and pulling it free. "-Send 'em to hell-."

Shagara moves to the side so the status has to focus upon two people at once. Shagara then tries to hit it as many times as possible, but doesn't seem to be doing much.

The one creature rips into Shagara pretty good after being pounded on itself. The other turns and slashes into Lenore with two claws.

A beam of bright red electricity shoots out from the cannon attached to his shoulder, his hands having released the thunderbelcher he was grasping in order to brace said weapon of mass-destruction.
Except it doesn't do mass destruction, it just burns a hole in its side.

"Stop it!" There's a lot of ducking and weaving, before claws sink into her supple flesh, "Ow! OW! HEY!" She barks at it, her anger clearly growing as she's struck. She freezes momentarily as the red lightning arcs around her, her brows shooting up again as she rolls her wrist to flick her blade back forward again, her stance momentarily sinking before she lunges forward again to bury that blade all the way through the statue, cracking it apart in its strike.
"RIGHT TO HELL!" She lifts a fist in victory, before Lenore prepares to move to aid the others. "That bastard hit me! You don't hit ladies!"

Shagara keeps punching the statue, but she doesn't feel she's doing much damage....yet.

Nicolai grimaces at the 'statue' he's fighting. He can tell his strikes aren't doing much. He begins to cast a spell, and the blade of his glaive gleams briefly. Compared to his slow, ponderous movements the other adventurers are a veritable whirlwind of motion and manage to finish off one of them and then begin to whittle down the last.
"Them bastards ain't got no decency, partner." buzzes Virton. The cannon seems to track on its own accord, shifting from the first dead statue to the second statue. He shifts, turning as he brings both hands up to the cannon. He grips it in both hands, before he slides back a half-inch from the discharge from the cannon, the red bolt of lightning impacting into the statue and literally blasting it out of the air.
"Dang fools."
The remaining one slashes into Shagara again before being blasted. Both of the creatures scream out loudly before they crumble into small piles of rocks.
<OOC> Niara says, "free poses for the moment."
"Right. To. Hell." Lenore nods with each word, smug smirk coming back to her features as her head does a little wobble back and forth before she strikes a rather victorious, heroic pose, her blade's tip down and proper Captain Morgan stance achieved.
"Ow..." Shagara says rather flatly as she's cut into. "Yeah...so I didn't feel I was doing much." She says as she rubs her arm, putting pressure on the cut so it'll close.
There's an audiable hiss in the air as the cannon on his shoulder vents the excess heat, vents pouring with steam as it slowly slides back and clicks back into its resting place. One hand raises up, and Virton drags his poncho back over his torso once again. He gives a buzz that sounds like a grunt, turning slowly and purposefully on his heels as he steps over one of the now 'dead' statues. "That's right, partner. Now, we better head on further in an' get anyone stuck in there out to safety." A blurt that sounds like a chuckle. "You need ta get yourselves some of them magically enchanted weapons, folks."
Shagara says, "And to that...you need to go on missions." Shagara says to Virton. "But you're right...let's get them out.""
There is a roar, almost an answer to the screams of the monsters as they crumbled and the sound of heavy wings coming closer.
<OOC> Virton says, "Am I able of casting 1 / 2 spells?"
Nicolai looks from his glaive to Shagara, then says sheepishly, "Maybe you could have used this more than me." Then he looks around at the roar. "Well - maybe it's not too late." He holds out the glaive shaft-first, offering it to Shagara.
Shagara blinks at the glaive. "I have no idea how to use that." She says before looking towards the sound. "Lets go."
Lenore sticks with Shagara, ever-ready, rapier in hand.
Nicolai flips the weapon around so that he's holding it properly, then looks up to scan the skies. "So...does anyone know what those things even were?"

With the recent interruption in the fact that there's noise that sounds like it's something even more horrific heading their way, Virton's upper torso turns all the way around to face Lenore. He walks backwards to the woman, taking an aerosol-like can from his belt-pouch. He shakes said can before pushing on a button, sending a spray of magitechnical mana into the air around Lenore -- which rapidly hardens into an almost invisible shield of force around the woman.
"There y'go."

Nicolai tilts his head to one side, listening and trying to judge how far this newest menace might be. As Virton casts his spell, the giantborn grios the holy symbol he wears around his neck and calls for a wave if healing energy.
Shagara takes a moment to rub her arm.....and it thankfully heals under Nicolai. "Thank you. I think we're gonna need it."
There is another roar and A massive creature lands in front of you, it looks like the other ones you found but it huge.

"Have at ye!" The rapier is let loose once more, stabbing into the creature just about as soon as it lands. Lenore seems more than excited to get this on with, hopping from foot to foot as she prepares for what is likely about to be a clobber-fest.

With a blurt of static alarm, Virton's armour once again pulses with that soft orange glow of powering up. The Artificer, rather than using his cannon as per the norm, quickly moves forwards and pushes a single needle into Lenore's arm - which extends from his index finger. There's a soft 'sss' of pressure, and he jerks his hand out. The magictechnical needle crumbles afterwards, turning into ash. "Careful, partner."

Nicolai eyes the large creature and unleashes another wave of healing. Then he adjusts his grip on his glaive and dashes forward to attack it.

The giant winged creature looses a barage of attacks at Lenore again but misses, most almost hit.

"Son of a BITCH!" The usually good-natured Swashbuckler staggers back, scowling up at the giant thing, her jaw setting forward with no small measure of rage seething away in that fierce gaze. Lenore huffs as the healing energies wash over her from both sources, heaving out a bit of a breath in a snort before twisting in her stance to snap her sword upward and into the sternum of the creature, driving it home. "I don't care who it looks at! I'm gunna stab it til it dies from it!" She howls.

Virton's shoulder cannon blurts off another blast of red lightning that impacts into the giant stone being, leaving a black scorch mark on its form. "It's a toughie, partner. Ya best be keepin yersel' careful." The Golem begins its slow pacing, carefully gripping the cannon on his shoulder just to make sure he doesn't get horribly, horribly smushed.

Shagara runs her way towards the giant and makes sure to leap over it's hand before she attempts to cut with her sword. Unfortuantely, she hits with the flat of the blade, and it's not even a solid hit. Still...she's in range.

The giant lits into Lenore again, claw, claw and bite, this time the bite gets her really good as do the claws, dropping her.

Nicolai starts to circle around the giant figure, still slashing away at it. He can't seem to get through the thick hide. "I need to get a bigger glaive," he mumbles. Then he shouts out louder, "I think we've almost got him!" he calls out encouragingly.

Watching Lenore go down, Virton steps forwards and drags out another hypodermic needle from his forearm - which is promptly shoved into Lenore's back. A loud 'fft' of pressure, and the needle is thrown aside - where it rapidly disintegrates. "I didn't hear no bell, partner. Get up!" He buzzes.

Seeing Lenore go down, Shagara goes on the offensive. Unfortunately, only one attack hits, and.....it's a solid hit.
Lenore hits the ground, hard.
And then, moments later, she's kipping back up onto her feet. "Ohhh, ding ding, mothertrucker." She staggers in her place, turning her head to spit out a mouthful of blood, sheering up at the giant before lunging her blade up into it one more time, "Die!"
She pulls out her blade as it begins to fall, and stabs it multiple more times with the fury of a million burning suns, "Die die DIEDIEDIE!" She heaves a wheezing breath, staggering back and away from the thing, wiping her mouth with the back of her taloned glove, wincing as the metal tugs at a gash.
"Ha!" She snorts, "HAHAHA!" She forces, swinging a fist at nothing that nearly puts her off balance enough to have her flying back into the ground, pointing her blade at the fallen creature. "Last laugh. All mine."
This one explodes in a shower of rocks that pelt and hit you all. But there doesn't seem to be anything else moving now.
Nicolai stirs the pile with the end of his glaive. Then he gives a start. "Ah," he grasps his holy symbol and then gestures at Lenore. "I'd better, before an even bigger one shows up."
You manage to get healed up with spells and channels, and there doesn't seem to be anymore coming. With the death of the big one, the gates to the mine open and they come out, "I can't believe you destroyed the big one, it was that one that kept us inside." the Foreman, a dwarf said. He writes you a letter and gives it to you to give to the ones that hired you explaining things. They also give you a hot meal and a wagon ride back to Alexandria, it is really bumpy till you get to the pain road. You meet up with the guild and hand over the letter and get paid for a job well done.
