- Title: Wand-ering Thoughts
- Emitter: Slixvah
- Characters: Slixvah, Patch
- Place: Bardic College
- Time: September 7th, 2022
- Summary: Slix stops by Patch's dorm to show her how the bird makes wands. It's an interesting process, with lots of memorabilia involved as Slix's magic is esoteric in nature. They reaffirm some boundaries, and ensure that they are nothing but a boon to one another.
- Bardic College, Evening.
That damn rain finally stopped. And the sun was resting on it's western cusp when it did. The ground sopping wet, the streets full of puddles. Hence, the courtyard of the bardic college was finally filling out with folks trapped inside, them getting to night classes, auditions, as well as their dormitories for the eve.
One such figure was that of a beribboned egalrin woman partaking of the latter. A bag was in hand (she never carries a bag!), and her gaze was peering at the doors down the long hallway. "... hmm... last time we were in a bit of a hurry hurry...." she muses, relying on her memory. Slixvah passes one door. Stops. Then backs up. "I think... this is the one. Yeah."
>Knock knock knock<
"Heeeeeeeey Pattie!" she chirps through the door. "I brought fun stuff!" Pause. "Aside from me!"
It's just a beat after Slixvah finishes her words that the door swings inward on its own. It stops before striking the wall, the entryway at least cleaned more so than when the Egalrin was last here. "Come in!" calls Patch's voice along with the sounds of cloth, paper, and bottles being kicked under her bed a bit out of sight.
That's about where the Egalrin woman will find her, a boot scuffing a roll of clothes to be hidden from sight. A large smile flashed, trying to draw attention from her previous motions. Her room isn't a total mess, but the bed has been recently wrinkled, her half-dressed and disheveled stance showing she'd been likely napping before Slixvah came to call. " Sorry, Slix. The rain was a little much." she admits, having stripped her layers from earlier, being left only in a sleeveless blouse and pair of simple pants. "Was just taking a break."
Slix habitually cleanses her taloned feet with a simple cantrip before tip-clawing her way in. "Naw, I getcha, hon," she coos. "A lil' nappy nap sound just right afta all that." A wing shuts the door behind her as she finds a surface to gently set her bag down. It clanks softly of glass and wood inside. "Well don't you look cozy," the witch hums. "Want a snack?"
The egalrin does the unthinkable. She removes a robe! Two! Three! Four! Down to just a very loose shirt as she folds her robes away to take up less room in the dorm, her frame thin. She carries a lot of stuff in those pockets.
"Depends on the snack." Patch muses, tired eyes finally relenting as she stretches while the other woman disrobes. Arms over head, and a bend of the back. "I mean, you always looks scrumptious. More when you're unsure what to do." a moment taken to think. "Was real cute earlier, seeing you hold back in front of your feathery crush." she teases. "You can be forward with others before me, Slix. If I was holding you back... I'm secure in things." she tries to assure.
As Slixvah goes about setting things up, Patch raises a brow with piqued interest. Slixvah would of likely found the main table, that and Patch's desk being the most unused surfaces in her room. Though the desk is littered with notes and tomes she's bought from the Arcanist Society. "What do we have here?"
Patch's words are followed with a few steps, Patch coming up behind the Egalrin woman, and slipping arms under her wings, and about her waist, face pressing into the woman's back briefly with a hug. "You know, the layers add a lot to your shoulders. You feel small."
Slixvah laughs, pulling open her pack and taking out something wrapped. "Naw. The spirit is willing, but tha' body is weak," she mentions back, glancing over. Her face floofs a bit, and she holds out the snack. It's a banana nut muffin. "I... yeah uh, I haven't had a chance ta explain my sitch, ta him, ya dig? Wanted ta tease you too, but didn't wanna send mixed signals to the man."
Her tail uncovered now, it flicks side to side in a tempo as she's humming to herself. She peeks over a shoulder. "We have..." She pulls out a wooden box. "... wand making supplies~"
There's an elf hugging her around the waist. Slix is fluffy. Perhaps even smaller under all the feathers. There's a laugh, felt with Patch on her back as ribboned wings shift a bit to hug Patch, enveloping her. So warm. "I am rather small for my kin! Am the smallest outta my family," she chirps. "Tha's why I was so dead tired from the rain. I can't fly in that."
"Who would even want to?" Patch laughs, at the talk of flying and rain, giggling as she has to jump to kiss at Slixvah's cheek when the other woman glances back over a shoulder. It's a small peck, a smile wide on her lips. "Oh, yes. I got the 'small' one? I can't imagine the size of the rest of your family." she chimes about their difference in height, having leaned back into that feathery embrace before letting go.
"So, what kind of wand are you going to be making, Slix? Have one in mind, or..." Patch's words trailing off as she shifts topics, stepping to the side of the woman to better see as she places things.
The banana muffin is eyed, a smirk broadening as Patch takes it from the other woman's hand. "Yeah, don't sweat the small stuff. I'm not so vain that I'd need you to lavish me with attention. I feel adequately cared for, and I like seeing you all flustered with others. It's cute." a bite of the muffin taken.
Slix's peering eye blinks, then crinkles into a happy smile after the peck on the cheek, wings giving a tight hug before releasing Patch. "Ah. Yes. Dad is..." she looks up, beak trailing. Six feet and some inches. "... and my brother, Zanzi..." Higher. Six seven. "Bigg'uns."
"I dunno yet!" she grins, taking out a few more journals and- she skips the desk, hops up onto the bed, and scoots about. She pats the space in front of her after she sits. "Come come, I'm gonna show ya," she chirps, spreading out journals and opening the box. Inside is a a number of finely cut crystals, loose threads of gold and silver, unbelievably thin paper. A few feathers (hers), some animal talons (not hers). And more esoteric odds and ends. Her face fluffs a bit. "... I know, Pattie, which is why I'm really thankful fo' ya. Ya sweet. And cute. Had ta bite my tongue ta keep from commenting in tha shop," she snickers.
Patch is still chewing as she follows to the bed, sitting where beckoned with more than bit of interest. "So, you mentioned this line of work." shifting, and sitting with crossed legs to face her friend.
"You don't have to lavish the praise." A slight flush, and a droop of ear following her words. "Ya might go making me think I was special, and then we'd have a problem." a tease to her tone, following it with a wink.
"I can guess what some of these are, but I assume you require the reagents for the spell, and materials to house them?" Patch asks about the basics as she lets green eyes peer over the goods laid out before her, smirking at the small collection.
Slixvah bobs her head. "Yep yep. I can't be a wizard, so, I stole a wizard's practice so I can feel like a wizard," she grins.
Her face floofs some. "... wasn't gonna, honest. We was just talkin' bodies up there and I was lookin' is all." She shifts some of her equipment around. A glance to catch the wink. "Not respectfully," she teases back with a giggle.
She shakes her head, clears her mind, and clasps her hands together. "Okay! So, what I figured out is that wands are heckin' complicated. You are very, very right, missy," she croons. "So, with /my/ magic, I have ta have things tha' are sorta related to tha magic I'm puttin' in."
She picks up a piece of thin paper, and a feather. "Take this. I wanna use a spell ta protect me. Wizard's terms, Mage Armor. I toughen my feathers when I cast it. So, if I use this ta pretend ta cast it into a teeeeeeny tiny scroll." The flicks the paper. "Wrap it around a crystal ta stabilize it. Then use tha gold thread ta make a helix of that repeated process..."
She lines up bunch of cystals, then puts the threads beside the line of them. "Resonates. Say the word and... poof... magic!"
Patch has reconnected.
Patch has partially disconnected.
Patch nods slowly to Slixvah's explanation, the process listened too, and the work of hands and materials watched closely. "Okay, I think I somewhat get it." her eyes coming up with to glance at Slix. "It's a lot like imbuing a magic item in theory, but this doesn't create a lasting effect. We're creating items of a limited duration, and use... like Magus Mikilos spoke of earlier." she mentions. "Though I don't see the shame in such a thing. Not all creations are meant to last forever." she reasons aloud.
"I just don't know what kind of such magics and skills I want to work towards." Patch openly admits, furrowing her brow. "Everyone has their opinions I guess."
Sky blues glance to dull greens. "It is imbuing magic, yes. And the effect /does/ last. Just... instead of lettin' it soak in the ambient magic ta restore itself, you're simplifying it ta make it do /one/ thing and one thing only. Cast one spell. Gold star for you!" she coos. Then huffs. "He's just forgotten what it's like ta be limited by what ya can do. If I can have a few wands of spells I kno' is useful but is way to situational, that's mo mojo I can set aside for /real/ things. Like healing someone or shutting a caster up."
A wing stretches out and over to rub Patch's back. "And that's completely valid, honey. That answer may take time for you to figure out. And that's okay. You'll grow inta whatever beautiful masterpiece ya end up putting ya mind towards," she softly hums in support.
"Vaire, you hear this? Beautiful masterpiece." Patch muses, a flush darkening her cheeks, and causing her mark to turn a purplish hue. <Sylvan>
"Honestly, Slix... that's perhaps the sweetest things you've said to me." Patch's eyes only glancing away once she grows a tad flustered. "Well, one of them."
That touch of wing, and rub of Patch's back help her cheeks burn a bit less, but her glance does rise again to peer, and search over the other woman's features. "You have the right of it. It's a valuable tool. I've cursed myself many times for not having potions, or a wand. I've relied too heavily on just my own magics. Got burnt, learned that lesson."
It's clear Slix didn't understand Patch's mother tongue, but her face floofs up somewhat. "You're very welcome, Patch," she softly coos, reaching over to stroke the marked cheek with a back of the hand. "I just wanna make ya feel like you're the best you you can be."
Gentle support deployed, Slix pulls back arm and wing to lean back somewhat. Feathers animate, carefully picking up supplies to put hem in their respective places in the box. "Got burnt?" she raises brow. "That when ya arm was messed? If ya got a wand ya want, I think some our mojo's overlap. Can even cut ya a slick deal..." she offers.
"Well, figuratively burnt. That injury was more the elemental beating me into the forest floor, but... yeah." Patch muses, laughing at Slixvah with a nod. "You make me feel plenty wonderful, Slix. I thought that was known." leaning into that touch of hand, and gentle caress as she speaks.
"Sorry about the fairy-talk. I was... it's just me conversing with Vaire. I swear I only told her good things." Patch's tone coy, a smile broadening as she watches those feathers and hands work and place things away. She shifts to lay across the bed, a quick motion, head resting near Slix and her work, looking up at the Egalrin woman when done. "You make me very happy, so much that I find myself worrying about silly things." a wink cast.
Slix smiles with her eyes. "It is known. And I'm glad I can make ya feel all cozy! I feel cozy too wit'cha."
Her face floofs up some. "Fairy... oh, duh!" she smacks her face. "Brain was on wands, didn't think o' that. I speak dat! But tha's good" The feathers work do their work. One pair pulling Patch closer so she could rest on a fluffy leg. Slix looks down. Her face is warm, but her curiosity is piqued. "... silly things? I-" brain catches up. "Ah. I... apologize."
"Everyone gives you gifts and ribbons, and..." Patch easily pulled into that lap, head resting on fluff and leg with a smirk. "I often wonder if I should compete? I haven't yet found a trinket that made me think of you. I more see you as my trinket." Patch says, face contorting in thought. "That came out wrong."
"Please don't apologize. You have never once done a thing to warrant such words from your beak." Patch says, hand rising to caress the fluffed feathers of those cheeks, smiling broader. "I often wait till I find things that have some personal meaning. Like your last gift. It's in the lining of my coat. I keep it close." speaking of the feather that was mended with a grin.
The animated feathers pack everything away into the bag, them reaching across the room to set it aside the robes while Slix focuses on Patch. She blinks. Then laughs heartily. "I'm your trinket? I could be a little gobbo and dangle from your neck? Or I could drape myself over you?" she teases, not taking the notion in the wrong way in the slightest.
She reaches down, smoothing out Patch's hair as a hum vibrates in her throat as she nestles into the hand on her face. "Egalrin sometimes collect things that remind them of certain times. My fam was no different. The house was cluttered with knick knacks. I know how important memories are in things. And it means a lot fo' ya ta still have that feather. I might have mo' fo' ya in time. And you'll find a trinket you'd think would be perfect fo' me. If ya stuck, I /always/ accept ribbons~!" she chirps warmly.
Patch strokes her thumb across Slixvah's cheek feathers with a nod before letting her hand drop away from the Egalrin's face. "That's good to know." she muses about ribbons. "I'm not too good with certain parts of dating, and the last thing I'd wish is for you to feel neglected."
Sitting up, Patch looks to Slixvah, nestling closer as she eases her form against one of the Egalrin woman's arm. "You are my trinket." the good natured teasing seized upon. "The woman I like to dote on, and show off to others. You're special." a firm nod following her words. "You can do whatever to me with those feathers, Luv. You joke about their touch, but I don't. It's very nice."
Slixvah's eyes close, her head lulling down until her forehead is against Patch's. "I can do datin', but it ain't my thing. I don't, however, feel neglected at all wit'cha," she croons.
The elf sits up, and Slix sits up somewhat, eyes half lidded in a relaxed manner. Arms wrap around Patch. Her face fluffs up again. "I'm special."
A warm, content sigh leaves her, and feathers pull Patch up and onto her lap, wings wrap around the other, and her eyes close. Big ol' warm, soft pile. "That's... reassuring to hear, sugar. How's 'bout we sleep then? Exhaustin' march from mountain ta here. And you're mighty comfy."
"Well dating is what I called it, yes. I can't yet rationalize it as something else." Patch says in a blunt, but bemused tone. She's soon shifting and helping the woman position her in lap with a grin. After she takes a moment to kick off her boots. "We're close, and we do date-like things. Don't get hung up on the words." another laugh and wide smile as she leans back into Slixvah's chest with a nuzzle of cheek to feather. "It's more about the feelings, and closeness."
"I could sleep, and would like that." Patch's tone quieter, smiling with a light breath as she lets eyes fall closed. "I am fond of you, Bird." she mutters in play. "Thank you for letting me express it."
Slix murmurs back warmly. "Don't get hung up on the words," she echoes back the wisdom, nodding. Her eyes drift close. "I am fond of you too, Patty," she chuckles soft. "And you are very, very... welcome."
She twitters soft, "Sleep well, Wayward Muse," <Auran>
